You and me both!  I've wanted another CF since my first one went to scrap in 1983.  Can't afford one now!

The problem with them is most have rotted away by now, CF's, mk1/2 Transits rot like hell and never got looked after. Transits didn't seem to improve that much rust wise throughout the mk's either! Great vans though, I've had a few now and love them. But by now most of the ones left will of had or will need hot stick action.

It took me ages to find my current mk2 Transit, but good ones do come up now and again, but you'll probably pay for it! Mine cost me a fair bit but it's very original and being ex BBC has insanely low mileage (19K from new!).

Here's mine.

Not for sale though!

Good luck finding something!

I saw that yellow one too!  Wrong engine though... also I think it was too young (plastic-fronted).  I prefer the mk1 shape, as shown above.

The only CFs I've seen knocking around in recent years were either Autosleeper conversions and ice cream vans. Good luck with the search.

Yeah, the original CF was a nicer looking van. I was very tempted by the cherry picker one though! God knows what I'd of used it for and I'd have got in some serious trouble if I'd turned up at home with it!

What was wrong with the engine? Can't even remember what type it was. I liked the petrol 'slant' type engines.

I like the Dodge 50 and the later Renault badged version too. I drove a few of the old Southern Electric ones we used to have still kicking about at work (A reg Dodge and H reg Renault) very cool vans but big and slow. Never seem to see these anymore either.

I think that yellow CF had the Opel 2-litre diesel, so would have been utterly dismal to drive.

I love Dodge 50s - had three of them, but not seen an affordable one in ages.  I would have liked to try one of the (rare) turbo diesel versions - that would have made a useful beast.  Bloody good on fuel for such a big barn of a vehicle too.

Nail/head, Wuv, thank you.  Yes, it was indeed one of Otto's devilish creations.  I see no reason at all to drive one of those things if I'm not getting paid to (however poorly, but that's another thread!).

Some of the local authority ambulance CFs had Holden V6s.  Not seen one for a while, though.  If you end up with a smiley transit I have some new rear wheel arch panels surplus to my immediate needs....

Mate had a slidey door van and I was going to buy it off him, however he sold it to someone else. I was unhappy.

He has another petrol CF, in quite nice nick but it is literally a cab and a bare chassis behind the cab. Its a runner though.

Cab and chassis?  I reckon I could lay hands on a flatbed of some sort without too much trouble.... would he like an MR2?

Ummmm, I don't think he would. Not his thing.

Now if it was some form of steam engine..........

That would entail it being an MGF, surely?  Al, it's over to you...
