purplebargeken Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Oh what to do. The sale of the Toledo is sorted. I have the Amazon which just really needs a replacement set of seats for 350 quid. I have the Rover 75 which needs a replacement rear bumper and the rear 1/4 panels fettling and repainting. Maybe 50 quid for a bumper and a couple of hundred to get the paint sorted maybe a bit more. I have the option of getting a Daf 44 (tax exempt) for 400 quid which needs a battery (6v - around a 90 quid), service and possibly belts, so 100 quid plus. It needs a bit of bodywork on the rear panel, a new boot lid (supplied) and rear bumper (supplied). I quite like the look of Wuvvums Rover Vi but it does need the outer sills cutting off, cleaning up and replacing. Outer sills seem a little problematic getting hold of. The ticket runs out very shortly and wouldn't get another until the sills are done. The K series engine does not faze me after the MGFs. Transport costs to be considered. The Toledo is staying with me for a couple of months until collection, so the Daf or Rover would need to go into storage. Struggling to decide the best way forward. Stay with two cars now and sort out properly or stretch to three - and faff around - meh!
Minimad5 Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Less car, plough time and money into easiest one to fix.Drive now fixed car & enjoy it. .. Wish i followed this path anyway ! brickwall and anonymous user 2
vulgalour Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Sensible route is stick to two and get them sorted so you can then comfortably faff with a third. I look forward to reading about your Daf and/or Wuvvum Wover collection thread. purplebargeken, EssDeeWon, brickwall and 2 others 5
purplebargeken Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 Thing is if I don't go for the Daf it is unlikely I will find another in the price range, plus it will be several months before anything meaningful happens re: Daf. I'm really shit at this aren't I. It's a bit like asking a bunch of raving crack addicts if I should stop. Sensible route is stick to two and get them sorted so you can then comfortably faff with a third. I look forward to reading about your Daf and/or Wuvvum Wover collection thread. Sigh.
Tamworthbay Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Old car ownership always follows the same steps: 1, buy car you don't need2, run for a few weeks before deciding it could do with a bit of 'tidying up'3, take car off the road and buy another to get you by while you fix the first, Repeat until you run out of money/ space/ patience from the wife brickwall, The Moog, purplebargeken and 1 other 4
purplebargeken Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 I have a classic and I have the 75, this is sufficient and can be tolerated. I can do this. I know I can.
chaseracer Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 So when do you pick up the Daf...? sporty-shite, vulgalour and purplebargeken 3
stillOrange Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I'll do my best to shift Toledo ASAP. I suppose that could speed up Daf collection... Send me the message.
wuvvum Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Transport costs for the Vi would be minimal - advance train ticket to Norwich (or even Megabus if you really want to save) and then probably £20 in pez to get you back. That said, a DAF 44 does sound tempting. Buy both.

purplebargeken Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 I guess want versus need. The garage will likely come to an end just after christmas as my friend has decided to retire then and will likely move to Peterborough, so maybe a couple of weeks after that perhaps I will be one good space down. Bugger. I have some space at the barn but I guess that is in case of emergency. Sad but I have to stick with what I have. It really is the sensible answer with the eventual loss of the garage.
