Your Rover SD3 stories (mine has ended)

If anyone else wants to take over and do it "properly" then be my guest. I am doing it with the tools and material I have at my disposal. It would have been nice to have replacement floor panels but it's a luxury I don't have. 1f45fe6d412610b78c7f83c4f503917b.jpg

Floors are flat (ish)

Metal is flat

You cant tell with the carpets in anyway.

I'm pretty sure Mr Ramrod just wants a car he can drive and wasn't planning entering any concours events.

Looks like good progress to me FOAD.

At some time in the distant-ish future, an owner after me may wish to have the original contours reinstated, and may be able to pay for that to be done!  I'm just delighted to see progress after all this time.  The work Scott is doing now will see this car back on the road, where it needs to be, and from there it may stand a chance of a proper restoration later.

I'm so pleased to see these pics.  Thank you Scott!

I think I was trying to say you're doing a great job but whatever...

I see were going for flat bits

"We" who, exactly?  Remind me please, how much time, effort, emotion and/or money you yourself have put into this mission?

I'm already telling him he is, and I do it in plain English.  And I'm going to carry on telling him until it's done, then I'm going to tell him what a great job he did.  I'm also going to tell anyone and everyone who shows even the slightest interest.

This job needs cheerleaders.

Yayyy Scott! :)

It was the royal we! Not wee or Wii just we, the followers and observers of Autoshite that may in some way feel involved, even in a tiny way, of what may be described as a labour of love that has been documented and recorded here so that we* may make constructive comments and words of encouragement.

But to directly answer your first question I have put exactly zero time, money effort or exertion into this car in exactly the same way you have put into mine. :-)

(so in normal words. Happy that it's getting fixed no matter how, well done all those involved. This is about the same as almost everyone else on the site is saying)

constructive comments and words of encouragement.

Both of which are always welcome :)

We don't want any more fall outs on here. I know these things rust for a laugh, around 1994, a mate had a red one filled with several grands worth of stereo, the door lower sections were made from Isopon and newspaper, Rover must have used even shitter steel than Ford were at the time, this was an E reg'd example with not that many miles on, about 6 years old, and getting near terminal for rust

You have a project ongoing?  Seriously, I haven't even seen it.  I'll have a look now and maybe send you some cheerleaders.

I aren't falling out (this is the Internet) and I aren't turning in a van that carries bread.

I don't have a project as such I have a 28 year old car that until a few weeks ago was my daily driver, I've a thread all about it.

Anyway I'll shut up, much love all round and big kisses :-)

Any way on a serious note these make SD1 build quality look teutonic - it was a rare occurrence to see any with A posts.

Thevwelding and fab taking place now is much better than BL offered in 1988.

Old filing cabinets come in handy for bodywork repair I've heard too, seen a Crappuccino with sills made from em

Great to see this getting all fixed up. FOAD makes it look easy from the pics, which i am sure its not. Wish i have learned to do stuff like then when i was a bit younger.

Winning.... Mr FOAD, not wishing to appear to be sycophantic and blow smoke up your arse, but you're doing a blinding job.

My welding skillz are rusty (ironically) and were never past a banger racing standard anyway. (Bonnet corner plates mainly, looking like either a doily or like a seagull had shat on the joins.)

I'm sending you a virtual mug of tea / IRNBRU (racist) and some biscuits of your choice.

And Eddie, this is proof that good things happen to good people.

Nice to see nice clean metal going into it, looks like it was caught just in time.  Good work!

I agree, it's very encouraging!

Eddy I hope you have purchased a Trilby hat and a tartan rug for when Hyacinth returns :). You will need to invite foad for one of your candle lit suppers LOL

FOAD is going to a right fat b'stard with all the pies that are going to "Fall off the back of the van" (wink, wink,)

I think I'm calling it a day with this. Every step of the way I'm finding more rust. The rear suspension mount is pretty crusty and it's looking like the petrol tank is needing to be removed in order to carry out further repairs.

Anyone else want to take over? ee960ba90028a03b33aacaf8bc3215a7.jpg

It's a shame, but I understand.

Now then....

If any of you volunteers to take this on and do the work...

THE CAR IS YOURS, FOC.

That's right, I'm giving it away.  I've had enough, FOAD has had enough.  He can't spare any more effort and I can't spare any more money.  Fuck it.  If you want it, go to FOAD's place and pick it up, then come to me for the paperwork, it's yours.  it really is.

Bugger, sorry to hear this :(

BTW... let me say here and now, in public:

BIG THANKS TO FOAD FOR EVEN TRYING!  The work he's done looks excellent to me and I'm grateful.

A stirling effort.

Once again, If i wasn't the polar opposite of the country, I'd finish it off.

Love these :-)

Look again at the purchase price.  You can afford Shiply!

It might be feesable if it wasn't for the Solent crossing to consider.

Shame it's not drivable still. Meeting it in Southampton and driving it onto the boat might have been a plan.

Damn
