Bugger, that is a Ciera and is different panel-wise and trim-wise. I will have to have a closer look.

Thanks for the link though, much appreciated.

No worries at all mate, I appreciate you posting the details.

Thinking about the Olds this morning. Now I know that I can get a reasonable spring replacement that has taken the pressure off quite a bit. I will take time with this car and try and get it right. The Dolly has been a relatively quick fix up to now, which is nice.

I'd like to try and tackle the boot lock that has the broken section of key in it first. If I can avoid buggering about trying to break into the boot that would be great, as would retaining the original lock and key.

Anyone got any ideas as to how best to sort this out?

I might see if I can gain access from the rear seat side of things (maybe there is a release or something in there that I can faff with) and also try and use a decent pair of tweezers to see if I can extract the key fragment from the outside. I have put the remaining stub of key in the lock and fiddled round but to no avail (as I am sure Wuvvum has tried doing).

Anything else to try before I twat it with a screwdriver and big hammer?

Just Googled and have now purchased a set of removal tools for a fiver. Has to be worth a try I suppose.

Any other ideas?

All Yanks have an interior release handle in the trunk, (so hostages can escape) so if you can get a coathanger or similar past the rear seat........

Do some if the yanks not have a pull release in side the boot ? Can you get through if you take the back seats out?

Ok, worth a look. I am hoping to pop over to the Olds tomorrow and will try and see if I can access via the rear seat.

Cheers

Usually the rear seat back is bolted in place with 3/8" torx bolts at the bottom. You will have to buy that bit, because you don't have it. Trust me on that.

Equally usually, there is only an X-brace behind the seat back, so someone very skinny, or a child, can crawl into the boot and release the lid.

Of course, having written this, everything will be different on an Olds...

I also have some new grippy tweezers. You never know, stranger things have happened.

Tweezer trick did nothing, stupid waste of 2 quid. Twats.

I stupidly forgot the tool bag so I couldn't unbolt anything and had to settle for making the Olds more cleanerer. It is working.

I came home and the lock picks had been delivered. Yay. However, no Olds action for a couple of weeks now due to work. Arse.

Mindless fact: the cloth upholstery is 'Insbruch'. Cor.

Seems that the colour is Medium Maui Blue Metallic. Just saying like.

Tried the screwdriver thing with no joy.

No, no, no, no. I will not be using the grinder. There is no power supply at the barn.

Got the GM workshop manuals this morning from Americaland. Crikey, they are huge! As in very thick. Ace, just what I need :)

The Oldsmobile fourm is really, really odd. No-one has replied to my postings despite quite a few views. How rude :(

Now they are starting to irritate me. I posted some pics of the car and they have been removed. WTAF?

I am now going to post lots of piccies and see what happens. If they get deleted I will tell them to FRO.

My posts and pics seem to be getting removed for no good reason. Really annoying and I have posted something along the lines of please do not remove, discuss any issues with any of my posts via PM.

After a somewhat terse and fraught day I wondered if one of our American AS cousins would be able to assist with the purchase and sendage of an owners manual from the US of A to this place?

This is the item: 120942389153

I'm not sure how is best to sort it, if I buy it and give a US address or if 'you' buy it and post it to me once I happily reimburse you, etc.

Happy to be advised.

Thanks

Ken

Where do you plan on getting it from?  Nothing came back on Amazon under that number - give me some more details and I am happy to see what can be done.

^^ Duh!  "Owner's Manual"... I was looking for a workshop manual - oops.

Ad says he ships to the UK - is it just too expensive or has the seller said no?

Posted

21 Dollars. I think that is a bit pricey but I could be wrong.

I've 'made an offer'. Lets see what transpires.

Thanks guys.

$21 for postage... probably ebay's wanky calcs.  He charges $5 for shipping economy in the US - by the time he shipped it one of us and we then went to the USPS it may start to creep up to that price anyway.  If he's a decent sort he'll get a real price from the post office and only charge accordingly.

Seems like the listing has ended so you are a WINNAH.  Hope it goes smoothly for you.
