Oooosshhhhh!!!!! I'm getting in on the Laguna action now. Just put in a 'winning' bid of £125 on this supposedly up-and running MOT'd Laguna 2.0 16v

You're a brave man Mr B but after fixing all those Rover kettles it should be a walk in the park. Look forward to hearing your stories including the collection thread.

Mr B now goes Luguna 2, fantastic! How many other shitters are going to play the Laguna 2 will it get me home lottery game!.....

Man, that's insane. Reasonable listing, ended at a time when a lot of people are at home and it only went for that. Is it legit? I'd be up for riding there on my bike, delivering it to your yard and riding home again date/time/weather permitting.

Seems legit, spoke to the seller this morning and he seems normal. Ive got a free day tomorrow so i am just pondering what to do about collecting it.

That green with tan V6 has done horrible things to me. Sheer perfection, that's what I would've ordered from the factory - and the B*stard has started breaking it!!!!

A lot of stuff gone already, and my day is ruined. That's the only one I've EVER seen!

Your red Privilège looks ace! It had a very mild facelift for 03 which includes slightly* more reliable electronics, and they deleted the talking dashboard :( colour is brilliant, ticking from the 2.0 16v is probably the dephaser pulley which isn't terminal.

Keep us posted, I think you need a separate Laguna II thread for pages of your own disaster and woe.

Argh!!!!! I must admit I messaged him too after posting it on here and found out that he's already started stripping it. What a shitehawk

I will get a new thead going hopefully tomorrow when i go and fetch this thing.

:D

I'm afraid the only movement on mine this week was to haul it onto the back of the recovery so I don't have to keep pushing it in and out of the yard. Can't really do much else until the engine I bought arrives.

You can't blame him though. Lots of nice parts on that V6 model. He'll make a lot more than selling as a complete car.

Hoping to have movement on the engine this week Andy so hopefully this can be back on the road shortly :)

Course I can blame him, he needs sending to a North Korean prison camp IMO

What a shame can't say I've seen an actual V6 Laguna II yet. Well best of AS luck to you Boll with your Laguna purchase noticed it's got the welsh sticker and towbar hopefully the rear bushes and gearbox aren't toast from possible caravan towage etc.

Did see an identical coloured Green Y reg Tourer like that V6  looking in serious need of a wash been driven in Wolverhampton yesterday. Gotta say I don't know about the rest of you but I see loads of Laguna II's round here in the West Midlands.

Looking forward to seening the updates on the engine swap. Have even been looking myself at cheap pez Laguna II's and seem some mega cheap most likely troublesome examples though I expect one Laguna II is really enough. :-D

Well, I've got the engine now. Tomorrow I might fit it.

I guess 4 or 5 hours.

I guess 4 or 5 hours.

It takes me 4 to 5 hours to do a minor service on one of my cars!

4 or 5 hours?

After 12 hours i'd have finally got the engine out (ripping the engine loom apart) and somehow dropped it through the windscreen.

Posted

Finally got time to make a start on it today. Going OK so far, but is going to take longer than 5 hours. Not by too much though, but it's all a bit fiddly and renault.

20160101_121426.jpg

12:15 - everything arranged ready to start work.

20160101_122935.jpg

12:29 - assorted plastics and battery removed, started to remove loom plugs and pipes.

20160101_123927.jpg

12:39 - pic of belt run so I don't have to remember how it goes back. Take belt off. Look at huge lump of alloy with PAS, alt and Aircon bolted to it.

20160101_130658.jpg

13:06 - inlet manifold off. Ten bolts at the front, four at the back including two hidden ones underneath. Air intake assembly is trapped behind the engine.

20160101_133225.jpg

13:32 - PAS and alt removed. Aircon pump off next, then six bolts to remove the bracket from the engine.

