Been looking through my old Cannock auction price records, that BMW is worth £500 to £600 hammer price.

Very well bought for a freebie.

BMW has passedthat BMWOT with a few advisories. And 2 new tyres whacked on the front. Plus it got a wash and hoover, though I haven't started washing various interior trim bits yet, that'll probably be done tomorrow.

New tyres:

Also, the CD changer did spit out the cassette and some CDs were found, can post them to you BV or bro_BV, but changer still won't read CDs.

Keyfob has started working more and more now, which is nice. Might look into getting a spare key started.

Fraiser: Yes, that would be good, all discs and pads need doing.

As long as they are non ventilated, you are welcome to them. Located at wr6 5db so not too far from you.

You will also need new handbrake shoes as they will be fucked.

My bro might want his CDs, if they are indeed his and not the owner before him, but no biggie!  Glad the car is making progress.

Does the keyfob not charge up while in the ignition with these? It did when I had an X reg coop.

It probably does as I've been using the fob almost exclusively all day, never knew they 'self-charged' whilst in ignition!

Does it say "No Disc" on the head unit after making some clicking noises?

If so, the drive wheels will have seized. Its fairly easy to fix.

It just says "Check Disc" without doing anything then reverts back to the clock (which I can't seem to find how to put in some clock digits)

Tayne, did yours have a space-saver wheel in the footwell and did you change it for a full-sized alloy? I'm kind of thinking of doing this but the space-saver seems pretty neat in itself so also thinking just to leave as is (which would be cheaper)

Sweet, bash us over his address and I'll wang 'em off in post to him. I assume thier his, one of them is some "Slash" CD, the others seem to be just copied discs with "Various Artists" scribbled on them.

How is it being a bmw wanker then mo?

Great, you get to tailgate people, slip-stream traffic all in the comfort of knowing that someone will be mumbling typical BMW driver under thier breath.

Mo, you might finally bring a sense of acceptability for BMW on these hallowed pages. maybe.

Still want 1st dibs tho  :-D

At least you know the spare is good! Plus if you get a full sized one you wont be able to use that plastic cover that gave the horrific impression of an empty spare wheel well at the side of the road...

Yep, "Oh SHIIIactually no, we're ok!"

"Ah no, we're not, where's the locking wheel key? Fuck", cue opening everything that opens...

Phone RAC, start to wait, read the manual, find toolkit, laugh, cancel RAC, crack on!

He gave away a £500 car, but wants 50p worth of CD's back?

It's a strange world we live in!

Popped out to Beemer today to start on cleaning some trim bits, not quite a 'Vulgaloring' but enough to clean any built up mould didn't take too long:

CD-player decided to work today which was nice, gave the CD-changer cassette a small whack and it popped out, had a check of CDs, all was good. Put the changer cassette back in with a good push and heard a CD pop into the changer and popped the radio on and out came the sound of my tunes.

I gave away the car.  My bro didn't.  I gave my bro some money for it (and also gave him an eBay Honda), as he is skinty oot.   My bro might feel sentimental about the discs, if they are his.  Or not.

Well, just for records sake if nowt else, here is what the BMW has had chucked at it;

First of all was an MOT, don't have a shot of this but it's got an MOT.

Secondly, mats:

Thirdly, a dealer sticker I found on 'net:

and...er...this....

Yeah, I probably am slightly going over the line there....

Anyway, an airbag recall was flashed up here and I decided to to get it sorted, phoned up garage, got it booked in and eventually went down there today.

Delivered to garage

Tea making facilities at the "Isetta bar" (groan :? )

BMW Bike, yours for £800...

So sat in a load of cars (as I usually do) my favourite being the BMW 730d, seriously comfy, very serene yet insulating, high grade materials used, definitely a high-spec executive car and definitely a car for me given the money I reckon.

My car in workshop:

Aaaand finished....

Airbag changed, car inspected then cleaned and hoovered. Felt like some high-flying 'monied' customer.

Now it's just a case of getting the torsion bar rebushed, and new brakes and pads all-round.

The recall is free, isn't it? Not a bad way to get a new airbag :D

It is indeed free. Not a bad way to spend an hour and a half either.

Lol! Only because it was free, ya know, me > barrasicness > etc....

Is there a time limit to the recall? Never really dealt with recalls!

Not that I know of. On some Government site or other, recalls can go as far back as 1992.

I find that BMW bicycle quite appealing which is a bit alarming as i can't imagine any semi-serious cyclists buying a bike in a BMW showroom? I presume it is 100% lifestyle accessory for the powerfully built company director etc. Still they reviewed it in the Guardian and didnt slate it too much.

I've got the recall letters for mine from the previous owner, I have fitted one of those gadgets to switch off the passenger airbag light though so don't know what they'd say to that at the dealership...

Can you take the gadget off easily if you wanted to take the car in? They'd probably say something like 'aftermarket accessory fitted interfering with (etc...) hence we can't carry out the job' or something I'd imagine.

I could but then the dodgy passenger seat mat switch would get flagged up and they'd try and hit me with a bill to replace that. I'll wait and see if I get a recall letter through and might chance my arm. The switch just makes the ECU think there's someone in the car all the time and bypasses the seat mat. The only downside is if I crash when in it myself then all the airbags will go off

Nah, I reckon you'd be Ok, they'll only replace the airbag, anything else that might need replacing they'll only advise as they did with my 'corroded' brake discs.

I didn't click that this was a Preston Hall car like mine.

I had DMB make up plates and the same sticker.

Hey! Your car is a Preston Hall car? Sweet, still got the business card in the wallet and a long card with the sellers details and the old (broken) front number plate. I will eventually get DMB to chuck me up some dealer plates. I was eyeing up Rybrook plates but it would be wrong, it's a Preston Hall car so needs Preston hall stuff.

Preston Hall BMW no longer exists in name, it's now called 'Cooper Teeside'.
