We then booted my Rangie south, down the A1, round the M25 and onto the A24 to meet up with Jon and our transport for the journey ahead.

Defender is going well, nothing exciting to report... The aftermarket overdrive smells a bit oily though.

Hit the rock of Gibraltar yet?
I expect an amphibious landing in one of the colonies.

Now making our way through Spain driving in shifts. Just tanked up at Palencia and got accousted by a pair of Spanish bobbies wanting to know why the number plate on the trailer matched the landrover!! They didn't accept that British trailers don't have separate plates and log books so radioed the traffic cops who laughed at them and told em to let us go!! Phew

Flippin Spanish coppers are right bandits. Don't think I would try A-framing on their patch.

Made our way to the drop off point in the Lisbon suburbs.

The buyer lives in a flat in the background, unsurprisingly he isn't keeping the FOrward Control there so we went round the corner to his mate's who has a old RR which sounded sweet as

then followed about fifteen minutes of stress as the FC wouldn't start, the fuel pump sounded like a needle gun leading us to think there was piss all petrol in it and the truck is so light on the arse end it wouldn't reverse itself off the trailer in 2wd. Not normally a problem but 4wd wouldn't engage!! We got it off eventually and that

Does sound nice, Rover 2.6 six cylinder, mmmm

We are now about to head off to acquire our prize for the way home, however we have a slight problem as the defender appears to be shitting it's lay shaft bearings. Optimistically we are going to try and see if it just needs oil, however we can't get the filler plug out so the buyer dudes are taking us to a Portuguese halfords affair to get the right torx fitting. Bloody Land rovers are right shit you know.

There are some proper missions on here at the moment, and this is right up there.

It's a great thread, I'm just glad someone else is doing it, I can't drive for more than an hour anymore without getting completely fed up, knackered or both.

Gearbox is hanging in there, howling in all except forth - the overdrive makes it the same ratio as top so not too bad

Collection one was a pre purchased 6 cylinder Santana 3.5 Diesel engine which we loaded using five blokes and a few straps to drag it up the ramps...

Thoroughly great thread.

Incidentally, I once drove from Ruffec to Newcastle none-stop in a 1993 416GSi.  A trip made possible by the Hovercraft, but made difficult by no air-con.

We owned a house there.  A big regret not having that in the family now.

Sure was!!

We are now back in Spain having dinner and laying up at a hotel for the night. The Rangie is flipping class!!!

Defender is hanging in there I am having to pull away in low box forth and change into high once rolling and let the shite "torque" of the Td5 pull it up to speed. The RR has no tow bar otherwise it would be on the front of the trailer.

I passed a late RR Classic towing some farming equipment yesterday and had a double take, as it looked like a CSK, which made me wonder why LR stopped selling the 3 dr RR in the UK market when the grille slats went horizontal, yet carried on elsewhere? Gentrification, perhaps? Then weirdly I saw an actual CSK 3dr half an hour later! in NZ!

Anyway, that looks amazing, the Rostyles, fewer doors and fantastic shade are right up my alley. Is this a keeper, a seller or someone else's? What a trip!
