Sounds like some posh cheese you would get is a 5* spa hotel in the Cotswolds.

My longerons did have the structural rigidity of Gruyere. With about the same number of holes.

Won't they dissolve?

Steam from there is obv. Some hose to the matrix the or the de-aeration chamber behind the air intake column.

From the pics, defenitely check the plastic chamber. It was about £5 from Citroen the last time I bought one ( 15 years ago).

Do you have a pic of this de aeration chamber? it looks like either a pipe orr the matrix.

if its the matrix I may just bridge the pipes together. The blower doesnt work at the moment either

Smoke or steam?  Hard to tell.

smells like coolant, turns up after about 10 mins running so I think it is

Always best if you don't want oil and coolant dripping on the carpet.

I always figure it would be GR9 to buy a house with a converted garage and un-convert it.  I.e. remove the window and associated brickwork and re-instate the up 'n' over door.  Keep the radiator, carpet, insulation (and in the case of my childhood home, the piano) for maximum luxury tinkering space.

Erm. No to part number etc.

It's about a coffee mug sized black plastic thing directly behind the air intake tower. It has three pipes ( from memory) sticking to it. One to the top and two to the sides . Along with the oil pressure sender and timing sensors it was one of the essential items to carry as a spare. It's job is to take the bubbles out of the system. It sits in a wire loop that will be rusty if this chamber is leaking. Also it will be sitting in a puddle of coolant.

On both my cars I bought and fitted one straight away to Make sure it wouldn't be a problem.

Lovely cars those, I spent some of my formative years being ferried about in a brown CX2400 :-D

Nice to see the BMW of glf is still alive though! So many times at sf15 I pissed myself as you went sideways out of junctions!

Ooh, I was right - good guess eh! Try cxbasis.de for part. Or even your local Citroen dealer if they're the friendly sort.

Yep, you were!I shall try to find a local dealer..

Aaah, sorry! The wiring on that cx looks a bit scary, unless it's all traceable in which case a clean sheet of paper and a pack of coloring pens should have it smoothed out! I bet there's a few green connections there, half a day with a big eBay special box of crimps, some heatshrink and cable ties should see it tidier and sorted.

Success this morning- Spent a bit of time getting it ready for a trial run out.. (short video of success below!)

I got the coolant topped up, battery charged up and put the expansion cap on. No over pressurising. much positivity!

ready to depart

How am i meant to get information from this?

No steam after the first run!

Despite successes in the coolant front, it wouldnt be an old Citroen without some issue. In this case the weak alternator and a battery clamp that would not tighten conspired to make for a lack of electricity.

Very happy with the lack of steam despite it being running for 1.5hrs.

just the charging and 1000 other things to sort now..

Lack of steam is very good! Electrickery should be easy to sort!

We have identified the following so far:

1. Alternator not charging properly

2. Battery looks a touch ropey

3. Alternator Belt has been changed

4. New Alternator can be supplied cheaply

5. Getting the bastard bolt off could be problematic as it appears to be seized in..

Will start trying to see anout getting it off tomorrow!

Decent battery and a good run? With jump leads/spare good battery on the back seat to get you home?

Excellent progress that man. Love this car, especially being the King Size Luxury Length (remember those?) Prestige version.

My long departed aunt did exactly this to her house in Ealing. The garage had wallpaper, picture rails, a fireplace and a small chandelier. And best of all, a succession of Hillman Avengers and Renault 14s.

I'll likely swap in a known good battery and give it a whirl.

the dodgy positive battery clamp will not be helping

Should we be in similar locale, you are most welcome to a wee shot:)

long way to go but heading in the correct direction!

Got some more faffing about done on this today - lost 2hrs clearing up the wiring next to the battery.

the loom is fairly hacked about and the wires were all tangled. I split them out as best I could and grouped things together logically. It now looks more ordered and fathomable.

The next step is to clean up all the contacts, as they are all as grotty as this..

LtEIP2I7.jpg

then the rain came on, So I retreated to the house and set about making some cosmetic improvements.

the oil cap was hoachin and in need of some serious fettling to make it presentable.

At the start it looked like this

I applied some wire brush action, some 600grit wet and dry and some anti rust doodah

Sad, I know! But if I try to do a bit every time it soon adds up and makes it look much better..

Finally it got a couple of coats of High temp gunmetal, and will get clearcoat later.
