I wish they still made.....

It isn't so much that they aren't popular... it's just that nobody makes them!  The mainstream manufacturers (the few who are left) have forced us into FWD blobs whether we want them or not, leaving the "proper-car" sector to Mercedes and BMW.  And neither of them knows how to do it any more, or even for some considerable time past.  So we're stuffed.  If you want (why would you?) or need (heaven forfend!) a modern, all your possible choices are inadequate and offensive over-gadgeted blobs.  You want a proper car, you have to take a brave pill for day-to-day reliability and buy something 20 years old or more, which is only going to go up in value (before you can get one, most likely).

OK then, MG-Rovers. But not with those 4 twats in charge this time. And no Peter Stevens 'facelifts' either.

Rovers

Good point

When I used to spend a lot of time driving for work I used to count all the broken down steaming Rovers on the hard shoulder

At least one a day, usually more ☺

Wouldn't be the same now most have gone...

Torquey NA petrol engines that feel like they're made of actual metal. The modern ones I've had experience of have a very flaccid, plastic quality.

Diesels might become less popular if the manufacturers could crack that one?

distinctive but seriously ugly. Who in their right mind would think that using a singing fish as design inspiration was a good idea?

Ugly?  Have you actually looked at any car designed in the last 30 years?

Leylands in general. I've got a 1992 Leyland Tiger in my workshop in a million bits awaiting MOT. Currently looking at a six week wait for a drag link end, brake pins appear to be made of unobtainium and no-one seems to know what a castellated nut is any more. Air tank straps are completely unavailable to the point we're looking at having to change the air tanks to Volvo items to get them to fit. It has a Volvo engine so service parts are, thankfully, very easy to get.

Quote of the day so far -

"Whats the registration?"

"K984 JNV"

"Doesn't exist."

"Try WXI 4408"

"Ahh that shows... Volvo B10M?"

"No, Leyland Tiger"

"Do you have the chassis number?"

"TR01140"

"I need the last eight"

"It only has a seven digit chassis number. TR01140"

"Doesn't exist"

*explodes*

You know that way you speak too soon sometimes... came in this morning. BOOM! Two of the fuckers!

I have been looking at that Daimler sp250. The only bit that is not right is the grille area. Block out that and you have a well styled body.

The big Majestic 4.5 litre engine cars have a fearsome reputation for straight line power for their day. Does anyone know what happens when it gets to a corner ? Looks would imply that things get dramatic.
