Cortina fans help needed....daft old romantic content

Attatched is a period shot of my late fathers 1965 Mark 1 Cortina 1200 delux, DHJ458C, I am the smallest scamp in the back seat aged 4.

Where as I am a hopeless horder of classic tin, owning the best part of 200 cars over a 40 year period, dad only ever had 2 cars.

This was bought new from Perrys in Southend, with its predecessor,a white 100E Pop traded against it.

He lovingly looked after it until his passing 10 years latter, my brother then took it over, selling to a friend after a couple of years.

I managed to track it down and buy it back in the 80's, but accepting that restoration was beyond me, sold it to a club member to rescue.

Dvla tells me its been painted Orange and is still on the road, taxed but not MOT'd.

I now have the resources to restore it and would love more anything to have it back, it feels like a lost family member.

Anybody know anybody who might be able to help.

Bonus vast French tat sale to fund the resto if I did ever manage to get it back!

I can't be any practical help I'm afraid, but Good Luck!  What a quest, and what a bloody good idea.

A hot lead in less than three hours ...Nobody rubbish the internet again!

Love stories like this, good luck with your quest.   Much as I appreciate altered stuff it would be great to see this looking like the first pic again.

Excllent to see it might have survived, albeit a bit 'tweaked'

Yes I fear the only thing left original may be the reg number!  A lovely challenge though to return it to what it looked like in the first pic.

Asking on the MK1 Cortina owners club Facebook page may prove helpful, if you are on Facebook.

There's a forum on the website but I think you need to be a paid member and barely anyone uses it anyway.

This. I guess the key thing will be price/value, assuming the current owner is even interested in selling. It's a classic Ford, so I assume worth solid money if in decent nick. Much like Carlo, I reckon it deserves to go back to standard looking, body wise at least, rather than the current, same old, sheep style exterior that every other classic Ford wears. There's a great thread on VZI where a lad tracked down his fathers original 60's bug, completely restored it himself, then used it at his wedding. I love stories like this - good luck with the search.

My dad used to have a blue 120Y. It was a real peach, was a sad day when it got sold.

Luckily after a bit of a search I was able to find it again

All my dad's cars are Chinese saucepans by now.

So if your soup tastes a bit rusty you have probably got his Renner 12

Good luck with the search....

Sadly, none of my father's or grandfather's stuff has survived so I won't be able to spend my own grandchildren's inheritance in a heartfelt rescue and restoration story....Although, oddly, Grandad's Wolseley 15/60 number plate has survived on a 2005 Nissan 4x4.  Wouldn't mind having that back.....

I'm trying to trace my dad's old Silver Shadow LBL60E. The plate has vanished and I don't know the VIN.

or worse, some of that rusty iron is in your new car, the rest was once a Maurice Morona
