All three F4R engines involved in this Gooner love triangle have now had a rattly top end!!! I am banking on a chnage to the proper oil grade fixing mine. Hopeful!

I'm waiting for some TV producer to pick up on the idea of keeping old Launas going, I'm sure we could top and tail it with "sponsored by The Samaritans" to fund it.  If there was some way of voting people off, for example if a Clio failed its MoT but only due to brake pads and a headlight bulb, it would be prime time viewing.

In fact it sounds like a cross between I'm a Vacuous Celebrity, Pop Idol and Casualty so it's got Saturday night TV written all over it.

I'm full of admiration for you boys keeping these things in daily use btw

I admire how you have re-evaluated your standards with the Laguna, where 'just working' is acceptable. I need to be more like that.

Mine sounds like a black cab when ticking over, so I'm thinking of swapping the door badges for 1.9DCi ones.

Mine sounds horrid idling, but seems to sound find driving so I'm accepting the NSF window not working as a hint not to listen to the engine at all.....

Actually our Laguna runs really quite for a Diesel so I thought on its Wilko own brand engine oil.

:o

At least it was the Laguna, not something you really like and is a bit more special. (E.G. I'd assume a cortina, etc)

I was looking for a space to park in at ASDA when a woman backed her Daihatsu Terios straight into me. I've got her details, she admitted fault and there is no damage to her car at all (the spare wheel did in the laguna door!) so I think tomorrow poor old laggy gets a different coloured door from the scrapyard, and she's paying for it.

I CBA with a claim, can you imagine the sort of brain damage that would cause?

PS, SiC, It's massively creased through the swage line and the shut has opened up. I haven't tried to open it yet but I think I might need the sledgehammer.

"Whats the current value of the car sir?"

"About £30/tonne?"

"And how much did you pay for the car sir?"

"Erm, Zero?"

Surely on the basis of the problems with Lagooners one in the right colour (resale grey) should be easy to find

You are assuming that there aren't 11,000,000,000 different shades of resale grey!

Good point well made - a shade out would look a millon times worse than a dogknob red one!!!

Yes, you are right. I think the best course of action is to paint the whole car matt black and fit some incorrect wheels.

Looks like they make a "F4P" engine too. I've heard they're a load of wank.

Have a close look at the damaged door.

I would venture that the electric window and central locking now work.

One of my previous cars had a big scuff on the back bumper from someone doing a hit and run in a car park and it made a great lane-change assistance tool. If you need to pull into a lane, chances are, the car in that lane already will back off and let you in. Especially if its a new car.

There is a silvery grey laguna in the scrapyard over the road, I had a quick look at the door and it looked fine, price was good too so..

Door off. 4x13mm nuts on the hinges, t40 Torx for the stay and a multiplug for wiring. Easy.

20 mins later, door fitted. As expected it's a terrible colour match. I don't care, it isn't dented and it shuts. Wasn't completely straightforward though, despite being from another phase 1 car the wiring plug wasn't the same.

Stripped out the wiring to change it for the near identical set from the dented door. Everything was the same except...

the window motor! Not only is the plug different, the later one has 5 wires instead of two and the spacing between the bolts that hold it to the regulator have been changed. The regulator from the old door is trapped inside the crushed remains of the old door so I couldn't get to it. Long story short - it's not plugged in so the window doesn't work.

So yeah. Central locking still works but now it makes an "EEEK" noise from the new door when you unlock it.

I think with a Laguna having just one electric window not working qualifies you for some kind of JD Power gold coin power-up

Is one motor got auto close and anti jam?

Iirc some the electronics got small revision around 2003 - dash change and talking computer deletion was the notable changes.

R9UKE hopefully will know more!

I hope ya got the women to hang over some readies. One of the perks of running a cheap car.
