sierraman Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Does anyone know what to expect mpg wise from a Passat B5 1.8 20v non turbo? Mates buying one.

sierraman Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 What about real life observations, I mean VW wouldn't fib about their official mpgs would they? beko1987 1
Lacquer Peel Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 What about real life observations, I mean VW wouldn't fib about their official mpgs would they? Parkers is pretty good, their MPG figures are on the conservative side. http://www.theaa.com/staticdocs/pdf/carreports/AA_REPORTS/VW_PASSAT_ESTATE_1.8S_20V_R9836A.PDF 31MPG for the estate. So I'd say 22-42 MPG depending on how he drives, there are so many variables.
doobietoo Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 If he drives it at more than 50mph he will get about 25mpg if its in good nick less if its got a few miles on it... 1400kg and 123bhp does not an economic car make...
cort16 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I had a 1.8 turbo and got a solid 35mpg. It never really shifted much from that during all the time I had it. warren t claim 1
Kiltox Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Currently getting low 30s in a 1.8T A6 that has a non functional turbo - probably close enough
Tamworthbay Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 We covered over 40000 miles in our estate. Around town was JUST over 30mpg consistently. Driving at 60mph like a vicar would get 42-45mpg, 80, sorry 70 occifer, would be high 30s. All based on the trip computer figures.
Matt Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Fuelly might be worth a look. Here's a link to all the 1.8 petrols that users have reported on. http://www.fuelly.com/car/volkswagen/passat?engineconfig_id=36&bodytype_id=&submodel_id=
sierraman Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 It's hard to tell from what they quote and from what you actually get. With the Fords I've always had 90% of the quoted figure without fail. Never have I had the actual figure quoted. I think some cars are more accurate than others in this respect. Are they a decent unit the 1.8 20v? I've not had much to do with them other than the diesels.
sierraman Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Had a look on Fuelly but it's mostly yanks who are probably unconcerned about fuel economy.
Urko Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Driving at 60mph like a vicar? As opposed to driving at 60mph like Lemmy out of Motorhead (RIP)
sierraman Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Can't imagine Lemmy driving at 60 mph, he'd be thumping along at 50 in a 30 zone, waving out the window.
Longblackcoat Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I had one for a bit. Got just over 30, with maybe 1/4 town and the rest dual cabbages/motorways. Edited to say that it used to run at 80+ on the mways so reasonably lead-footed.
HH-R Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 ? As opposed to driving at 60mph like Lemmy out of Motorhead (RIP) The stereo turned up to 11 might put a higher load on the alternator and produce worse economy?
Tamworthbay Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 ? As opposed to driving at 60mph like Lemmy out of Motorhead (RIP) 60mph on the motorway, not thrashing it down the lanes.
Jazoli Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 40mpg is achievable driving at the speed limit, 30 is the general average.
HH-R Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 This thread has made me realise that I could drive a car without having one knee in the driver's door card and the other jammed into the dashboard and have no fuel economy penalty. Something to think about next time. Lacquer Peel 1
