Talk to me about Rover 75s

Lovely things. 2.5 auto is the nuts. I want one in light metallic blue, light metallic green or white.

Another ZT V8 owner on Autoshite... Who'd of thought!

I agree with you, even though I've never had any of the others... Mine is currently in a dry garage after the ecu having a swim & the wipers doing their own thing & door locks not working!

Mine's the Rover version with the autobox. I'd like to compare it to an MG ZT260 though.

Ha, I'm not in love with it enough to take photos yet. It's been one problem after another, maybe I'll feel better when I get the misfire fixed and stop the LPG system leaking.

welcome to rover ownership....

when they are on song, these cars are brilliant, but, when they are bad, they are a right royal PITA

and they don't fuck up all the time (honest)

So just as I thought a 2.5 auto sounds like the one for me. :)

there have been times when i've wondered about choppin' it in against something, but other than another big jag, i cannot think of anything else going that is drive as nice as this does.

now that has to be cheap..... and it has the neptune blue trim that is the same as in my car,

though it didn't leave Longbridge with leather seats!!

I posted this on the eBay thread but it's still for sale. Needs the heater looking at though.

What on earth is wrong with you? I'd have a snap of that in my wallet or something to get out and horn over whenever I'm not next to it reattaching bits of broken trim or whatever.

Misfire - Have you tried a new fuel pump, seems to be troublesome on the 4.6 Mustang V8 from speaking to other V8 owners

Decided to get mine out tonight and going to have a run out to Work in Wigan in it tomorrow, do love the sound of it!

Do it. As said before, get an early one. I've owned and worked on both and the 75 was better than the ZT in every single way, even with the extra 80,000 on the clock!

I love them so much I bought one that should really have been scrapped and spent way too much fixing it up to sell at a sizeable loss.

They're like women, find a good one and it'll be pure bliss with no trouble.

A bad one will hurt your wallet and leave you feeling jaded and bitter.

I really like those wheels.

Don't let my whinging about my grey one in this thread put you off, a 2.5 auto with a good spec is a fantastic car. Even my GF likes to drive my 2.5, and the computer says mid-30s MPG after she's driven it for a while.

The curved rear window always makes you think you're closer to the wall than you actually are, but other than that they're very easy to park and get around tight spaces

This is a very good analogy. I'm on my 4th 75 now. The first one was a 52 reg 1.8 club that I bought on a whim because I was desperate to own a 75 - this car was a complete headache and I ended up scrapping it.

The next one was an 'accidental' ebay win for £575. Next to no description on the listing it was a Classic SE spec and 2.0v6. When I turned up to collect it matey boy handed me a wadge of paperwork which showed the clutch, slave, master, brakes and cambelts had all been done recently at a cost of almost £1250. I then took that car on a 3000 mile roadtrip through France and it didn't miss a beat. It was lovely.

I then swapped that (plus some cash my way) for a 300,000 mile diesel one as I needed to keep costs to a minimum when I relocated dahn sarf. It drove ok, plenty of play in the gearstick travel though. Kept it for 6 months, didn't service it but it did exactly what was needed. It was tatty bodywork wise, had rattly droplinks, needed suspension bushes, and the exhaust almost fell off which a bit of string sorted out. I didn't see any point putting any money into that car as it was past its best and I'd never really love it.

Then I bought my current one. It's a diesel Connoisseur SE Auto which popped up on auto trader in Leighton Buzzard. Bought with 50k miles on it a year ago. It is lovely. Although since being pressed into daily commuting use has had some money chucked at it to the tune of £1000 since I bought it. Most of that is tyres and suspension bits but also includes a service and autobox service. Still more I want to spend on it to get it perfect, but it aint bad at all!

Like any old car if you look after it, it'll look after you. Unless you buy a 1.8 in which case it'll just kettle at you. The best reason for owning a 75, though, is the interior. They are wonderful. Wonderfuly wonderful. There is no better interior in the world ever. This is mine:

Unbelievably good looking, what a crime we no longer can get an interior like this as these 75's die off :-(

I think the plainer interiors look lovely - there's been a few on here recently with the two tone leather though and that must be an acquired taste as it all looks a little bit too much to me.

The exteriors though still make me think low-rent part-exchanges stuck on a bit of wasteland with a hand-written price in the window, a flat tyre and moss around the window rubbers. I just can't picture them as an executive motor, there's something wrong about them.

Still, it's better than a 600. They look terrible.

Hypothetically* is it worth buying an otherwise good condition car in the spec you want with possible HGF for (say) a couple of hundred and fixing it up?

I've thought long and hard about the Facebook car above but to be honest I just don't have the time or money to travel that far right now for a £300 snotter. Just gonna hold off for a local car on this one as it's not like they're rare or particularly expensive right now!

The fact it is stuck in 2nd could make the 150 mile trip home interesting*!

if it was a 1.8 or 1.8t then possibly but the v6 is a mare to work on. I imagine garage bills would out weigh the worth with in the first 2 hours. There places kippered-k-series-r-us places out there who do fixed priced k-series hg repair work for around 300 quid.

You'd probably want to do the timing belt and water pump while in there though.

The problem is you don't know how much it's been driven with the hg blown or if it's been cooked. If it was a nice car it'd probably be worth it.
