Check the abs light works properly- these can have a problem with dry joints in the ecu... Easy enough to reflow if you're brave enough with to crack the casing and are handy with a soldering iron.

If it's a non turbo 2.0 10 valve be prepared to spend a lot of time at your local petrol station- it's a lot of car for 130bhp to pull along. (The cam cover will tell you if it's a 20 valve)

All engines are interference, so check for cambelt changes

Bloody comfy things to tool round in though.

I'm pretty used to hanging around at the pump... the Stagea ain't the best on fuel (and neither were the Prelude or the Legacy, so not a problem). Thanks for the note on the ABS though!

It had an advisory for a wheel bearing on the last MOT. I'm oot.

Do not buy it if the cigarette lighter and the interior lights don't work.

So I'll have to use my zippo in the dark...?

^^ Just not in conjunction with a can of UL.

Looks sound. Has to be worth a go at that money.

Like the look of them. But what do I know about buying cars! Step sis had a 10v 2.0 auto. My dad said it was the most dangerous thing he drove trying to get off slip roads onto motorways, busy junctions etc.

Cheers chaps - might as well have a punt on it. Like Andrew E and purplebargeken said, at £275 ...WCPGW..?!

I can pretty much guarantee that when I need to move it on, you lot can have first dibs on it at the price I paid for it.

Oh right, I see. How much money do you think I should spend? 3x what the car is worth...or 5x?

You're supposed to spend loads of money improving it, then sell it on at a loss.

Works for me...

the actual amount spent is irrelevant.

you need to spend enough to make the said ve-hicle near purrfect,

and then you sell it,

at a fraction of what the car owes you.

or at least, that is how things work out for me....

It does not matter what the car is worth. I work on the principle that Service Items like tyres brakes exhausts, clutches, and servicing should NOT scrap a car.  Because If you replace them all at a cost of 5X the value of the car, the car will last another 2 years.

Lets say the scrap value of a car is £100 and the value with an MOT is £500, but the cost of getting that MOT is £1000, but in doing so you'll guarantee, those items replaced on the car will ensure that the car lasts 2 years and 30K.  Call that £450 a year.

Lets say the other option is to buy a car for £500, and it will probably fail the MOT on all those things in a Year. And you could scrap the car for £100 ? You'll spend £50 finding a car and to get 2 years you have to do that twice, so that's £450 a year.

May as well fix the car you have (Provided fixing it will make it last that long)

Joking aside, that's quite sensible logic.

Yeah, it's all bollocks at the moment isn't it?

Right, message sent. As it's Gumtree, I've offered him swopz for an old TV I've got in the garage, plus some coppers I know are in a piggy bank upstairs (aka CASH 2NITE)

We shall see...

Yeah, pretty much. Well, you're all semi-responsible for one car purchase; might as well be responsible for two.

Is this a thing? I think Keith stopped coming to visit his Lancia because my exgf... other exgf... family... pets... passing strangers - kept referring to him as either my pusher or enabler. There was a period where if he popped over, exbitch would pipe up "what's he left this time?". Of course, I couldn't hear her, because I was too busy trying to make it look like that old Citroën had always been in the garage, just hard to see under the pile of bits...

Volvo looks great. Perfect for collecting furniture from the side of the road to Upcycle and sell on Etsy.

I think you may have been sadly misinformed in believing we are responsible.... 26 and 51 please...

Unfortunately not! Some other bugger beat me to it - though I gather from reading between the lines of the email he sent me, he'd either forgotten to take off the listing after selling it, or decided not to. Ah well.
