TheScrapman Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Someone's pride and joy, no doubt. SL, do you know this car? It was really clean too. Brainless lowlifes need to be hung. It made me boil. That's the second time I've driven past to see a stolen car buckled up on that KA's front bumper.
AnthonyG Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Very sad .Old cars need a lot of security, far more than a modern. A complete shield for the steering wheel is an absolute must to deter lowlifes.
retrogeezer Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 What a shame...little bastards don't have the brains they are born with.
BrianDamaged Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Sights like this just make my brain boil. What a tragedy.
reallyloud Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 The car is well know known within Datsun OC circles, it belongs to Deb Murray. Seen at the Retro car show a few years back. I can't really add much that would be a comfort to the owner, I hope the police chase this one up and take appropriate action. But sometimes you really have to take actions into your hands. Scrapman, I've taken the liberty in posting these on the Datsun Owners club forum (datman.co.uk) in the hope some might be able to sort the car out/ help fix/ do something constructive. Cheers!
Torsten2001 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 That has seriously pissed on my Frosties! What a dreadfull waste. Alas you can be pretty sure the nasty little baseball cap wearing cnuts have got away with it and there will be little hope of anything except the car being written off. I can only pray that that will never happen to me and I know it's only a small thing but I disconnect the batteries on mine just in case.

Cheers!I had a horrible feeling it belonged to Deb. My mate Nick did quite a lot of work on it last year. Gutted for her.
OwdChina Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 :(Panel damage, some glass and quite a bit of work. Someone needs to get it shifted, hidden or whatever before Churchill & co come over and write it off.Kev.
FredTransit Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 That is sick. I don't like the way the wings seem to be pushed back, and the arse end being tucked in. I fear that would be a financial right off, maybe best not to claim, I wouldn't if it were me.
Mash Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Oh, that's heartbreaking. Little bastards. Something like this gets me more riled up than almost any other form of crime because it's just so pointless and mindless. Hope something of it can be salvaged. Wonder if she has agreed value?
trigger Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Glue sniffed Scum. Should bring hanging back, Or just cut of there hands, One day i hope someone steals there pride and joy so they know how it feels.
Mr Lobster Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Horrible. Really unneccesary and sickening. The owner must be absolutely gutted.
Spottedlaurel Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Very sad. I’m a bit late and only just catching up with this news. Deb is aware and posted this info about it on the Datsun forum...“mine was stolen from outside my flat some time last night, reported being driven into a car in a nearby pub car park at 4:10 this morning. police knocked on the door just as I was about to leave for work to inform me, when I ran up the path I was greeted by smashed glass and bits of broken door trim. after spending over half an hour on the phone to my insurance company (my details weren't in their system despite just renewing, being put on hold with various different departments) the police called back to say they'd found it, just up the road from the pub. so, I cycled over to have a look at the damage. feeling pretty gutted, they did a thorough job: drove forwards into various objects, including the Ka it was still embedded in, front end completely smashed including the new radiator; reversed repeatedly into something so the back end is the same: the car is now several inches shorter than it used to be. all windows smashed, all lights and mirrors smashed, all knobs taken off radio, cigarette lighter and ashtray removed, glovebox smashed, locks broken, drivers door hanging off, etc etc. the only bits left untouched are the roof and the rear windscreen - maybe they got interrupted and couldn't finish the job... poor things, how frustrating for them. police are recovering and taking it away to do their forensics stuff on it, insurance are calling me back. can't see that it can be sorted, so will probably be listing any salveagable parts on here soon: seats, carpets, alloys, etc. gutted.â€Â
AnthonyG Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Don't take this comment the wrong way anyone, but that Ka seems to have taken the impact well considering the damage to the Datsun. Just mildly surprised - obviously they are tougher than they look and feel.Back on subject - scrotes/scumbags seem to take particular delight in destroying anything 'different' - a very sad reflection on todays society.
FredTransit Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I wouldn't give up, despite the damage. Never let the insurance have it, you won't see any of it again if you do, even if you only want to salvage bits. If it was a transit I could help with anything from chassis and body parts to trim tight now, and would too. IF this was in any way personal (I mean even if they didn't know the owner, it's an old/classic/jap/blue car) the best way to hit back is to completely restore it.
Guest Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Gutting, hope they get them but I hold out little hope. The damage looks so deliberate too, at least they were thick enough not to burn it out so it will have DNA all over the place and there'll be stuff to salvage. If it helps, I know someone who has one of these which they have said they may sell and I don't think they would want an absolute fortune for it. It's nowhere near as tidy as this was formerly and is currently SORN, but it would be a good base for restoring this one via a reshell - it is complete and drives etc. though I imagine it will need a bit of welding around the bottom - I've only seen it in the dark and on some small pics. If they want me to get more details or a contact number give me a shout.Could someone pass this onto the Datsun lot? I can't seem to register on their forum.
Guest Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Gutted for you. They should be tied down and shat on.
AnthonyG Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I wouldn't give up, despite the damage. Never let the insurance have it, you won't see any of it again if you do, even if you only want to salvage bits. It depends on the policy, whether it was classic and whether it had a salvage clause. I do agree with you in general though, once it gets in a compound/yard it can be bloody impossible to get it out again, even with a signed up salvage clause.Places like G W Bridges in Pease Pottage have hundreds, possibly a couple of thousand, damaged cars at any one time, an individual vehicle can easily get lost in the system.
FredTransit Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Insurance is insurance, you can be paid out less the salvage, the car is still yours. Had a Mk2 transit luton nearly go in an underbonnet fire, the insurance kep offering to 'store' it for us. As it was still taxed and tested, we kept it on the street near our house. The loss adjuster that came to see it couldn't find a pre accident example in the same comparative condition. She's parked up the road as we speak, taxed tested and obviously repaired.
RedSparrow Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Thats really nasty malicious stuff.Really sorry, what a waste.I don't know what Id do if it happened to me.I am tempted to say they were regular joyriders (so probably known) who fancied something a little more exotic to trash. Cut their balls off.
scruff Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Gutted for her - little shits Big steering locks and hidden from view at night for us.
Negative Creep Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 They ought to cut the perpetrator's hands off. Although even if they are caught they'll get nothing more than a small fine
