Incongruous Movie/TV shite

Anything that's glaringly out of place, anachronisms etc.

The cobbled together London shot from the dreadful 2008 remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Set in the 1970s, the Gervais/Merchant film Cemetery Junction features an anachronistic Mini Mayfair in a few scenes:

There was a Star Trek episode set during WW2 with an 80s 2CV in it, I remember that.

^ Also, in 'A Bridge Too Far', the Dutch resistance hide behind an overturned car that very definitely has a distinctive curved trailing arm and three studs on the outboard brake drum...

Not this again...

The entirety of Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes.

So many post-2001 numberplates used to 'correct' ages of vehicles.

Series 3 Allegro outside the police station in 1973.

The Quattro (the wheel offset changes sometimes!)

Sure a Rover 800 appears in the side of a shot at one point.

Last episode, Quattro's dead. Gene comes back to his office and there's a Merc 190D brochure on his desk IIRC.

190D? Effing diesel? I assume they were thinking of a 2.3-16 or something and couldn't find that brochure.

So much went on getting little details right, and they just didn't care for cars in a show where the cars mattered.

Sorry if it's an annoyingly repeated subject, I'm new to the forum.

Surely Ashes to Ashes' most unforgivable moment:

I found the idea of Gene Hunt driving a diseasel quite shocking.

The Krays - when Kate Hardie runs away from the shop, you can see a metro and a range rover IIRC.

Likewise Mc Vicar - the convoy at the beginning passes renault 5's and other cars later than the 1960's.

Nah, they've got the excuse that "none of it was real" for the ultimate cop out. (no pun intended).

Even the Cortina was a 1974 on false plates, and don't forget the knackered and rusty Avenger estate that would have been a mere one year old!

They'd have had a job getting hold of a 2.3-16 brochure in 1982. It didn't come out in the UK till '85... Still wouldn't have been the biggest balls-up they committed I suppose.

This scene in Goodfellas is set in 1963:

Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) and Tommy DeVitto (Joe Pesci) stand behind this clearly identifiable 1965 Chevrolet Impala.

Also note the 1965 Cadillac on the billboard above the diner.

What about inapropriate road furniture?

Sort of related - the otherwise excellent Battle of Britain film featured a cottage with a 1960's glass panelled door, plastic bell push and an up-and-over metal garage door. As well as 60's adornments to the buildings, lots of the women had 1960's hair cuts. The interweb is awash with inaccuracies regarding the aircraft (to summarise the Spitfires are too "young" and the 109's, being Spanish, built have completely different engines/cowls).

And car related - there is at least one Land Rover to be seen, and, in the German scenes there are several post war US built lorries and half-tracks.

When this subject was discussed before I mentioned the GWR Pannier Tank engine being used on a Yorkshire railway in the Railway Children. I won't mention it this time.

The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery took place in 1953. When they made a film about it in 1958, which is indeed set in 1953, they didn't give a toss about

period correctness. Consequently, it's awash with mid to late 50s finporn to make the ones with a fin-fetish (I know you are out there and you know who you are)

ejaculate repeatedly.

Bonus: A Mopar dealership is prominently featured:

In Pearl Harbor, in December 1941, they had

- a 1949 Jeep M35:

- a 1944 M26:

And Ben Affleck flew a Spitfire V, not introduced until a good year after The Battle of Britain. Could point out lots of anachronisms with the likes of Tora Tora Tora or The Battle Britain but they get a pass since it was use either aircraft that looked close to the real thing or models

There's at least one post-'67 final front Citroen DS in The Day of The Jackal, set in 1963.
