03 Lupo SELLED!

Recommended Posts

It's just occurred to me - VWs of this age can randomly throw up an EML (might be EPC light) with or without codes sometimes, and sometimes they go into limp home mode.

Don't know if it affects Lupos, but it did our Polo.

If it does, just restart it. If it doesn't clear there's a few things it can be, one of them is MAF.

Random warning lights you say ? Welcome to the modern car ownership experience !

Good news is that you can buy a branded OBDII reader for £20 nowadays, which will help you (mis)identify the source of the problem.

They all have shite gearboxes (apart from the 6-speeder GTi). The SDi just kills them more readily due to the extra torque.

The box of my own Lupo, with its 1-litre POWERHOUSE, only lasted 85K miles. I've been postponing its replacement for ages, as I expect it to be a royal PITA because modern VAG.

Sounds about right in that case. I owned an R plate Polo briefly a few years back with the 1.9 sdi lump and borked gearbox. Rampant rot, buggered central locking, pissing oil out of the box and starting issues. Not the best value motor I've ever bought to be fair. I don't get how Veedub got it so right with the Golf platform boxes, in contrast? Sorry to deviate off topic as well - the Lupo on this thread looks a peach and I like the look of the old girl.

Improvements continue on the Lupo slowly.  Its been no bother and is getting about 250 miles a week under its belt (pun intended).

When the cam belt was changed, the aux belt was inspected and looked in a poor state.  Life and work got in the way for a while as I searched for somewhere to live, but I got another friendly email from GSF at the weekend, reminding me that theres 35% off online orders on Sat and Sun (seemingly infinitely).

Grabbed a belt.

Friendly neigbourhood independent garage whacked it on today.

Good job too.  It wasnt squealing and or slipping as far as I could tell (no charge light or anything) but the one that came off was certainly in poor condition.  Probably original.

All sorted now.

Car rewarded me almost immediately by shitting its heater fan speed resistor so only have MAX SPEED CABIN FAN at the moment.  Looks like an easy job to switch so I've ordered one off the Ebay that they have these days.

As cars go, its thoroughly boring, but also stone cold reliable.  If Looked after, I think it'll outlast the cockroaches.

Gun oiled the locks, threw some de-icer in the boot and I treated it to some frosh Bosch wipers front and back too so I think shes ready for whatever the winter has to throw her new.

Just googled it on my work PC and turns out it's sex lube.

I got a flyer from work today, and its somehow not raining so I decided to fix this Lupos only fault.

The heater fan had dropped to only one operating speed (Level 4) so I diagnosed the rusty death of the re-sister pack.

Nice new one.

Unbolt two bolts (not pictured)

Replacement is the same as the opposite but backwards.

Old one was manky like a wet tramps sock.

Now that the only fault is fixed, theres only one thing left to do.

Sell it!

So, in review:

2004 VW Lupo 1.0.

MOT 23/09/16

Taxed and insured, ready to get you a homo.

Manuel.

PAS

New cam belt, aux belt, water pump, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, oil, coolant and heater resistor pack.  Wiper blades are also new all round.  As is screen wash.  As if anyone cares.

Tyres are all good, no faults, read the thread.

I've got it on Autotrader for £800.  Autotrader recconed on a value of £1485 (fknlol!) and good ones seem to push a grand?

None of which matters a jot, as its available here for £600 ONO.

Cheap to run and insure, Ideal first car, Cherman reliability blah blah blah.  Dont expect it to appeal to many on here, but someone may have a mate at work whos daughter is looking for a first car or whatever.

Feel free to spread the word, tell me what its actually worth, pick faults, tell me how far away you are etc.

NE304PQ is the location of pontification.  Close to everywhere by means of being arsed to travel.  Deliver possible at price of return train fare plus PEZ plus pasites plus pop.  See me after school if interested.

Normally, yes man.  But, I'm moving house and downsizing so I need to cut the fleet.

IMHO those little Lupos are the ultimate in semi-modern mingebag-friendly white-good motoring !

They also seem to keep their value extremely well. A well sorted one for £600 is a proper bargain !

If I didn't already have one, I would definitely* buy this !

Yet another WW car I'd love to have had a go in before it got sold in fully-repaired condition.  Some day I'm going to have to start buying these from you (but, not today)

I dislike VWs

It's miles away

I don't want more cars

I definitely don't want another small car

I really dislike VWs

I'm tempted.

it's the VW for people that don't like VWs.

Think of the exposed interior painted metal. Think of the lack of a glove box. Think of the lack of sunroof.

What more could you wish for in a small car?

If only this wasn't so far away, I'd have had it like a shot.  Et cetera.
