Are you easily led? Ford or Kia not good enough for you or your Barratt home. Well...................

Seriously. What the fucking hell are they playing at and......

.....who in the name of all things Holy strode into a BMW dealership and thought that exchanging 25 grand for this was a great idea?

FFS.  :?

Aren't these one of them new fandangled fwd cars from BMW? have seen one, would prefer not to see another.

Seen a few of them about sadly. They do seem to scream 'desperately aspirational and willing to finance myself to the eyeballs for something so meh' don't they.

Can't blame them for wanting to make money, but they make a Renault Scenic seem interesting.

Isn't that a Kia Carens?

Close, but 6 grand too dear and with 4 years less warranty. It's a 218d. D for 'desirable', not.

It would be more laughable were it not so tragic.

Or for a few grand less...............

One more triumph of marketing over engineering : there's hundreds of thousands of poor bastards out there who would readily exchange their hard earned cash for one of those monstrosities, convinced that they are buying a premium, exclusive automobile.

Oh, the humanity...

would prefer not to see another.

It's got a BMW badge on it so I wouldn't keep your hopes up.

One drove past this morning it looked like a kia till i spotted the 218i badge on the back.

That would piss him off in a car park to be asked about his new kia.

Or for a few grand less...............

What is that? It doesn't look anything like a BMW but it still looks nice. BMW have really managed to corner the lucrative 'it's not Korean, honest' market really well.

It does look like a Kia, not exactly lovely, but just "meh" modern car. Could stick Hyundai or a PSA badge on the front and no one would batter an eyelid.

Quite galling that they've even nicked Rover's model numbers for their turds. I know which 218 I'd rather have.

I opened this thread and thought RBJ had uploaded a picture of some new shape Hyundai.

Thats a BMW?

What a nasty bland white goods POS that is.

Modern Bimmers are odd. Mercedes have taken a gamble with their new A Class as well, but I personally think they've done a much more attractive job.

Don't know how much it costs, but I'd imagine it's at least a couple of thousand Groat.

In a heavy/understeery/fwd/savage turbo diesel on-off/can't see out of the fucking thing sort of way it's probably okay.

But I haven't driven one and have no desire to be seen in such a shitheap. If you've got lots of kids or elderly folk to cart around, stop being such a pretentious twat and buy a Kia or an S Max. Nobody will laugh at you. But in this they will. It's the sheer blatant one-upmanship wankery of this thing that pisses me off.

"Oh, we've got the BMW version".

Fuck off.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

Sack that, buy a 6 month old Zafira Tourer for half the price, it is better equipped, looks as though some thought has gone into trying to style it as much as a MPV can be styled.

Another vote for the S-Max also, its just like an even bigger Mondeo and just as good to drive.

Only MPV thing I would pick that BM over is the C4 Picasso, they are horrendous to drive, particularly with the auto box and lever behind the steering wheel, the accelerator is just an on/off switch.

BMWs used to have such a strong brand identity. People who knew nothing about cars could recognise them. Other road users would know to give them a wide berth and avoid letting them out of junctions. Kids would know what the 4 round lights and kidney grills meant from a young age. I don't know what makes me sadder: the complete bastardisation of the few things that made beemers good, or the enthusiasm with which the average new car borrowing public continue to consume the bastard things

^^^ It's all about the brand now.

Load of old shit. I saw a shiny-suited type standing beside his brand new 1 Series pov spec a few weeks back. Said Ultimate Driving Machine had expired in a cloud of steam and was causing OMG TRAFFK CHAOS in Bedford Street, Belfast. Mr Burton's Dummy was yelling into his mobile at the time, no doubt demanding a public enquiry.

I did a LOL.

The tragedy is, the 3 Series (current one) is a really, really nice car to drive. I mean it's seriously nice. But one look at the thing from the outside and the connotations that go with it - no. I'll have a Network Q £5995 Insignia instead thanks.
