Cheers! Just looked and there's nothing that fancies my tickle.

Judging by the major works being undertaken when we were last there, I suspect this could well be a tactical bankruptcy with it re-emerging under a suspiciously similar name in the near future, minus any inconvenient tax liabilities or whatever it is. The building I doubt is owned by the firm, and is in a totally shit part of town anyway so if its rented the rent can't be very high - and I doubt people are queueing up to move in either.

The concept of the receivers being in is  highly lollable, the 'assets' run to about three dozen manky plastic folding chairs and a gavel. Even the chairs had been removed from their bases last time Doobie and I were there so I suspect the total value of company assets to be <£10.

Annoying though.

Is there any appetite for a visit to the Hovercraft museum one saturday instead? We could even get grub/chips/icecream in Lee-on-Solent afterwards and chase seagulls?

Just caught up with this. I'd be up for some sort of southern meet, hovercraft museum in Lee-on-Solent sounds good.

When might be good for people? I believe the museum is open 10-4 on saturdays year-round now and is £7 a bod entry, though they state 'group rate available on application so if we can round up sufficient numbers (probably over ten?) I'm more than happy to make enquiries about a group rate.

There is tons to see - as I said in the hovercraft thread some while back, I went there with two hours until kicking out time and got to see about 1/3rd of what I wanted to see, and substantially less than everything that was on offer. Its a fasinating place and staffed by really enthusiastic volunteers.

As a substantial amount of it is outside, I'd suggest we try and get in before mid-october before the weather gets really grim, though its on the south coast so remains balmy most of the time to be fair.

10th of Sept? 1st Oct? Aware that Six-Cylinder is running his ShiteFest #16 v3 on the weekends of the 17th and 18th and/or the 24th and 25th so don't want to divert attention from that. I could feasibly do next weekend too if thats not too short notice for people coming from further afield?

I've never been in the museum only past it a few times so it'll be good to go in and see it properly.

I'm easy on dates. As you say though, within the next couple of months is going to be best for the weather though.

Up for this.....Anybody going to Stokes Bay car show on BH Monday?

I may wonder over later today. Torn between that and polishing up the Jag.

I'm not going to make it due to poor planning on my part - if anyone does go try and get some pics and we could sort out a proper AS-visit next year

Aye, I have posted a thread which I think you have seen by now!    A good day in a nice place, plenty of stuff to look at and not all of which I photographed by a long way...

Resurrection of this, and potentially missed the best of the weather now but is there still an appetite to go to the Hovercraft museum one saturday? I can't do this coming saturday but could do the 1st or the 8th October? If people are interested and we can rustle up 10 or so people I will enquire about group rates. Parking is free, and I think there is a cafe or something there that sells food.

are those dates any good for others?

Posted

I would love to go, but don't wait for me because I am not free on a Saturday until 29th October.

One thought I have holiday I can use as I have not taken much this year, any interest in a weekday visit?

Posted

I'm coming down to fordingbridge for the weekend of the 7th. A visit to the museum is definitely on the cards along with Beaulieu.

6C - I'm afraid its only open on Saturdays - I'm puzzled why it isn't open all week, as its staffed by volunteers who are there all day every day, but it may be due to insurance or something and so one day a week is all that is viable.

The 8th could be achievable though Dean - any other takers?

Any news on SCA reopening, phoenix-like from the ashes of 'tactical bankruptcy'?

Posted

Sadly not yet, their website still lists the next sale to be the 23rd June 2016. Apparently they make more money renting the unit out for something else now which is a shame. I don't know of any other local ones which are on regularly.
