My Car hates me. Weird engine noise following overnight freeze.

Got the Saab back on the road, and its now starting to test my patience.

Past few days there has been a knocking noise when changing gears, bit if research and its the front torque rod bush so easy enough to fix and powerflex replacement ordered on line last night.

Picked my daughter up from guides at 22:00 yesterday and no issues with the car.

Overnight freeze, and started it this morning to take her to school and it sounds awful,

Checked all the fluids, as wondered if coolant had frozen, but all fine, so antifreeze doing its job.

Sorry for the awful mobile phone footage, but just looking for ideas as to what this could be???

Worried it wont even get to the garage.

sounds like an exhaust blow.

Manifold gasket? Down pipe flange??

That would fit with the bush being bust. The engine rocking back and forth will strain the exhaust.

All makes sense now.

Cheers all.

How neglected looking is that? Hang your head in shame, I've seen cleaner metal dug out of WW1 battlefields.

You'd look that bad, if you had done 270,000 miles.

Does need a clean though  :-D  :-D

Do they have an Ecotech engine in these? Either way it sounds like an Omega 2.0 starting up. +eleventy on the fannymould having blown.

Manifold blowing cos studs on ns are snapped . The heat shield clips off after you remove one nut  so you can take a took

100% SAAB engine.

Sounds exactly like my old 2.0 Ecotec Vectra did. You could see the dash of soot on the cyl head where the gases had been escaping fron the manifold. As such I actually enjoyed listening to that, very evocative. 100% common problem on these things.

Thanks for this. Mine is starting to need doing (can feel the engine start to rock when on/off the power on the motorway) and hadn't considered powerflex do just the bush. I'd looked at ecp but only for a complete rod. Can you let me know how easy it is to fit?

There is a Sopwith Camel jammed under the alternator, clearly.
