New Shite Magazine launched

Can anyone remember the cover car for the first retro cars mag?

It was back then still out of the normal working mans price bracket and a proper aspirational car, that mag didn't flop.

This new mag will be worth a read in ten to twenty years so we can all complain about we should have bought one when they where cheep.

I hann't  bothered with magazines since I discovered this place.

Everything here is more fun, and no adverts for MASSIVE, SHOUTY WATCHES.

Yeah, but there is no Skoda the Scrapyard Dog either.

Any of our budding artists want to bring him back?

Can the OP please substitute the word Shite for the word Aspirational please. I find the thread title misleading. Mag seems to be unrelated to shite.

Popular on Pistonheads is perhaps a catchier tag than "Hero Cars of the 80s, 90s and 00s"

What does that even mean? I don't know Derrick, but it sounds dynamic moving forward.

I'm all for Journos having paid work and I hope it's a great success, but just as I don't see the point in watching Grand Designs, I don't see the point in reading how great hero cars are when I can't afford to buy one now or ever. I bet the classifieds section will be interesting, but if there's any other interesting features, I suppose they should have mentioned them on the cover.

Relative to my interests rating based on not reading it: 2/18.

I dont understand this post? Man says he cant afford a certain price of car therefore cant see point in a magazine for said car? Ever thought there are people out there who arent you?

Yes. And that's why I wished the mag every success. As I said, it's just not for me as it doesn't appeal to my interests. It doesn't cover Shite.

Corrado, R129, 928S4, 560SEC not shite? Well, if they really aren't, they will be very soon.

Yes, the launch issue is a bit laden with glitzy stuff. The inaugural issue of my magazine would be full of Imperials, too. I bet anything, that in an upcoming issue there will be something for me. And like someone said earlier, it won't be long until the first cars from this parish will be featured. Half-cylinder-count XJSes come to mind. So do 405s for some odd reason. And Bentley Turbo Rs.

Posted

I hope everyone doesn't think "In an upcoming issue I bet there's something for me." Because that might lead quite quickly to there being no further issues.

Ideally, I hope lots of people think "This issue appeals to me. I will go and buy it now."

Publishing a new mag in the current climate must be a nightmare. So many people have stopped buying mags completely (me for one - used to buy about ten a month cars and bikes) and there is so much info for free on the internet, why bother buying a mag if it doesn't appeal

Ideally, that mag should have a Bentley Turbo R/ RR Silver Spirit, a Jaguar XJ-S an Austin Princess, a load of old Cortina' the odd clapped out Mondeo and we would still not be happy! :)

I wish it all the best and if I see it, I shall buy a copy and give it a try.

Something to read on the toilet?

Sadly, the car on the cover that appeals to me most is the R129.

Do I have a two-thirds life crisis?

Discuss.

Nice cars. Buy one?  Then write about it on AS so we can all share your joy, and keep all of our £2.99s.

Smartfone. Read all about the kind of thing you like, for free, at (and on) your convenience.

I agree with Xtripple.  Launching a magazine of this nature must be an absolute nightmare.  I genuinely hope that its a massive success and that it finds its USP and finds a place in the market that is sustainable.

Pistonheads is a hell of a lot more popular than Autoshite after all.

Depends. If you REALLLY WANT, like EPIC want for the R129, to be seen in it and have it and it doesn't matter than you just snagged a ratty-looking close up SL280, then yes. Absolutely.

But if you long for a pre-'92 (or late '95 if you must have five speeds in your slushbox) 500SL with the wonderful M119 32V V8, then that's entirely explicable. SL 60 AMG, even better.

We'll leave the SL600 and SL 73 out of this. I can only imagine the financial misery either of those will inflict.

FWIW I sold my 500SL for £2,800, still with T&T but with an annoying misfire down to I think, crank position sensor (was ill, bad timing, etc. otherwise I'd still have it). Cheap R129s are out there. I nearly snagged one for £1500 but 280 and rear subframe looked like had been shipped over on the Titanic.

Well done to Keith for getting this off the ground. It has been a long time coming. Brave move launching a car mag (a grossly packed-out market) in the current climate, Bauer are not fools so they must see a few quid in it. Here's hoping the editorial team can steer it in the direction they want, rather than what the internal publishing "experts" deem fit.

It's disappointing as I think the idea has great potential, a sort of practical classics but exclusive to 80s on cars. What it seems to be doing is trying too hard to be everything. I never buy classic car as I am not interested in yet another £2000000 Ferrari. But show me a Capri or a lada Niva and you have my interest.

Whats wrong with 90's cars?

Bought a copy today. Mate in the office who drives a mk 1 TT spies it, spots the Clio on the front and runs it over to another mate who owns a Z4 who is hankering after one. I think that may well be the target market. I hope it takes off, I'd say there does seem to be a niche it can wiggle into here.

Best of luck to Keith, Richard and anyone else who contributes to it on here.

strange I thought the 90s came AFTER the 80s so would be included in '80s on' cars.

No we went backwards after 1986 remember....

Wtf is an R129? Is it some random German thing that's been using the same name for ages but all look the same?

..... Er ta.....

:-) good luck on the new mag though. I'll never buy it but im sure loads will

I'll give it a go. It's the practical side of shit in magazines I like. Changing a clutch or something. This is where Car Mechanics has gone awry for me, I couldn't give a fuck about an article on testing £2,500 worth of diagnostic software... Yawn!

That said its good when it does the buyers guides though they are probably the best bit for me.

I still need to go and find a copy of this. I'm hoping Tesco will oblige tomorrow.

Far as I'm concerned it looks good. Looks very similar to 'KMH' mag in France which is flippin' excellent.  So if its anything like that with a bit of [French] Youngtimers mag thrown in but written in English then I'll be lapping it up like a thirsty Labrador.

I suppose in a way I am target audience anyway - I'm mulling over the possibility of selling my Toledo and replacing with something a bit older and 'mad quick performance rubbish' type thing - Megane R32, Clio 182 Trophy or something so this could be significant food for thought.

A modern Classic magazine but without one single modern classic on the front cover.

Save your £2.99 and put it towards buying a complete car on here (raffle stylee)