20160101_140107.jpg

14:01 - Coolant drained, radiator pipes removed. Air intake still stuck, as is the wiring from top left around the front of the engine. It's clipped to the underside of the top engine mount (which I don't want to remove yet)

20160101_141550.jpg

14:15 - Remove mount to free wiring and other bits, then put it back temporarily because I've got to go underneath to deal with the exhaust, starter and bellhousing bolts.

This is where a fairly smooth job turned into an hour's worth of pissing around and swearing. I'll show you why in the next post.

20160101_142534.jpg

14.25 - exhaust downpipe to manifold nuts. Some genius has specified a M8 bolt with a 10mm head, and then 3 of them have spent a decade living just behind the bottom of the engine so they all came off easily with no trouble. Except they didn't.

20160101_143822.jpg

14:38 - OK, that's one of them off. This one still had a head because it's the top one and also it is the one you can get a socket onto, so some oxy to loosen it up and away it goes. No such luck with the other two.

20160101_150544.jpg

15:05 - using a combination attack comprising lots and lots of heat, some mole grips and an angle grinder the other two are now off without damaging the studs.

20160101_150619.jpg

15:06 - notice that my hat fell off into a convenient puddle of piss antifreeze and my head is cold. Rest of me agrees with head and I remember that because it's a bank holiday Asda will shut at 4 and I've got 3 cars, a recovery truck, 5 wooden doors, a cement mixer and a ford V6 engine to put to bed before I go.

To be continued.....

Good effort SOC!!!! I'VE sent the key off from mine for overhaul. I sent it about 12 days ago by 'signed for' but have heard nowt since. If its disappeared into the ether I'm gonna be well cheesed.

Well, if my attempts to get stuff delivered over the christmas period is anything to go by, it's probably on a shelf in a post office somewhere waiting for the person who put it there to come back from their holidays.

How have I missed this thread, Im late to the party but it looks like the whisky is yet to be opened! Solid gold autoshiting going on here, I admire your bloody mindedness with those bolts, I would have been defeated ages ago. Watching this thread now and off to see MR B's similar escapade.

Love this thread, 2016 is going to be a great year for all us autoshiters !

Today!

I forgot to take my phone, but I got the youngun to snap a few for me.

It took about half an hour to get it to this stage

Making a fairly reasonable 3½ hours to remove the engine. As well as the bellhousing bolts there are two long studs which need removing (a t30 torx fits the end making it easy. Don't remove them and you haven't got space to separate. You need both gearbox mounts off as well so it can swing forward before it comes out, but there is plenty of space and you don't have to faff about removing the linkages or driveshafts. Box is supported with a jack waiting for the new engine incoming.

So... I swapped the engines over on the hoist and transferred the exhaust manifold to the new one, then hoisted it into the hole. It went straight in and onto the input shaft, engine and box slid together nicely. YAY :)

BUT none of the bellhousing bolts lined up. WTAF? Not even close!

So engine back out to confirm worst suspicions...

New

Yeah. Flipping wonderful. That's totally different then. AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH.

New engine says "02 Laguna 1.8 16v f4p" on the top in white pen, and the eBay listing said 2001-2005 for fitment so either there are two gearbox types or this engine isn't out of a laguna. I'm guessing it's from a scenic and the breakers yard managed to muddle them up on the floor. Apart from the bellhousing it appears to be completely identical.

Well, on the phone tomorrow I suppose. It's a good job they are at the other end of the country and I've now got a dismantled car all over the place!

Bloody renaults. Its also just swallowed another month's tax because it's january already.

:( Where's the beer?

Years ago I had an 08 reg Megane, 3 door 1.4 pez, last of the old shape (bought it new coz Renault were giving them away and for what it was it wasn't a bad motor). I remember driving it across Germany, four up plus luggage at 120MPH with the tacho needle touching the red line, it was happy like that hour after hour.

Anyway, when the main dealer quoted me for replacement front brake pads I decided to do the job myself. I visited ECP armed with my VIN and reg details only to be told it could be one of six different types. Bloody Renaults!

Please persevere and good luck!

It's magic you're taking this much trouble over it, I hope you're going to raffle it at the end.
