LDV Minibus F'sale

Ex Scout-group minibus.

Showing TWENTY FOUR THOUSAND miles. Believed genuine but no docs yet to prove.

Paint is witch's tit.

Tyre is flat.

More details forthcoming if needed

I'm sorry, but I've been told "offers" as its Scouty therefore charity and they'd just like as much as possible. I don't think they're after a quick sale as it's sat there for 18 months anyway. I just spied it and they said they were trying to move it on. I'm sure if you offer market value (whatever that is for a 14 year old Sherpa) they'll be happy as scrap is on its arse.

Doovla says 2.5 Dizzler. Make your own assumptions about what engine that is....

Probably Ford DI

The metalwork is holding up well,  the 54 plate I used to drive received 2 lower half resprays before it's tenth birthday and has since been bridged at about 70k.

I really want to camper this, so there is a chance that if anyone makes a good offer I'll just not pass it on and have it myself. Need storage though.

I have no need for this but an LDV in Pogweasel pink is a very desirable vehicle. I look forward to seeing one on the cover of next month's retro car mag

If you do convert it to a camper there is a ready market for the spare seats being as LDV spares can be a bit tricky to buy new.

That LDV will be BOMB-PROOF.  No TDCI-tech to implode, no cost cutting with regard to corrosion from those brave boys at Washwood Heath.   GIB.  This was literally the HIGH-WATER mark for LDV.  Ward-end FTW.

LDV used Devon Conversions for the factory sanctioned Camper Vans.  I personally know the MD.  He would still convert this for you to factory spec camper van.

not wrong there, I was offered our ex work minibus for £300 but it had a couple of small bits wrong and just couldn't find parts anywhere. Even the dreaded fleabay turned up nothing. It's a shame as even though they are very agricultural,I love driving them, much more comfy to me that the transit that replaced it.

That, Lord Sward, is highly interesting information......

I used to walk the dog with him and his wife, a lovely couple.  Loved all LDVs, HATED the Maxus.

They're pretty miserable to drive, though. To give you an idea of exactly how terrible they are, after test driving one of these and an old shape (non-turbo, non-PAS) Renault Master I bought the latter immediately.

They're GR8 to drive.  I've driven L-R engined ones, Peugeot Turbo Diesels, I even owned a TDCi model.

When I was a teacher, our school minibus was a 1992 ex-Plod Leyland-DAF 400, powered* (IIRC) by a 2-litre O-series.  Six years old, and it was fucked.

I once drove that box of shit from Lichfield to Somerset and back.  The kids were left in no doubt that they'd better damn well enjoy themselves, if only to provide a reason for my suffering.  Bless 'em.

A 2.0 litre O-series?  bloody hell, rare.  Did it have PAS?

I think it did, not that it made a lot of difference.  This was 1998 though, and I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast.

Hirst is your man for this - he's after one to take all his wet cardboard to the tip.

After sleeping on this (badly, on an airbed, surrounded by noisy children and grumpy adults) I reckon I might make an offer if I can convince my local garage to let me store it there.

So I might be pinging Lord Sward for details on the original conversion, but I imagine to get Devon to dust off their kits and build me a camper isn't going to be cheap. Apparently a converted model back when this was new was 26,000 eye watering pounds, a panel van can't have been much more than half that.

(Incidentally, http://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/2002/8/20/road-test-convoy-puts-a-foot-in-both-fleet-camps/12135/is a hilarious attempt to get fleet car buyers to choose an LDV Devon motorhome instead of a Mondeo or Vectra. Apparently it's a depreciation-beater, and they look "stunning" in Silver and it has a Wow factor of 8. The deal is sealed by stating that the double bed is an alternative to a Premier Inn, cooked breakfast and Babestation on the freeview [paraphrased])

So, that then leaves tearing out the seats, selling them on for cashmoneys, and then buying some cupboards and shit. This I can do, I'm quite happy to lob some 40mm deep IKEA stuff in and they're cheap enough to cut down at the back for the curve of the van. But a bed would be harder to source, and then there's the electrics which I'm not competent enough with split charging and whatnot to assure myself and my family of continued non-death.

Perhaps I need to reread some of the excellent threads on here such as Mat_the_Cat's LT35 conversion first. Like I said, unless someone on here has been wringing one out all night over the photos and is going to the cashpoint right now, it's not been advertised anywhere so time is on my side.

Great life choice man.  And best of luck.  I bet you can make a right little belter out of it.
