AnthonyG Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 ...what possible justification could there be for putting the instruments there? My guess is that it makes it cheaper to provide them for both RHD and LHD markets?Thats an acceptable answer maybe for a mid 1950s Morris, but for modern French manufacturers its a stupid reason. The only sizeable RHD market they sell to is the UK anyway, and they don't give a shit about us, so why penalise their own drivers and the rest of the continent?

warren t claim Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 When I was living in Canada in the mid 1980s a friend of the family had a tatty Pontiac that had the rev counter mounted on the bonnet, sorry, hood. I've never seen another since and don't even know what model it was other than a two door coupe of about 1970ish but not a Firebird. I'm sure someone on here will know what model it is.

willswitchengage Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Civic "spaceship" interior - shows that design still hasn't died. The trip computer is within the rev meter and looks ace: Subaru XT Isuzu Piazza: And a leftfield choice, Tesla Model S. Check out that veneer! And that really is just a touchscreen replacing every button on the dash:

Bobthebeard Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Am quite keen on the dash in my 944. But then I would be.Elegant and simple IMHO. The furry cow/monkey thing on the indicator stalk aside, that is. saucedoctor 1
Spiny Norman Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I remember a few years back when I was after a new-ish car and I had considered the new shape Civic right up to the point when I sat on one and was confronted by that mess of a dashboard. I got out PDQ..... What I ended up with is one of the nicer simple designs of recent years, the Alfa 156.

brickwall Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I love the contact switches cars used to have. Makes you feel like you're firing up the space shuttle when you're only turning the sidelights on. mat_the_cat, HMC and Junkman 3
Formula Autos Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Rover SD3 (200 series) of mid to late '80s vintage. Everything you need is there, fairly logically laid out. Just look how airy it makes the car look, and how much of a shelf there is on the top*. There were also useful touches like a clock positioned so that pretty much everyone in the car, not just the driver, could view it. Do dashboards really need to be any more complicated than this? *GR8 for storage of Polo mints, Gerry Rafferty cassettes, and Tiger Tokens, as my Dad proved whilst owning three of these beauties in the space of eight years. Guest Breadvan72 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 1981 Lancia Beta - dimmer in real life than in this pic, which incidentally shows the rather fiddly design of the panel. The oil level dial is broken, by the way, and the oil pressure always sits where it is at idle, and, yes, I should buy some fookan petrol. Junkman and HMC 2

Taff Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 been meaning to post on this one for a while. This is my office This is my church This is where I heal my hurt interweb points for naming both cars
bigstraight6 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Nice! Is the old American dash a '59 Ford by any chance? I love that model year for American Fords...
