Festival of the Unexceptional, 25 July (now with pics!)

Not seen any mention of this event on here recently but after the success of last year it's being held again this coming Saturday. Same venue (Whittlebury Park) but supposedly even more chod this time around. It's only a few miles from me so it'd be rude not to go but is anyone else likely to pay a visit?

Last year this clashed with the Silverstone Classic next door , and as our kids had bought us tickets for Silver wedding anniversary I had to go to the posh event.

I'm going to try to get to this as I'm only 20 minutes away, didn't RatDat win last year, whatever happened to RatDat anyway ? Was there a toys pram scenario or did he just fade away?

I'm going - and I'm pleased to announce that my Subaru pickup is going to be one of the (75?) vehicles on display :-D

Got to wash, polish & vacuum it beforehand, though

Why are we only hearing about it now if so many off here are going and showing their cars?

Posted

I'm likely going to either this or Silverstone Classic...a couple have mates have tickets to the latter so the plan is to meet up with them Saturday night and see how it goes.

As with Dugong, I'm going in an official capacity. Even if I wasn't, I'd be going anyway, as it's probably the best event of the year for me.

Jon and Sam as judges... this I have to witness.  See you there  :D

I'm going. Won't be showing anything because both Roverz R 2 NOO.

If anyone wants to meet up, drop me a PM. Not sure of an ETA, as I'll be taking a rather unorthodox route there from North Wales, via Norfolk. But assuming the Stellar makes it, see you there!

Back from this most enjoyable event with loads of photos to sort out. There was some prime chod there and that was just in the car park! Sadly I missed a Stellar that was leaving as I arrived, it wasn't Mat's though - was it RayMK?

If only all car parks looked like this...

Was there when I arrived but didn't see it leave.

Must have been a few shiters there ,but I only spoke to AngryDicky because I'd met him before, we need badges.

As a group of socially inept misfits, it's easy to get lost in the crowd when everyone else is excited by old chod from Turin,Longbridge and Luton, rather than the usual sheep fawning over the stuff from Maranello or Abingdon.

Needs a beer tent next year, the buttie tent had even run out of cans of Pepsi.

And who nicked the lights out of the RR Sport in the carpark?

Presume it belonged to a guest at the wedding, and they'd driven it like that without even knowing.

Is it both days then? I was thinking if going tomorrow. Stellar going well so far.

I was there in my Renault 4 and have to say it was one of the enjoyable events. Half of the motoring press were also in attendance, so look out for some good coverage. Including a guest appearance by Nicolas Parsons!

The only picture i have on my phone was of this Estefette...

No, it would seem it is not two days.

Yes, the Stellar was mine.  I enjoyed the informal atmosphere and was very surprised that the grass was so firm after 12 hours of moderate rain yesterday.  I agree that we need badges or a flashing beige light to gather round, having never met any of you before.  Nice selection of cars.  I liked the 1955ish Minx, Renault 6, Citroen GS, Ambassador (Princess), pre-Estelle rear engined Skodas.......and all the others.  That Model T Ford had a weird suspension set up.  Transverse leaves I expected, but not the additional 8 coils!!!

Shame I missed your Stellar, you were on the way out as I came in (I was in one of the Stellar's descendants, a Hyundai Getz). Agreed we need some sort of shiter identification system - AngryDicky was the only shiter I knowingly spoke to, simply because I recognised his cars. This may be a silly question but does the MK in your username mean you live in Milton Keynes?

I use MK shops, but no, I do not live there. I'm close to Whittlebury.

I've just realised that we came awfully close to having TWO Hyundai Stellars in one place. Is the world ready for that sort of cataclysmic event?

You can't be far away from me then, I live in Buckingham. I'll have to keep an eye out for your Stellar round here. Shame Mat didn't make it as two Stellars in one place would have been quite a momentous occasion - maybe something to aim for next year?

I showed my 1980 Volvo 345 at this today.  It was a really great show, full of some interesting ordinary cars.  Here are some pics:

And a selection of others which attracted my attention:

Mk1 Panda:

Mk1 Fiesta

This mk3 Escort was in the car park and had some epic rust 'repairs' (i.e. paint over it and hope no-one notices)

Smart Cavalier hatch:

This 1979 Mk2 Escort was delightfully standard, and was the show winner:

A pick-up for winning farmers:

Never seen one of these before, Isuzu Piazza

That Fiesta is just like mine but I have a grey interior.

Lots of nice different stuff not the usual rows of minis, minors and sherpa coupes

Bugger. I'd got it in my head it was tomorrow :-( Currently (successfully) getting drunk in a field near Cromer.

Amusing incident with a fiesta near King's Lynn - childish I know but I happened to come alongside it as the lights turned green. It was a spectacularly boy racered example (does a fiesta really need four exhausts?) and a could not resist flooring it as I drew level with the (open) driver's window.

Shame not to meet up with you, Ray.

Great stuff, I liked to have gone to this but it's quite a way from here and I was busy. The cars on the display both years have been right up my street.

Think I am really turning it a Voxhol fancier this days. Love the Cavvy sport hatch (with bonus Ashtray Export? ) Action and also that lush green metallic Ashtray
