Some scenes from the annual money-doesn't-buy-you-taste extravaganza that is the Festival of Speed.

I know what you're saying- "WHERE IS THE LA FERRARI?  WHERE IS THE ALL NEW AUDI R8?  I ONLY WANT TO SEE GOOD CARS!".

Be patient, my angry, inarticulate friend.

Look - a nice Renault, that doesn't have a keycard or a DCI engine.  Do you like that?

"I HATE IT, THERE'S NO TOUCHSCREEN DISPLAY HOW WILL I TWITTER THAT I AM AT COSTA DRIVE THROUGH?"

OK... how about some Rovers.  Nice Rovers, FAST Rovers, you like fast, don't you?

"YUK! WHAT IS THAT SHIT?  I ONLY LIKE CARBON FIBRE DASHBOARDS WITH LEDS SHOW ME THE AUDI S3 RIGHT NOW OR THE NISMO JUKE OR...."

Volvo.  I'm sure you like Volvos, who doesn't like Volvos? With their... squareness... and stuff.

"NOOOOO I ONLY LIKE THE VOLVO IN THE ADVERT WITH THE MAN WHO IS ALL THOUGHTFUL AND DEEP LIKE ME, SHOW ME THE LA FERRARI NOW, NOW!!"

"AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! RIGHT THAT'S IT I'M GOING TO PUNCH YOUR FACE IF THE NEXT PICTURE ISN'T A GUMBALL RALLY LAMBORGHINI!!"

Right, I've had enough of your attitude.  We're going home, and there'll be no Jenson Button "Long-walk-back-to-the-pits" simulator ride for you.

I'd love to go to this, it looks a proper excellent show despite all the flash supercars and whatnot.

I must get my arse in gear for next year I think.

Didn't FOS turn an Austin princess away at the gate last year on the grounds it wasn't a classic? It was practical classics but can't remember the exact details.

That was an event at Brooklands, possibly one of their breakfast meets.

I shall be there. I've got Supercar Paddock Parking for the Rover.

That's a lie.

I'm taking the Audi.

Classic Car Weekly, although it probably filtered over to Practical Classics because it's in the same publishing group.

It was at Brooklands and the bloke turned up late; that's why he wasn't let in. The 'hurtful comments' came from one of the marshals because the bloke turned up after time and argued the toss. Soon after, a very specific version of events set the Internet ablaze.

A non story if ever there was one. Sorry. Good old 'right of reply' sorted it out and the owners' club got a great deal of publicity out of it. They're normally a really pleasant bunch, too - everyone must have been having a shocker. Happens to the best of us.

A similar hoo-ha took place at Brooklands when some of the MG 635 Register (SAIC MGs) were turned away from an Austin Morris day. They claimed cars as new as theirs were already inside the venue (including an MG ZR and a BINI) - the former was turning round and the latter was left there overnight before the owner turned up to collect it.

I had the chance to go to this yesterday but was too lazy to get on a plane and went to watch Jurassic world at the pictures instead (spoiler* there are dinosaurs in it). To be fair the plane ticket would probably have cost less than the small popcorn I bought.

There was an Oltcit on Romanian plates in the car park. Highlight of the whole thing. DSs were very nice though.

I particularly liked the one with the Sunbeam Rapier roof on it,

And the Diesel 404.

I was waiting for the diesel 404 to start up as I figured it would make our one sound comparatively nice. Sadly my 'do the whole of FOS in three hours' didn't allow me to wait around for cars to actually do anything. I feel a replica coming on, though

Used to go (& get paid for it for a couple of years), while it's a good event, it's seriously bloody expensive and very overcrowded if the last one I went to was anything to go by.

Wanted to go (had a way of getting in) but had too much work to do and couldn't afford the pez (I'd get it back, but it involves spending even more money I don't have at the moment).

As an ordinary paying member of the public my Thursday there cost me about £16 including entrance ticket and refreshments but not including the fuel to get there.

But Thursday isn't a proper day though is it? It used to be just a press day but if you got in OK then I guess this isn't the case anymore. From Friday onwards when I looked a year or two back it was very pricey esp. the weekend when most of the action occurs.

If it's the same next year I'll go along on the thursday myself if it's a similar price.

True-ish. Thursday is the 'Moving Motor Show' so the only cars going up the hill are moderns but virtually all of the proper cars are already in the paddocks and the Style et Luxe arena.  There's plenty of big names wandering about/tending to their cars (I met Don Garlits and finally grabbed an autograph from Derek Bell this year) ,the trade stands are all there etc.  It is still a mega day out with an opportunity to look up close at incredible vehicles.

I'd love to have seen the big FIAT running but then I'm hoping to be at Chateau Impney in a couple of weeks and it is entered there too.

Fair enough, thanks for the update! Think I'll go next year then.
