This one is a keeper for him.

Igave him a stack of spares I will imagine may preclude euros trips

It would make a lovely parts hauler for all the stuff he needs to buy from ECP for his down the pub bargains.

Njgleeds was kind enough to offer his ramp for a spot of Starlet fettling

The rear brakes had been making strange noises.

Up in the air

Opened up the drums and clouds of brake dust flew out

A good douse in cleaner and compared to the new shoes, they look in good condition. So they got put back to get get.

Next up was trying to fit gen7 celica seats which interweb says were straight swap.

So as mentioned elsewhere, my commute this morning involved this

beb682f18a0debdc020f4e30ecdf3773.jpg

What a clock. And you get to sit in Caramel loveliness whilst doing it.

Current car challenges

Tpms sensors on two wheels dont work

Washer bottle keeps giving low washer fluid warning

Reversing sensors don't work

Speech synth does speak or beep

Drivers and passengers windows go down in small sections

Radio display was wonky this morning but had cheered up by end of the day

Clutch release bearing rattle at idle

But what a clock

I can give you some pointers here...

One of the tyre pressure sensors is completely missing - it's the one with the longer valve. You have the choice of either someone with a CLIP system disabling the system altogether or obtaining a new one and getting said person to pair it and the other unrecognised one on the rear. There's a bloke in Leek who knows all about this and has CLIP. Adrian Wilson. Renner independent.

Apparently the n/s parking sensor is exposed to the worst of the wheel arch environment. Cleaning the rear of the sensor/repairing any wiring fault might sort it

When the display says 'Speak' it should be using one of the voice files from its extensive* library. When I reset the CD player I opted not to install the voice files for personal reasons . You should find them on the CD with the books.

I tried all the reset procedures for Renners that I could find on t'interweb, including all the half arsed, badly filmed YouTube 'guides', but again for personal reasons I had to give up . The drivers door mech has received lubrication and silicon lub on the rubber, to no effect. I bet application of a CLIP system is all that is required.

Never had the radio display do that for long enough to start tracking down the cause. Except French/shared with Laguna 2 etc.

And as for the clutch release bearing, this is one thing I properly regret not sorting. To this end, if a diy resolution is sought, I will gladly offer time/premises/tools/hamfisted assistance. I would really like this car to sit idling as quietly as I know it should...

I have a spreadsheet with all the detail of my work on it if you let me know where to send it.

And, in case Neil didn't mention it, I have the Renault Dialogys workshop manual/parts catalog system on VM, copies of which you are welcome to, but you need about 26GB of disk space for the both of them

I've been out of the loop for a while, have you gone and bought that?

If so, the questions are; when is it being tracked? When is it going down the drag strip? When is it autotesting?

Also, are the dogs allowed in it?

Also also, nice clock.

Better move the cones apart a bit if that's going around Blackburn services....

I think a photo of a Vel Satis having an FTP under the start/finish straight bridge at Knockhill would be calendar material.

Yes I have.

I obviously haven't thought about tracking it or drag strip !

I can't imagine it would work in an autotest.

Dogs can do whatever they want... You know that

And yes ... Smashing clock

How about a FTS outside lidl?

At first I thought the car loved me and was winking at me... But no

Handbrakes are for losers right kids???

P.s. anyone know what is likely to have gone wrong?

From the raffle thread re the car, was there not a history of this being repaired?

ie a hole cut in the boot, so that access can be made to the mechanism. (Goes off to check)

Hopefully whatever it is, is an easy fix.

I guess first thing I'd look at would be if it's pulling on at both rear wheels. Offside has had the new cable iirc - the original had got rusty and the inner seized in the outer - this had either resulted in it disconnecting itself at the control box-end or the person with the can opener left it disconnected.

I thought I had a bearing noise at the back but I now deduce that perhaps it is handbrake related

I am going to ignore it for a bit and just leave it parked in gear.

Ordered a Clip with laptop which should be delivered on Monday.

Also ordered a reversing sensor to see if 1 will fix it - he says massively optimistically.

On the flip side there is a massive Renault breakers in Accrington.

So perhaps I just need to drive it down there and show it what happens to naughty cars

Ooh! Your own CLIP! This sounds like commitment. To be fair, the brakes sounded terrible after I had it laid up for the parking brake cable, and I was surprised the only advisory was for the state of the discs. Had they quietened down before the rumble started?

clip plus laptop is £300 plus comes with software for other cars. So a fair outlay but I asked as local Renault botherers wanted £90 to read codes and then turn sensors off, it doesn't seem too bad.

Brakes are fairly quiet, fronts are a little warped but will add that to the list of things to do.

Missus Moog likes it so it is easier to spend the money on it

Definitely would benefit from being big engined auto.

And I might be tempted with a knockhill session in it

Just checked prices for brake discs - £120 for fronts and £120 each for rears... Not going to be champagne car for lemonade money
