Isnt that what airbags are supposed to do anyway?

Good lord no, varies according to speed, angle, deceleration etc etc..

Might not go off at all.

Well, the BMW has actually received some positive attention yesterday. Non of this floor mats and dealer sticker bollocks that I seem to be so good at, actual mechanical stuff to make it better has happened.

A few weeks ago it received its first oil change change in since... well... forever probably. Then yesterday a mysterious package arrived which contained some BMW parts and bizarrely some Rover folders :). These were possibly* sent by the man only known as 'Station'

Firstly I fitted the top door frame finisher, which didn't quite reach the rest of the finisher, but then that's BMWs Friday afternoon designing for ya. Then I rolled on down to Mahmouds new and improved garage that has actual parking. I did my usual tidy up/move cars around/occasionally answer the phone that I do when I'm there and eventually at about 4pm my car looked like this:

This is it actually receiving new brake discs. The old discs were properly borked and calioers were seized, so getting them off proved a bit of a challenge for the mechanic. (But then, so do all my cars)

Happily, a new gaitor and gear knob were fitted aswell. I actually did this myself. Go me.

In a couple of weeks, the rear discs and pads will be fitted, and hey, you never know, I might actually have a car that is mechanically sound. This is all too much. I must go for a cold shower. Laters...

Edit to add - Rear discs and shoes were done, I actually have non-bindy brakes now, and the handbrake actually holds the car. Get in!

Whatever next eh?

The most unreliable E46 BMW has been amazingly reliable. Liking your low maintenance strategy - a man after my own heart. Show 'em who's boss!

Cheers Rev. Since last post, the BMW is now my daily driver as I now actually have an office-based job where I have to where smart clothes and sit on front of a computer and occasionally answer the phone to listen to some French person complaining that their battery hasn't arrived. My daily commute in it is a 64-mile daily round trip.

Now though the BMW needs an expansion tank as it leaks and is getting worse. Mind, it does have actual working air-conditioning which I am well chuffed about. More expense though...

Expansion tanks are cheap enough. Bit of a cow to fit but okay if you're a bit brutal yanking it up and off.

I'll be chucking it at my tame mechanic Mahmoud as it needs an MOT now as well. Might as well get everything done at once.

Holy thread resurrection, batman.

Still, nice to see the steed is still in regular use.

Had actually forgotten that you had this still. Nice one Mo.

I may have a spare expansion tank, and conveniently need to clear the shed where it will be if it’s still there in the next day or two. Will drop you a pm if I find it Mo.

Nice one Tam. Might even swing by and pick it up/meet another localish shiter. Will have to be a weekend though as work demands me to be there Mon-Fri.

Would be nice to finally meet up after a couple of close misses. Will either be this afternoon or tomorrow when I go through the shed, depending on what my daughter decides to do this afternoon. I got a spare but turned out just the cap was a problem (found out after I had swapped it of course) so I think I put my old one in the shed as a spare.

Sorry Mo, looks like for once I was ruthless as it isn’t where I thought it would be. I have a bit more to clear once I have cooled down a bit but pretty sure that’s all Capri stuff. Soz mate :-(

The 1.9 M43 one is different to the six cylinder and N42 ones, won't fit. It will fit a 320d or 330d, but not the N42/N46 cars.

No worries man. Mahmoud will source me one and fit it when it goes in for some more work in a few weeks (read: when I can actually afford it) time.
