Charlestown is great, you can even do underground canoeing if you want. I did it on the 2nd of January a few years ago. Bracing.

That's pretty fucking cool. We should do an Autoshite day out down the Cults mine sometime.

I think I've got everything I need from the other van for this one. I probably won't take the tow bar so if anyone wants it then get in touch.

I didn't realise you stay in Cairneyhill - I also do.

The railway is easy to get to, there's a level crossing still at Merryhill right next to the Scottish Lime centre. From there you can follow the tracks down to Charlestown.

I've been down that way but never thought to follow the tracks.

How are the front floors?

My Visa GT needs a lot of welding and I have found the only panels I can buy for it are sills. Our local engineering shop/blacksmith says he hates welding cars like you and when I have asked in the past has turned me down flat. For the Visa GT a mutual friend has asked him for me (must have some blackmail material on him!) and he has reluctantly agreed so I need to get any repair panels I can find.

I haven't had it on the ramp yet but will get some photos when I do. I'm tempted to cut various bits of metal from other panels so cutting out bits of floor won't be much of an issue.

My tat clear out is going remarkably well, I had hoped to sell my Riva and win the one on the tat thread but it ended early so now I'm lada-less, next I will sell the E28 followed by the 305.

Sigma arrived last night, there's a droning coming from the rear, possibly the wheel bearings but the brakes are also sticking. Power steering whines and the battery doesn't hold charge. Shouldn't be too long before it goes on the road.

What is the plan for the C15?

It's axle is going on the gold 305, then stripped and scrapped most likely. I may end up using it as a shed.

I still require bumper cap, sun visor and what condition is the rear bumper bar in too please

The welder who has agreed to do the work on my Visa GT is desperate for me to find him the floor under the drivers feet because mine is so bad, would you be prepared to cut it out of the C15 if I drove up and collected it? Go to PM if you prefer not to fill your thread with my stuff.

I may even be able to help you deliver it 6C. I am up I Kinross for Christmas and then down to Cambridge to see inlaws

Tat clear out didn't go too well, Sold the Riva then bought the Sigma followed by a 940 estate.

The Alto's head gasket blew.

I've ordered a new gasket set and timing belt so hopefully I can get it sorted, in for another mot and then decide whether to keep it or let it go.

Here's some pics of the 940.

It's a "highlander" model, I've no idea what that means but it's a 2.0l n/a with a 5 speed manual gearbox. It's probably on 200k miles, the clocks have been changed at some point. Overall it seems ok, the brake calipers are sticky, the gearbox feels stiff at times with a crunch in 2nd gear and the fuel pump relay has already been opened up for re-soldering dry joints.

I changed the gearbox oil in hope that it would make the gears smoother but it still isn't great so I've ordered some bushes for the gear linkage.

As much as I would like to buy it the practicalities of retrieving it from an unknown part of Scotland down to Horsham 20 miles up from the English channel seems a bit much . Did you ever manage to get it Motd or what surprises did you find lurking underneath .

Which part of Scotland do you live in , I do still have cousins up that way .

It's not my car anymore so please direct your pointless questions to the new owner.

Thanks.

Anyway here's a few more pics of the Stanza taken today.

It requires welding on the inner sills and wheel arches and there are a few scabs of rust to tidy up. I'm planning on getting some paint mixed up at my local place and using the compressor to spray it the correct colour.

I'll be painting the tide mark the original colour as well as the rear number plate surround.

There's been a set of bluebird steel wheels sitting around for ages so I'm going to paint them, fit tyres and that's pretty much it.

Alto went away on Wednesday.

The cylinder head has been removed and been sent to JEM Engineering for a skim and pressure check, should be back by Monday then it'll have a new gasket set, timing belt, water pump and thermostat which will hopefully cure any issues.

I had a go at welding the Stanza.

Painted the number plate surround back to the original colour instead of black.

Welded some sill and inner and outer wheel arch.

I plan on removing the tide mark on the doors and going back to the original colour, should have it done by tomorrow.

We've had a set of Bluebird steels sitting for ages, I've primed them ready for painting tomorrow.

I have some beige left over from my ranger wheels so I think I'll use that for the bluebird steels.

Nice to see the repairs happening on the Stanza and the paint match is surprisingly good given how notoriously bad pale metallic blue can be to blend well.

Paint looks really good as does the arch repair. I like the old wheels with the cool chrome rings on, will the chrome rings fit the new wheels?

Posted

Old wheels are 13" and new wheels are 14" so trims won't fit.
