I know you're not into spotting threads as a rule DW but I've spotted a few Japanese cars over here in NZ, as would be expected and I tend to impose a mid-1980's cut-off for spots, since most stuff beyond this era is still quite commonplace. Would you be interested in content (either spotted or written articles) from outside the UK/Europe? The market here is quite interesting, since there's such an emphasis on Japanese imports.

Hi Jon. Definitely interested. You must get all sorts of oddballs over there that haven't made their way to Blighty.

Like you wouldn't believe! take a look at http://trademe.co.nz/motors for an idea of what plies the streets day to day. Japanese cars are a big enthusiast market here, though mostly performance orientated models, as is usually the case. However, with there being more models available from the 1960's onwards, the heritage is more celebrated; I've never heard a bad word about a Datsun 120y for instance but then I suppose they weren't seen as such a threat to local industry, since almost all cars manufactured in NZ were CKDs and from numerous manufacturers, not just the British.

Here's a couple of worthy candidates for spots (dead and alive):

Brilliant. Love the motorhome. Could you drop me an email?

Cheers.

I really like 70s Japanese motors, probably because my automotive knowledge and appreciation began to form during that decade.  They would battle on with advanced and very obvious body corrosion, yet mechanically would still be as sweet as the day they drove off the boat.

A mate had a 140J Violet with huge holes in both front wings...

1982 Mazda 626 RWD Coupe (Montrose shape). Not mint but rare and looks OK if photographed from the right angles.  Was in storage for 25 years.  You can borrow it for the last 2 weeks in June as I'll be in Africa. It's in Fleet, Hampshire but I'll meet you halfway if you have something else I can drive home.  Swap keys and drive back.

Thanks. Kind offer, but I've nowt I can live without at the moment, and it's a seriously busy time of the year. I am due to be in the Southampton area for a photoshoot at some point over the summer though.

What have Chevettes got to do with this?

Very little other than the upper links. These are Piazzas, kid.

I would like to know more about all of these lovely* cars. Too late for this issue (spots still welcome, but I'm chock full of 'owner' stuff for this one) but I'll gladly take stuff for the next one.

im happy to let you know more about these lovely* motors, they are all everday cars so nowhere near mint as i dont play into that, as long as they dont get worse.

I am involved with the next issue.

Bet you're all thrilled.

I'm not generally a fan of Japanese cars, but along with the RX7, I have long found the Piazza peculiarly intriguing.

Does it have a varied selection of cars

I'd say so. Beige Nissan Sunny estates to Hakosukas, Delicas to Evos and VTEC KICKED IN YO. Plus a lot of other stuff.

Hope I can find a copy. I enjoyed Cherman classics.

WH Smith seem to be good at stocking the titles. Saw Classic Jaguar in one the other day. I don't often get to visit WH Smiths stores anywhere other than Aberystwyth, where they still have Retro Japanese 1. Which went off sale in March...

Smiths in Stafford still had RJ1 last week...
