What happened to the bonnet, and did you check their pulse afterwards?
nisfan Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 I think someone must have jumped on the bonnet, also a flying cone in December may have added to the damage it's now a proper TURDO Dick Cheeseburger 1

somewhatfoolish Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 So, the Polo runs really badly. When Rainagain was round the other week welding his car I managed to break down a mile down the road thinking I had possibly run out of fuel. I stuck more fuel in and managed to limp it back up the road but it still didn't run very well.I noticed that there were no fuel filters under the bonnet, the original mechanical fuel pump has been replaced by an electric one so today I bought a couple of cheap filters and stuck one before the pump and another before the carb. DSC_0005 by srblythe, on Flickr Yes, That's black! And here's the one to the pump DSC_0004 by srblythe, on Flickr Also black! DSC_0006 by srblythe, on Flickr I used the pump to empty the tank into a container. I'm thinking the best option will be to replace the tank especially if I'm going to have to go to the hassle of removing it to clean it out but if I can clean it without removing it I'll give it a go.Anyone got any tips for flushing out a filthy petrol tank? What the blazes? If it was dizzle it would probably be bug growth, as that fills up the tank with manky black sludge, what does that to pez I have no idea. Perhaps someone tried to run it on coal.

HMC Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 ^Looks great, Triple valve FTW. I wonder how late these got- I havent seen them on a R?
DodgyBastard Posted September 8, 2018 Author Posted September 8, 2018 RJC_3597 by srblythe, on Flickr Some more progress made on the Polo. The new petrol tank arrived on Thursday so I fitted it and put some fuel in and it runs fine without cutting out. I fucked about with the carb and timing when it wasn't running right before so no doubt I'll have to make some adjustments now that it runs without cutting out. RJC_3586 by srblythe, on Flickr I picked up a set of Frontera steels for £15, painted them green and stuck them on the Ranger. DodgyBastard Posted September 15, 2018 Author Posted September 15, 2018 Wow! This Proton is actually pretty rusty! I made a start on the "easy" side which looked to have less rust... RJC_4179 by srblythe, on Flickr RJC_4181 by srblythe, on Flickr Oh dear! I started by cutting out the rusty bit then making an inner arch, welding it, painting it and doing the same with the outer arch. RJC_4183 by srblythe, on Flickr RJC_4184 by srblythe, on Flickr RJC_4185 by srblythe, on Flickr RJC_4187 by srblythe, on Flickr Thinking I had finished I had a prod at other suspect areas. RJC_4188 by srblythe, on Flickr RJC_4190 by srblythe, on Flickr And found that there was a lot more rust than I'd anticipated, I ended up having to spend another 3 hours welding underneath including welding the spring mount, upper shock mount, a large section of the inner wheel arch and an area close to the axle mount. It took about 4 hours in total just to do one side, tomorrow I'm hoping to get the other side finished. D Spares & Tyres, drum, Dirk Diggler and 5 others 8

D Spares & Tyres Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Proton saloon true story: A long long time ago I had a Proton saloon and a Lada Niva. I changed the oil on the Niva but didn't put the sump plug back in. Cue some very messy gravel. So now I had a road legal Niva with no oil and a Proton that drove fine but not tax or tested. So to kill two birds I shovelled the manky gravel into some tubs and took them to the tip on the way to buy more oil in the Proton. Going over a speed hump dislodged the rotten shock absorber mounts so with the weight of the gravel I bounced my way to the tip. I got followed by a copper but didn't get pulled. This was twenty years ago and it was a G reg Proton. Im.assuming your shock mounts were done many years ago! DodgyBastard, Lacquer Peel and oldcars 3
DodgyBastard Posted September 16, 2018 Author Posted September 16, 2018 Round two! RJC_4257 by srblythe, on Flickr This side was a bit worse, I welded in various patches underneath. The finished wheel arch looks horrendous but I'm hoping the plastic trip will hide most it. The shock mount disintegrated so I had to weld either side of it and above.
