I’ve come across this old photo of a right-hand drive Volga M21 that I’m overseeing the restoration of...

It appears to be on a location shoot somewhere for something. I’d love to know where and for what. If anyone has an clues, leads or revelations, they’d be very gratefully received.

The Volga looked like this when I bought it…

…so the shoot was clearly some time ago. It’s a 1963 car.

Didn't wear whitewalls in this shot though

Perhaps one of the Harry Palmer fillums?

I'd never noticed that it was a UK-spec M21 in Casino Royale. I'll truffle out the DVD this evening.

The chances of it being my car are slim, though. There were a few black UK-spec M21s washing around in the late 1960s. The shoot pictured is definitely not Casino Royale... in addition to the whitewalls, note the the wing-mirror and additional front indicators.

I'm pretty sure there are no right-hookers in The Ipcress File, Funeral In Berlin or Billion Dollar Brain. Not sure about the subsequent TV movies, though...

Imcdb isn't coming up with anything either....Wonder if somebody could tell from the equipment on view whether its likely to be a film set or a photo shoot?

Am thinking Harry Palmer. Particularly Funeral in Berlin although can't be sure.

It's on Netflix btw....

There's a Finnish film called 'Hold onto your scarf Tatiana' that features one of these.

If the photo hasn't been cropped then I would suspect that it was taken with a 126 format camera. Could be medium format of course but I think people would have been too busy on a film set to be faffing about carrying a medium format camera around. Kodak stopped making the popular Instamatic cameras in the 80's and I think by that point 35mm was pretty much standard so I wouldn't date the photo to me much older than the mid or early 1980's.

Is anybody able to work out the logo on the box at the bottom of the picture?? Also that canopy edge at the top looks like it's railway related to me...

The logo on the box looks like JBL ( the speaker manufacturer).

reasonable guess. However it doesn't help with dating at all.

Music video perhaps, if there's speakers?
