Autoshite Outing (NZ Chapter)

Recommended Posts

Posted

We had a 75% turnout of NZ Autoshiters (following Jon's unavoidable withdrawal due to work commitments).

It was therefore Stuno, BM55 and yours truly who pitched up at MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) in Auckland this morning.

Stuno and I had both been there before some time ago and agreed that there was a lot less car shite than previously but plenty plane shite!

Anyway, I will let the pictures do the talking. My favourite of the day was thr Massey-Ferguson which Ed Hillary took with him to the Pole!

A thoroughly enjoyable day was had, great to meet you at last Mr Capri. Mr bm55 wings his way back to Scotland this week, so we will be back down to 3. The museum was seriously short of motoring bits, but a good wander about anyway. The Austin truck above is a tanker, used by NZ breweries to deliver the companies product to pubs in an attempt to do away with kegs. The above Manta is a huge rarity in NZ the only one I have seen and looks good.

Sorry I couldn't make it but glad I ducked out, as I found out just prior to leaving for work that it would be a 17hr day. Think of the money, I suppose! Glad you all had a good time and I did think of you all, especially when I saw a dark blue or black Manta with gold stripes heading down SH1 on my way up to Auckland!

Will have to get the Visa sorted and have an 'excessively white 1980's car' meet some time. Just a shame the BX won't be able to attend....

Posted

And the reason why the Bx may be absent is repeated below, will the cost of repairs be more than the insured value ?

I am including a photo of my backyard taken during the last "event". and to cap off, BM55 has sold his car to a chap who lives half-way between my home and Jon's, he already owns a red V3000 and I parked behind the spot below in the very small town where he lives. It MUST be the same chaps car.

Edit ..the pics have disappeared again, will try to load them separately

Sorry, only just spotted this thread, nice selection of pictures from MOTAT there.

Thanks for the day out - was good to do something like this before leaving the country.

Hopefully Stuno and Jon can keep an eye on my old Mitsubishi to an extent as its so local, it turned out to be a great car during my time in New Zealand.

I was wondering the same thing and I'm not sure it is...

Yes it is the real one , obv. in the same condition as it was when filming finished !

I had forgotten all about that film.

Tha tractor is mucking fental. Who thought a cab made out of Dexion and polythene would work in the artic? Barking

The Fergie ! there were a lot of photos in that display and the "cab" can be seen with it's Dexion showing although there is also canvas covering the framework, obv. to keep out the cold ! I also noted that of all the 3 types of vehicles used by that expedition the Fergusons were rated the most reliable they had.
