Nope, my dad only ever rode a motorbike, we used to go three up to the local shops.

What is it? A BSA?

Edit will add pic when on a proper computer.

He's currently doing up the plus 8 which they took off the road before the twins (that'd be me and allegro boot girl) came along in the early 80s. It's been in a damp shed since the mid 90s so it needs a fair bit doing to it!!

For every day cars though he's had all sort from landrovers to Nissan cabstars.

I was expecting... I dunno, old mens cars? Rovers would be cool.

Of course my dad had cars, something similar to the above in JMB flavour, I just don't have any pictures. What I fo have is a couple of slides of one of his bikes...

Here he is, his mate Jackie getting in the way and (probably) my uncle Derek making a complete pig's ear of taking a picture.

Not sure what old pics I have, will have a look. Mostly 70's Hondas though. My dad wasn't a fan of british stuff as he thought it was unreliable. Oddly I love British stuff and still have a couple.

I wish I could find the photos my dad had of his old cars. I remember seeing them when I was younger but I tried looking for them a few years back but couldn't find them anywhere!

This is one of the few photos I have of my father (died when I was very small in a hang gliding accident, not making that up)

I don't know what either of these vehicles are, my mother could probably give me a clue if I asked her, I suppose

Edit: taken some time in the late 70s (he died in '79)

Mini van and Morgan-ish look a like?? Not sure what's going on with the wing in the foreground though...

Any pics i had sadly vanished years ago when i was in a doomed relationship.

Dad always had a motorbike before, Velocette till i was about 7, then he bought his first car an old Minx, then had a couple of Minor Travellers, Marina, Bluebird estate and his last car a wedge Princess.

Vincent motorbikes seem popular - i've counted three so far :-) My dad had one too but sold it for an A40 when I turned up.

Malvern, circa 1970.

My sister Pippa and I perched on the bonnet of DJC702E, an Austin Mini 850 van which was our only family transport for six years until Dad bought a Hillman Avenger EFK281L (with a back seat!!) in 1973.

Prior to Pippa's arrival, Mum & I shared a sidecar on Dad's Triumph Thunderbird.  VGT301, where are you now...?

Its a Morgan, a Family 4 I think. It had a water cooled V twin Matchless engine. The model name  might be stretching truth a bit unless the family in question had been out and got legless as in the picture of an earlier model. Nice to see Vincents, Bonds and even a Blaw Knox here

That's how I remember "The English" showing up in Austria for their Summer holidays when I was a wee lad.

And we considered them posh. Much has changed since then...

One of my father's cars made it into a postcard.

ReitImWinklR16.jpg

We didn't know about it until I found it while holidaying in the area in the Nineties.

And you guessed right, it's the R16 TX. The sticker in the back window gives it away.

It's an I.S.C.Y.R.A. sticker, of which papa still is a member. The numberplate reads M-A 3996

and the 'D' sticker is on the bootlid because I.S.C.Y.R.A. sticker has precedence in backlight.

Also note Ratrac snow groomer centre left. Those were big block Ford powered.

The sound of them made such an impression on a boy in his formative years,

that I'm hooked on big bloody V8s to this day.

Superb picture, any idea when and where? Cheshire?

Treales near Kirkham early 1980's - he always did labouring jobs for the council to supplement the earnings from the farm which didn't do much really ( fruit & veg) and was before the time of subsidies.

Couple more shots:
