I've always wanted to buy a car that's miles away from here but was originally sold local to me so I could drive it back to its 'native land'.

Yes I'm mad.

Been there, done that, repatriated back to Essex from the West Country :D

Bought in Whitehaven, Cumbria unseen and driven back home to Dudley, West Midlands where it was registered nearly 60 years previously.

When and what subject brownnova? I was 2001-2004 doing plant biology and then worked as a horticultural technician til 08. My sis (the kiddy-dweller) did theology the 3 years before I was there and my OH was in the school of business from 97, the SU in 2001 and had various jobs there til 05.

It's surprising how many people you meet who went there, considering its a bit of a small uni/city.

Studied Theology 04-07 then teacher training 07-08. Worked in the upper Bangor Safeway whilst there too. Yeah Bangor's one of those places you always seem to come across others who were there!

Yo. So I've basically been doing collection shenanigans for various shiters over the past few years.  I thought that I would like to keep everything in one place so I'll be periodically updating this thread with various past collections and shenanigans as well as present collections, like the one I done today.  Unless already named in an old thread, I won't be revealing the new owners of vehicles unless they want to make themselves known.

I'll be going back and finding some olduns and pasting them here starting with this collection in 2017:

-------

Chaps! Sorry about being late to the party. I was meant to do a collection thread for the Alfa but I've been a bit preoccupied. So I thought I'd at least make some effort here if it's Ok with Cavcraft.

It started sometime last week, idly checking Autoshite I got a note from Cavcraft asking about vehicle movement. As the days went by, some to-ing and fro-ing of PMs went between myself, PurpleBargeKen and myself and some sort of agreement was made.

Initially I was thinking of bringing the Alfa northwards next weekend but as it turned out I ended up London-bound for much of Wednesday and Thursday. I asked work to direct me to North London for my final job of the week as I'd had a ride home awaiting. As always, they couldn't promise but turned up a last minute job for me dumping me somewhere within about 20 miles of Chez_PBK. Funds, as always, were at an all time low but I had probably just enough to get to Chez_PBK with one or two quid to spare.

However, it turned out even better for me as where my last vehicle drop off was, was the same area where PBK worked, so it was a matter for me of hanging about in the local Mosque until the legend, only known as PurpleBargeKen and sometimes, just Ken, came to pick me up.

Ken suggested an excellent Turkish restaurant where we spoke about Shite, my fondness of accents and where we eat and drank Middle Eastern style food and tea;

Thanks Ken! :D

Later on we got to my ride home, the Alfa 156 2.4 JTD manual. I'd never driven an Alfa of this era before (well, not that I can recall anyway) so it would be a first for me. Eventually all was sorted out and I'd rolled the Alfa back out onto the mean streets of London and pointed it northwards in the general direction of Worcestershire.

Before that, I thought I'd stick it towards the Petrol station for some jungle juice;

post-3572-0-08894000-1496024610.thumb.jpg.b79cfcea19f924ca3efc705228ddcc3c.jpg

I headed for home, I was tired, a bit dishevelled and smelly. I'd spent 2 nights on the trot away from home because; work and thier wonderful route planning.

Driving the Alfa was an excellent experience, the sound and power were utterly amazing, it didn't hold back on acceleration. It sounded gorgeous with that 5-pot rumble. Before I knew it I was hitting the top of the M42 and rolling my way into the country roads. I kind of wished this was a collection thread for a car I bought, but alas it wasn't...

Got home just before midnight and didn't have to wake until late anyway so it was a nice and fairly easy day for me.

Because the Alfa had been living in a North London street near to a tree, some green was started to build on the paintwork, Cavcraft told me he liked his cars a bit grubby, but I can never deliver a vehicle in such a state so a couple of quid chucked at the local car washing outfit saw most of the mould disappear down the drain. A good dust out of the universal (ugh! :shock:) mats saw the interior looking a bit more presentable.

After my normal Friday Mosque visit and a clean of the Alfa, it was time to head Chester-bound and deliver it another Shiter I'd not met and before I knew it, here I was standing in THAT familar yard;

Yes folks, some people get excited of having visited the Taj Mahal, some have visited the Big Apple, but I, have actually visited and been to - The Service yard behind Cavcraft's house, aka: The Green garages of Chester. Yep, I've been there! I aim to get a T-shirt printed stating this.

And there, I met, the one and the only legend himself - Cavcraft and these two;

Dave Lee Travis dog/Barbra Cartland dog/The Cloud etc... who slept on my left foot;

And CavCat #1 who was giving me thise evil 'cat' looks all the time I was there;

So yep, it was a good day in all in all.

Ken - Legend chap, we must meet again soon. Cav - Big legend chap. I have finally met some of the big Autoshite players, I should have got your autographs. You are both welcome to mine up/down here in North Worcestershire, it really is a beautiful place to visit. Plus you can see some rusting old Rovers looking past thier best, and probably even an old Passat.

Cheers chaps!

Here is another one from July 2017;

Whilst I was in Turkey I was contacted by a member here about collecting a car. I'd done it before for shiters and thought 'yeah, why not'.

Upon arriving back here I started to worry as finances were so low, even a bus fare made me welch. I went straight back to work and the week was seriously crap. The earliest I got home was 7:30pm with 6am starts. Latest 9pm. I hadn't had chance to uwind properly after ariving back from Türkiya. I was shattered and had loads of stuff I needed to catch up on.

I'd asked work to 'end' me in Lincolnshire where this vehicle was located. Come yesterday, they didn't. I ended up in Bubsville aka: Derby. Up until this point everything seemed to be going wrong. I was constantly trying to catch up with myself and left other important things like contacting seller by the wayside plus I was critically low of funds that making Lincolnshire was going to be very difficult.

Anyhow. Thanks to Petrolize of whom had bought the vehicle I managed to get to the wilds of Lincolnshire and thw station carpark where I saw this;

post-3572-0-84271800-1500120422.thumb.png.8b1b00f06c00f61059e15e45b3e680a7.png

Yep. This is what I was on my way to collect and be my ride home. Its a Golf GL 1.9 Turdbo Diesesel. The lady seller caught up with me after she accused someone else of being me. I guess I wasn't what she was expecting. :lol:

We met at the station car park where money was exchanged and papers signed away and I was soon winging my way back home. I had a look around the car and it seemed like an honest old thing.

2 hours and 120-odd miles later I arrived back home, so let's have a look at it;

As stated its an honest old thing. Needs a bit of a clean and ideally a service but it drives well and certainly has some poke to it.

I've never met Petrolize so he'll be another shiter I will be meeting soon. Same was for the PBK Ken and Cavcraft Alfa hadn't previously met them until I got he Alfa.

Over to you Petrolize...

Daewoo Lanos 1.6 SX collection from 2018.....

Collected....

Sometime last week, I received a PM with a mission. Collect a Deawoo Lanos from deepest darkest Birmingham.

This early afternoon (because I'm a bit lazy) I found myself on one of these:

Bus%2C_Kidderminster_-_DSCF0923.JPG

Then here to catch approaching train;

post-3572-0-24426400-1524939048.thumb.jpg.0ed245da2475ca2412dad4e68c0e65de.jpg

Luxury...

post-3572-0-10073000-1524939166.thumb.jpg.da1a193b94f6276e34d1579ccedcd823.jpg

Sometime around 3pm I landed in Acocks Green and it was less than a couple of minutes walk to the car. On the way I spotted this early Mk3 Fiesta:

post-3572-0-39691000-1524939316.thumb.jpg.a7cb278d537d55e8cdc83d05beab67f6.jpg

Anyway, I eventually found the flat after a walk up and down and a phone call to the seller's husband.

The couple were lovely. The seller didn't really want to sell the car but as they had newer ones... plus they were going to scrap it but not before at least trying to sell it.

I was shown the car which looked pretty forlorn, a couple of flat tyres, tree dust, twigs, bird shit were adorning the paintwork. It hadn't been started for a month but fired straight up. The seller had a small compressor so the tyres could have some air returned.

After a nice chinwag, a cup of tea, some phone calls to Wilson Wilson, money and papers exchanged it was time for me to take this little thing away. I got some pics at the top of the road:

post-3572-0-88011700-1524939740.thumb.jpg.7b43985e117f70acd940c502c693d75b.jpgpost-3572-0-38906600-1524939918.thumb.jpg.f178e2ab151927911ac669986ef85367.jpg

Not sure if the pics speak on how unclean it was. I wasn't expecting to be clean anyway. I mean £150 car....

Anyhow. I set out on the road and the car just felt uneasy to drive. The 'click click' noise sounded more like a knock as I drove on more. However, fearful that the CV joint would give way on the journey up to Newcastle I phoned Wilsonx2 a call. We thought a visit to a friendly mechanic might be on the cards.

I stopped by at a petrol station for a cheap wash;

post-3572-0-09778700-1524940230.thumb.jpg.172eb2c4de8d02cc95bafa4bfc685afc.jpgpost-3572-0-72193900-1524940358.thumb.jpg.f16c959278e966d34651793f1170da63.jpg

Now its looking a bit sweeter:

post-3572-0-66111300-1524940642.thumb.jpg.03dc228dd779a4ade976023ef08aeb7a.jpgpost-3572-0-94001900-1524940709.thumb.jpg.5bb6c49cbf9e07682b33e86439c58d46.jpg

And believe it or not, it's actually driving better! No knocking noises, I'm guessing the brakes were binding or something. So now at some point, it'll be heading up Newcastle way.

I think that bring us on to today.....

Friday evening a friendly text from shiter askingif I was busy on Saturday as he had agreed to buy Bramz' Citroen C5 2.2 HDi. Yeah, why not I thought. Also, I would also get to meet Scdan4, some ice cream and Volvos. We were all busy on Saturday so Sunday was agreed.

Bought myself a couple of tickets to Swindon via those train splitting sites and all was set. Eventually after a faultless journey, I hit Swindon;

20190818_134946.thumb.jpg.04320ac010b151e7fedf7084eda06bb0.jpg20190818_135615.thumb.jpg.1d1318edaa477d105331c7786bc3ca21.jpg

Eventually after a very unfit Lord Sterling reached the top of a long hill I met scdan4 ready with a nice ice cream and laptop handed over in exchange ?

Bramz was working so a slightly longer wait was required but after the great hospitality of scdan4 (very happy to have met you and your family sir!) Bramz arrived in the Citroen C5 2.2 HDi.

When you buy a car from Bramz, you are getting quality, no 2 ways about it.

This car was exception, clean and tidy, it drove like a dream and eventually I hit Bewdley and parked up. Here are some pics;

? What a great idea!

20190818_184846.thumb.jpg.ee7e797e5067ea2fd4a651c7119fe27c.jpg20190818_184856.thumb.jpg.f007db138560ba1c0885547cd3a80b89.jpg

Verdict?

What a great car to drive, great as a long distance cruiser, very smooth  and silky. Not exactly a QUICK thing to drive but when you get there you know progress is happening.

The seats are well comfy, Vauxhall and Audi could learn a thing or two from French car seat makers.

I didn't really like the gear set up though. Too close together and not enough 'feel' between the gears, 1st, 3rd and 5th are too close. I guess you get used to it as you progress along as I did.

Would I have one? Probably, they really aren't bad cars, though a little Sid 'n' Doris at the moment and probably unloved but then this site is about loved for the unloved, not just old cars from the 70s. This particular one is very tidy and held itself on the road with a winning attitude.

Top day, top people, top car. Cheers lads!

... Just kidding. Looks very clean. Are these as comfy as they say?

Very comfy indeed. They also have the fold-down arm rest. Again, such a clean car. Love the boot-door set up too.
