Electric Leyland Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 These rusty old boats scare the heebeegeebees out of me. There's a story in the news today of a couple who were adrift at sea for 40 days and got rescued over the weekend, they said by far the most terrifying part of their ordeal was being rescued by a ship this size, being sucked into its current and bashing into the side of it in some very choppy waters.Dont think it was rusty or haunted looking like this one though.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 Hey Cortinadave, that pic of the other side, I took it! I wonder how its found its way onto Wiki.
retrogeezer Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Some interior shots from 28dayslater here: http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=26919&highlight=duke+of+lancaster
Mr_Bo11ox Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 How about this then? Spotted in Sainsburys Peterborough this morning. Lots of stickers and appalling rattle-can touch ups demonstrate long-term silvertop ownership. But look at those bumpers! Check the rear arches, I reckon if this car had a bad crash you could pop 'em off with a screwdriver and reuse em! Second hand wheelarches for extra shite points. OMG JDM TA60 AE86 INITIAL D RWD LSD 350Z BBC ITV FTW!!!
Guest Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Hey maybe those arches are already secondhand, or Escort/Metro pattern parts bodged on as a "near-enough" solution. I wonder how many times those bumpers have been replaced
Guest Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Cor, that's a pleasant thing to see. Seeing as they'll drive exactly the same as my Charmant I can say with confidence that they are superb to hurtle around in, lovely revvy engine and slick gearchange. BRILL!
Gompo Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 That Corolla is great! Nice find. There's some interesting-ish info on the Duke of Lancaster here, not read it in depth though.. http://forum.caergybi.com/index.php/topic,1281.0.html
Andrew353w Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Electric Leyland's assertion that there's a Roadline between Barnet and Potters Bar had me driving the Wartburg from home in Barnet to Potters Bar VERY slowly this afternoon (yes, I know Wartburgs don't exactly do speed anyway!) but I couldn't see a Roadline vehicle anywhere. Any chance of narrowing that down a bit?Andrew353w

How glad I am that I'm not the only one that feels uneasy about seeing old ships, to quote a current advert on the tele, Not scared of spiders,Becky Taylor or clowns but old rusting ships scare the crap out of me. Also how many of our clan used to work for Roadline?
Milford Cubicle Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I've been on these, the creaking and groaning noises they made with the movement of the tide was chilling!

I don't mind seeing them, I HATE being actually on/around them though. Same goes for old empty buildings, warehouses, even unused trains to some extent. Dunno why...
hotford00 Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Ooof, thet're scary.A few years back family Hotford went to see some friends in South Carolina and spent a day in Charleston and visited the USS Yorktown, managed to overcome my fears for about 6 hours whilst we walked around the aircraft carrier and a sub.Glad to say that there was enough warbirds around the ship to take my mind of the fact that I was on the bloody thing

Same goes for old empty buildings, warehouses, even unused trains to some extent. Dunno why...Freak. Having spent most of my career thus far rattling about in ancient, decrpit and dilapidated buildings with only pidgeons and tramps piss for company I can't understand that. But then I find these 'urbex' folk odd too, all their 'oo look where I've been' on 28dayslater, well whatever, I went there too but I got paid to do so, so NERR
Milford Cubicle Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 You've brought that point up before pogweasel, where have you been of interest?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 'Urbex' is a great hobby I reckon, i take my hat off to some of those folk on 28DL, did you see the shots from inside Longbridge? Brilliant stuff, they even made it onto the center 2-page spread in the guardian.
55bloke Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 That's a hydrofoil isn't it, with the rear foil removed? Most peculiar!
Electric Leyland Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Electric Leyland's assertion that there's a Roadline between Barnet and Potters Bar had me driving the Wartburg from home in Barnet to Potters Bar VERY slowly this afternoon (yes, I know Wartburgs don't exactly do speed anyway!) but I couldn't see a Roadline vehicle anywhere. Any chance of narrowing that down a bit?Andrew353wHey I reckon I've seen your Wartburg, about 3 years ago at South Mimms? THink its the only time I've ever seen one in the UK outside of a show.Anyway sorry to lead you on a wild goose chase. The location was Kitts End Farm on Kitts End Road. About 9 years ago there were 2 big Roadline trailers in the grounds, set back about 100 yards off the main road but easily viewable to the right half way along heading towards High Barnet. Last time I went past was about 3 years ago and one had gone. Fingers crossed the other one is still there. Precisely here: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=524362&y=198385&z=110&sv=524362,198385&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=815&ax=524362&ay=198385&lm=0
Electric Leyland Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Edit: I think I can see one on this link! Open the following and then drag your position about 100 yards to the left. This one is in the middle of the larger farm next door, "Lower Kitts End Farm" you have to zoom in a bit. It's not in the same position as above link, it could be the one that's moved. You can just about see the Roadline logo on the side of the trailer. There's a darker green trailer next to it. Look at the other farmyard shite amassed in a nearby field, worth a good poke around I'd say. Dare you! Autoshite Rural Shite Exploration http://www.zoopla.co.uk/property/kitts-end-farm/kitts-end-road/barnet/en5-4rl/8444498
Andrew353w Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Took the Wartburg out for a spin up to Kitts End Lane and you're right, there's a Roadline trailer adjacent to one of the farm sheds at lower Kitts End Farm! There's some other "stuff" nearby, but I didn't think that going in driving the Wartburg would exactly be inconspicious, so I left it!Incidently, the picture's at least 2 years old, as I moved the camera to my home (VERY close!) and it shows my blue Reliant Robin, which I sold in 2007. It also shws my Skoda Fun, which I still own.... Yes, it probably WAS my Wartburg you saw; I'm often wizzing about that area in it!
Electric Leyland Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Superb stuff, well impressed at your timely activity! Gonna get a photo? I reckon be up front with anyone you encounter and just tell them what you're doing, in my exprience that's never failed. Has anyone gone past the very well known Roadline location lately on the M1 / M6 apex, and if so can you still see it (before leaves on trees cover the view?)? I did a couple of months ago and it's still there. Exact location: grid ref 52.40776,-1.179237 http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=455909&y=279221&z=110&sv=455909,279221&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=815&ax=455909&ay=279221&lm=0 Can you get an 3D aerial pic of that? AS archive pic here ...
Richard Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 A very fleeting glimpse. It's badly shot, they've allowed some tosser in a parka to wander into shot.
pogweasel Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 More likely to be a Leyland EA(extinct & forgotten)
