1993 Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8 LS no Mot. Project Free to good Home!

Now Re Edited.

I'm sadly selling my Cavalier of 8 years for FREE in the hope that someone can give it a new lease of life that I'm clearly not going to do anytime soon with the lack of cash flow etc.

It's a 1993 L reg 1.8i LS hatch that's been standing a year since it failed its last Mot though it still started regular and runs / drives fine plus I'm still paying insurance on it! It needs a new driver side sill [supplied] and repairs to the rear inner sill / floor around the rear beam support and drivers side front inner wing area and floor.

The rear brake pipes need replacing and it needs a new Lamba sensor [ I think ] to pass the emissons test too.

The rear arches could do with attention too but again I can supply the panels with the car but aren't needed for the Mot.

Car done a 194,000 miles but been serviced regular including a Cambelt, tensioner, water pump about 2 a half years ago.

Also currently leaking oil from the sump gasket.

I have a fair few bits and pieces that won't be available with the car as is but can supply them for a small cost if interested.

I'd love to get this car back on the road but I have to be realistic about my current situation. With it being left standing outside doing it no favours it's upsetting me to see it deteriorating and not being able to sort it out like I'd want to.

So if anybody fancies a project car and can give it a good home then I'm now offering it for free, it's more about giving the car a second chance than the cash.

Please note for free it won't come with the Battery as that cost me £50 just a tired one off one of my dads Vans so it can be moved / driven or the Stereo as it was a gift plus the wheel trims shown as they were fitted after it came off the road and cost £40.

I'm only offering it for free on AS to someone who had more than a handful of post etc on here then after that it may have to go on ebay sadly.

If you want to ask me anything then please just fire away I'm sure there things I've forgot or hadn't thought to mention.

Car paperwork i.e V5 is all present in my name and ready to be filled in by a buyer.

I have much love for Cavs, but I need to get rid of vehicles this year rather than acquire more.

GLWTS though.

Thanks, it's the same position here we sold our MK2 Fiat Uno at the start of year not because we wanted too. More the fact we weren't using it as much as we like, plus there the question of where to put it due to the lack of avaliable parking space. Everywhere to keep our cars is at breaking point now and I don't have anywhere to keep the Cavalier dry stored or the funds either to pay for it at the moment so I'd rather try and sell it than see it sit there deteriorating.

Just thought I'd bump this up as I said I'm open to offers, try me! Will prob put this up on Retro Rides and Car and Classic soon as well.

I'll be honest as much as I love Cavaliers, you'll be hard pushed to get any cash for it. No MOT will usually mean scrap money so £30-40. Ebay might be your best bet if you can find someone looking for a Cavalier who might give you a bit for it. It would be great to see it put on the road but people shopping for 'old bangers' tend to want some test on it particularly when you can get something with some Test on it for £150-200

I appreciate what you saying I know it not easy to sell a car without a Mot with current scrap prices etc as I said was open to offers on it and would rather let someone have it for free if they put it back on the road than it sit there going to waste.

Had been thinking about Ebay but tbh they mugged me over at xmas thanks to some lying robbing knuckle dragger so I've been avoiding there services of late.

Had put it on RR but hadn't had any interest either so maybe I'll have to do battle with the enemy and list it on Ebay as you say might be my best option if not it can stay where it is much to my family's joy no doubt.

Right possibly getting another car shortly that would be too cheap to pass on so offering my Cavalier on here for free, see re edited post to a good home hopefully if someone can collect it.

Any questions just ask.

Right one last bump up for the Cav this weekend or otherwise it just have to sit where it is which is a pity because I have no idea when I'll ever get it sorted!

You clearly love it too much to scrap it or let it crumble into the ground. If it's not doing any harm where it is, let it wait, and eventually either you'll develop the skills to sort it yourself, or save a hundred or two to pay someone to do it for you.

Harsh that it's going for free. Shame, what are you getting in its place? Can any of the Midlandz Massiv help you with storage of Cav. I know I can sort a garage out and get it there if needs be, I may be in receipt of trade plates soon so can get it moved too.

No, I don't want the Cav for myself, I have far too many cars on right now. Cavcraft?

Thanks Mo, I'm just at a loss as what to do if I had the money to fix it then it would have been fixed by now, just with money being so tight it just isn't possible anytime soon.

It just getting me down seeing the Car sitting there week after week when it should be on the road

Was looking at a Fiat Marea 1.6 saloon as it would be a cheaper option at the moment than getting the Cavalier fixed, but thinking about it tonight I can't really because I've got no more space for another car. Then the Cavalier would just have to go and I can't bring myself to do anything harsh like scrap it etc after having it nearly 8 years, I've built up a lot of good times with this car as well as seeing me through the bad.

Plus although it not sometimes ideal I've got the Fiorino van to use and access to the Fiats and the Merde wagon from my brother if I'm stuck just miss having my own car to drive.

Appreciate the mention of the storage and movement if needs be if I get really stuck. The trade plates are a result Mo is that something your doing yourself or for someone else?

Thank's yeah I do love my Cavalier, just don't want to be one of those people who in ten years time is still saying this time next year I'll get it fixed etc. My dads been really good about it been stuck on his drive despite some of his neighbours turning there noses up about it and his busy driveway full of vans!

Am tempted to take some crappy extra work or temporary shift work etc to try and get it sorted if nobody wants it and as you say maybe slowly get it fixed over time. Al Bundy on here quoted me a reasonable figure to get the welding side sorted which is the biggest headache to overcome for me after that the garage my brother uses who is pretty fair can tackle the brake pipes and Lamba sensor.

Though if someone fancies a little project that will make a good daily when done and can weld then look no further.   :-)

Come on, do this.

It's remarkable how much otherwise soul-destroying work a person can do if you've actually got a reason to; if you have a goal to hit.

Why not aim to have it on the road for Shitefest at the end of June? That's an achievable goal, isn't it?

Just imagine how you'd feel having managed that!

Get on with it lad, evenings are warmer and brighter for outdoors fettling, it'll be great!

Update us on here with pictures of daily/weekly progress, there'll be help, encouragement and advice if you need it.

Thank's KruJoe. :-)

If I don't get any interest in the meantime then as you say I'll do my best to get some more work and hopefully have the funds to get it back on the road.

Not sure if it be done in time for Shitefest mind you as got a few things to sort out [Pay Off] first before I can start on the car, thought as you say if I have a reasonable goal / deadline in mind then gives me something to aim for.

I'll definitely update AS with any progress etc on the Cav if I do.

Cheers.
