What parts do the Citroen Xantia and Peugeot 405 share?

HA-HA!

In fact, let's the a little more scientific about this. Just checking Citroen Service which shows a choice of two that, unusually for PSA, are not shared by any other PSA vehicle ever made..Perfik.

My father had a 405, and the clutch cable needed replacing, for reasons that I can't precisely recall (1997, yonks ago!).

That era PSA clutch cables were service items that needed to be changed at regular maintenance intervals.

They probably cocked something up converting them to RHD, routing the cable around too many corners. Oddly enough, they all seem to be hydraulic these days...

I thought that they both shared their bilge sump plugs with a 2CV because somebody at the Mangualde factory put an extra 0 on an order form in 1989 and when production of the 2CV finished, PSA still had over 400,000 plugs left over with nothing that they fitted.

yes it was. Want the full half hour?

By design language, I don't mean the styling exclusively. Underpinnings. 406 moved on to much more sophisticated rear suspension and vastly more complex interiors, much higher quality materials.

where does the cx fit in all this? or the 505?

CXs didn't share much with a GS or DS, let alone a Peugeot.

I bet the Pug bean counters had a fit when they saw the costs, yet all they managed to squeeze onto the second generation car were dash switches and a few other electrical bits.

My father had a 405, and the clutch cable needed replacing, for reasons that I can't precisely recall (1997, yonks ago!). The garage were going to order a new one in for him, when the boss interjected that it would be prudent to use the one they already had for a Xantia - which they were doing up to sell on their forecourt in due course.

A question that has played on my mind somewhat over the years: What other parts did these two cars share? I should be fascinated to know! I think I heard somewhere that the valve seats were identical on the 1.8 405 petrol engine and one of the Xantia engines - can anybody confirm this?

and they'd probably both sink just as fast if you drove them off the end of a pier.

I believe they both use the same sort of air in both the tyres and fuelling process.

Not surprised about the CX parts TBH. Is the P6 not equally famous for sharing almost no components with other cars?

Strange fact from the AA book of car parts.

The left hand indicator flasher unit is the same, but the right hand indicator unit is different. This is because the right hand indicator flasher unit in the Xantia was located in a tight spacing (under the LHS flasher and facing downwards) and had to be made 13mm shorter than the standard PSA part at the time.

Does she go up and down like a Xantia? Or leak any fluids?

She's early teens, and my name isn't Sir Jimll, Sir HarryCliff or Mr Harris. Let's move on.

I wasn't insinuating anything....

My Xantia goes up and down, leaks fluids and is of legal age (21) but it is still purely a platonic relationship and as far as i know has never had sexual relations with anyone

Blimey, the old 405 doesn't look to have done too badly from that pic.

All the sand has fallen out of that 405.

I thought the engine sand was interchangeable in these models? Could have been from the Xantia.
