Could this be a world of pain?

At this point "welding on" probably means it doesn't have anything to weld to. So new sills and jack points to budget for,

Bloody hell , there's a bit of a tongue and groove thang going on.

lol yeah I really like the look of the t&g in there.

I know my question is a bit bloody vague as none of us have seen the extent of the rot and £500 at one garage could be £300 at another or £1k somewhere else. Just wondering if anyone had owned one and dealt with the issues.

Those rust like fuck I have first hand experience of patching one of them up a few months ago.

Depends on his reserve, I'd chicken out at about £450

I think good vans are £1200, motor homes would be £3000- £4500+

But, this thing is neither

Fuck.that.

Where's your sense of adventure? :D

Reserve is £500, which is about as much as I'd be willing to punt on it but it's now at £410 with 12 hours to go so I think it's out of my gambling territory.

She's in Chiswick

I'd bid up to £500 hoping I paid less than £500 and ended the high bidder at 4 something, but it's probably worth £500 in reality, if it owed you £750-£800 on the road, that'd be a brucie bargain

WCPGW?

If you can do (and can be arsed to do) the welding yourself then I'd say go for it. If you're planning to pay someone else to do it then at £400-and-something it's already too expensive.

Me, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.

Bear in mind that taking all that T+G out to weld a new floor in is going to be a right PITA.

Buy my Delica................already got curtain rails fitted............!

beyond my meagre budget I fear and not big enough for us to sleep, eat & cook in either.

I couldn't help noticing that the seller swerved the question about whether it's registered as a motorhome on the V5.

As well as rotting for fun, these things also fuck up gearboxes with monotonous regularity.

Also, the 2.5 non-turbo diesels are only about 85 brake, so a LWB van with the added weight of all the camper malarkey is not going to be a rapid vehicle, to say the least.

If that is as rotten as it could be, it would need to go to a shipyard.

I think John F's point would be the deal breaker. Not much worse than getting stuck with a shed and no legal V5C

 no legal V5C

In no way am I advocating that the OP should buy this nail, but isn't it just a case of changing the body type and returning it to the DVLA? I did this with my old Renault Master, changing it from Ambulance to Motorhome. That was some years ago though, maybe things have changed since then.

Nope. The previous owner of my LT camper had to send many, many photos of the conversion to DVLA over a period of some months, and actually getting them to reclassify the vehicle seems to depend upon what mood they're in at the time.

Didn't the moog change the class of the transit minibus to camper? I thought that was relatively painless.

I changed the class on my camper from minibus to plg as I didn't have a D1 at the time but other than that why worry about it?
