Ahh, all this recent car fixery means that i NEED MOAR CARZ!

First up on the hitlist was a non PD tdi Octavia- veg munching goodness combined with pretty good reliability.

Monday saw an add appear, at an all too bargainatious price- so I simply couldnt refuse!

185k, 2 owners from new and MOT til Dec

whoops.

Full details of the usual mental collections are to be found at: https://fuguttycars.wordpress.com/2015/06/02/madcap-minicab-motorway-madness/

This one should be a keeper.

How cheap and where? A bagillionty miles away from me as these things usually are?

Top purchase mate. These love the veg, as you're aware, it's a hatchback version of my boring.

If you don't like the seats try others from the platform, I like late 8L A3 sport seats. Blank off the EGR, when the clutch goes change the dmf to solid and get a blacksmoke remap.

Mine just ticked over 237k yesterday, the to do list is currently fix a/c.

Oh and if you want cruise control and don't have it you can retro fit it quite easily, kits cost about £80.

You have PM..

Needs to be an SDI for the full miserable experience.

that'll be an Sdi lump. I dunno if they like veg, but the older version in my polo runs happily on a 50% blend..

Cheers for that-thought you'd be along with sage advice!

Initially i need to sort the brake issue and git er cleaned, then I'll start looking at what I can do.

Shes the 90bhp I think

The polo has the previous vesesion of the sdi- I needed some boost back in my life.

90bhp mate ... well then you'll be needing bigger injector nozzles sir.

I've heard that fitting bigger nozzles basically turns it in to a 110 ... That said removing injectors isn't always straightforward.

Brakes: I use the cheapest discs possible but get half decent pads. I did the rears on mine last weekend, 2 of us had the job done in under 1hr.

I thought it was nozzles and turbo? Nevermind! Thats in the future..

Yup hear you re discs and pads-fun times ahead I think.

Will get some gen off you at the fest o shyte later in the week.

I think the 110 has a variable geometry turbo.

These are properly miserable, but good on veg and quite nippy. Like a mk3 Astra TD made by VW.

I have some spairs for an Octavia if you need anything.

Yeah it does. Holset h35 is a better bet though:)

Deffo interested in spares-pap me a pm with whatcha got:)

Cheers

Both the 90 and 110 run the same variable nozzle turbo, just injectors different, they are dead easy to change. After that many miles I would clean the inlet out too, after that many miles is will be full of black sludge. Clutch should be dmf free too. Great engines.

Thanks for that:) will bear it in mind.

I'll get a look about it tonight to see whats what and get a list of stuff to do

This evening a mini vulgalouring took place..

I've already been admonished on twitter due to a lack of "bucket shot";)

What do we think?

Poor garage vacuum got hammered for 30 mins or so, and then the old wipes came out for super speedy swipery..

The pile of wipes is what came off the drivers door/dassh steering wheel/ centre console.

The engine bay can wait for another day!

That was vile.

That still is vile.

Good work.

Lots of work to do.

Thanks- heading in the right direction, thankfully it was mainly bark/wood/leaves..

Seats are ropey though-swapping them out may be easiest.

if ye can be arsed; cleaning out n even platin off the egr plumbing nonsense  - especially cleaning out the manifold, as far in as you can reach with rags or whatever - makes a big difference to getting rid of the boggy, sluggish acceleration ...

Due to extreme VAG Skoda penny-pinching, these have drums at the back - the only strain of the mk4 golf/bora floorpan based cars that does- the wheel cylinders can go without warning - in an estate carrying a TDi lump in the back 50 miles home, can be 'very character building n underwear consuming.... ask me how I know

The TB is simple enough to do; you can make yr own locking tools with a bits of plate n a grinder; ignore the 'its very complicated n time consuming n needs a purchased set of locking tools' tales of doom - takes all of 2.5 hrs tops to do a full TB kit, n access aint that bad with the drivers side top engine mount taken off n a jack/lump of wood under the sump...

Good effort, Skodas are for winnars! Not as awesome as a burgundy estate but she'll do...

Give this boy a shout-I got 100l of oil of him, ran it through my 5 micron filters and it's as clear as, er, clean oil.

This one has working windows! And working air con..

I used to like you.

Posted

Now that it is almost fit to sit in, I'll run it up to the unit for a stripdown and look..

Key elements for checking:

Condition of brakes (known fault present)

Condition of Dampers

Condition of other suspension componants

Condition of tyres

Condition of bodywork

Condition of underside

brake lines

fuel lines

Condition of fuel filter

engine oil condition

coolant conditon

fuelpump seals

air filter

pollen filter

Cambelt inspection.

Based on the outcome of that little perusal I'll see if she's worth the spending on.

If work is to go ahead, it'll likely be brakes first, followed by a full service.

Is the cambelt relatively simple on these?
