Slightly crunched picanto

As mentioned in grumpy thread, sisters picanto took it up the arse by a gimp who decided I must be going to jump the red lights, and hit it when I didn't. His insurance are coming to assess it on Friday. On the phone they're all free courtesy car and it'll be fixed love. This is before they realise it's a woman fucked version.

So peeps in the know, are they likely to fix it? 06 picanto mega scruffy. Damage is to corner of rear bumper, about 1 foot in. i'm guessing it needs new bumper + bumper reinforcing metal bit. Can you say just wang a scrapyard bumper on it?

If they don't want to fix it, any reason why she can't have cash + car, n smoke it around broken till mot runs out / it expires from lack of servicing?

Top tips on a postcard plz cos I'll have to deal with them while she hides behind curtains.

Based on age and condition I'd say that'll almost certainly be a write off. Best course might just be to "take one for the team" and move on.

Pretty much the scenario. You can't ask the Insurance/garage to wang on a bumper from the scrapyard as they are told to return the car to pre-accident condition and only new dealer-spec parts must be used as far as I know.

I'd take the money + car and get it fixed yourself. Keeps costs down.

This.  Except for the bit about fixing it.  Absolutely no point whatsoever.

When the OH's Stilo got smacked they unsurprisingly wrote it off, we then took the value of the car after some haggling minus the salvage (scrap) value which was ~£150. Down the scrappies headlamp £15, wing same colour £20 all sorted car back on the road. Ridiculous part was it took the insurance company four weeks to sort this out, so the courtesy car costs were probably an order of magnitude higher than the settlement figure. Also whatever you do don't let the car out of your sight, due to general insurance fuckwittery they told us they needed to take the car away to be 'inspected', but really it was going to be collect by Copart for fragging . Other real pain was getting the excess back from the third party who were Direct Line, they insisted we used our own insurance company's solicitor to request it back, this took about three months, luckily we didn't need this to buy another car.

I've got an 06 diesel picasso here that had a similar bump, the insurance assessor spent 5 minutes writing down the reg and the mileage and then wrote it off.

There may not be a roffle. Assessor man said it's just the bumper and they're cheap so he expects it to be fixed. I'm not going to believe it until it's in writing of course.

My aunt had a reasonably tidy 03 Fiesta written off for reversing into a tree and getting a cracked light, dented bootlid and wing. Pulled her claim and had it fixed for £200ish - sounds a lot but she's one of those well-off Londoners with a car for occasional use that they keep forever, she's also emotionally attached, it's her third car ever in 30 years (the others being a Metro and a Mk2 Fiesta that she adored but failed an MOT on weldage and got scrapped).

Take cash and don't repair as said - I hardly think they'd bother fixing it.
