Could you speak up a bit please, I can't hear you very well.

Written like a message from WW2, you just need to ask God to speed your return to your dear Margaret after the Hun have stopped bombing your position.

They do seem as tough as old boots these Yarisisisis. I've seen loads with big miles on them and the majority wear them well. I would suspect the lack of servicing is down to people knowing how reliable most Jap stuff is so just assuming they never have to maintain them.

Good luck with the fuel tank, hope it's not too bad a job for you.

I like these, Parkette turns 14 next month and am already thinking about her first set of wheels - one of these is in the top three. Be interesting to hear about what goes wrong / what is a nightmare to sort on these.

At least they don't tend to rust like a Ka as you rightly say

Old skool Jap motors just keep soldiering on, Yaris 1 seems to have been a worthy replacement for the superb little Starlet.

How they manage to pass a spark with knackered plugs i dunno, had to do a OMGCHG on a Prarie in a previous life, spark plugs were all knackered, there's a fookin great hole burnt out of the head between two cylinders and still the bastard started first time...where much euro stuff of the time wouldn't even fart if if there was a hint of damp in the air.

They can go on for ever,  if looked after. A friend had an 02 one from new and last year gave to his daughter with 120,000 miles. It is still going strong, no faults or failures to proceed in 13 years only wotk done to it was a complete brake overhaul. He serviced it himself, every 6 months I think.

The bonus: sliding rear seats so that you could seat four adults and no luggage or 4 dwarfs with enough for a fortnight's holiday. I can't believe that it is now shite.

Getting back to World war 2

It sounds like the issue with the fuel tank is Flak damage if it's got a couple of holes.... It could do with a self sealing tank..

That or it was bounced by a couple of ME109's or FW190's..

How big are the holes as those 20mm cannons can really damage a fuel tank.

Good point, I think only the facelift version had self-sealing tanks

I've never even checked the engine in my MR2 in three years (apart from changing oil). Rover ran kseries in MR2 mule cars when they were developing the MGF, what do Toyota do to make their cars so reliable? Easily my favouritist car maker.

If Burnaston is anything to go by then Toyotas QC is miles ahead of most of the competition.

Stand by their product,  the head honcho admitted very publicly and apologised for losing the sight of the ball a few years ago....they made some mistakes just as any maker does, but when they do they stand up and admit it and put the problems right (usually extending warranty to 7 years/110k miles), and don't expect their customers to foot the bill for their fuck up like too many other makers.

Good standards, old fashioned and expensive belt and braces design...example, the (big bastard) cam belt in the Landcruiser does not drive the water pump, it drives the camshafts, there are three serpentine belts all driven off the crank, two of them drive the water pump which means if one belt snaps there's every chance you can carry on driving to get it fixed...that design alone must be expensive to make but its probably the one most likely to get you home in a vehicle designed as fit for it's purpose.

Their lorry division Hino is well respected too, simple and tough if it aint broke don't fix it engineering.

My main criticism of Toyota is that their european cars are frankly boring compared with what the rest of the world gets, and they've beaten too many of their models with the ugly stick, including the fronts of the latest Lexus', WTF were they thinking...

i offer this, have a paper bag handy...who the fuck passed that bling grill and front skirt as fit for human consumption, ok beauty is the eye etc but it looks like a grill you'd find on ebay made in some chinese sweat shop, compare with previous LS460 which is reservedly handsome, classy even

surely their clothes will be smaller, and so will their suitcases and so they won't need that much room anyway?
