Turbo swede. Making the engine go BOOM!

Well I have been getting a bit bored with this focus as my daily whip.

It's been ace to be honest, fast, great handling, comfy and never put a foot wrong.

So obviously I wanted to get rid.

I wanted that p6 that was on retro rides tried to get a viewing but don't know if it sold or what not, but couldn't get hold of him.

Then that audi 100 that has been in practical classics got my juices flowing I had rang insurance and was dirt cheap, as defo 1 billion percent going to bid, I even bought a brochure of ebay.

Then a day before the auction ended it was pulled, I got in contact and he said someone had made him a offer he couldn't refuse. Bugger.

So I moped about a bit.

Then on Sunday I was here

Chester zoo I got a email saying "watched item ending soon" I put a bid in of £1050 and won it.

It was bank holiday so insurance was closed so couldn't collect mon. So I spent the day sunbathing in the garden and rolling around the grass with our cat.

So I arranged it for tues night and we set off in our lases boring.

Got there it was getting dark I had a quick blez round the block and seemed alright. So monies were payed and I set off, I did notice the oil was low on the dipstick so I pulled into get some petrol and some oil.

£18.99 for a litre of 5-30. Cheers wankers.

None pez station shot.

It's pretty rapid, 230bhp, seems to fly in 3rd. Just keeps on going. Full heated electric leather, aircon etc. it's meant to have some 7 speaker Super stereo but it's absolutely shit, speakers have gone.

It's in overall good condition, has very good history, having been owned for one fella for ages and was serviced at a Saab specialist.

Last serviced 6k ago, so due one, I am gonna drop the sump and clean it and fit a new pcv kit as these engines are shit and sludge up and kaboom there goes the big ends. It's also got a set of brand new ditch finders on the front, just what you need with over 200bhp through the front wheels.

I mainly bought this car, because I personally think the wheels are bad ass. 3 spoke hammerheads. Shirley that's a good enough reason to buy it.

Well played, that's a lot of car for a bag.  Especially with the Chinese throwing alloys.  Good colour too, nice change from black or resale silver.

^ A vinyl record insert for jukebox records?

Yep. I know it as a 45er jukebox spider, but there might be a proper name for it.

You must be very old.

That looks well smart, I do like a nice Saab turbo, proper flying machines. :)
(Yeah, yeah, I know, my SVM membership has just been rescinded and all egg privileges have been withdrawn.)

Most of the old 45s I've got with adaptors have this style, can't think of an alloy wheel design that matches this one...

Nice!,I briefly considered one of those before getting the Volvo.I like your cat too  :-D

I had an estate a few years ago-cracking big cars and great at covering distance quickly with little fuss.

A bit of a Q-car? Saabs had smart alloys for donkey's years, probably more good ones than anyone else.

Looks like rather newfangled tosh to me. Talk to Chip Foose if you want wheels that look like that.

Knew I'd seen something like this before. Not quite right but close. Also off a Saab.

Hirsch Performance 19" 3-spokes.

Nice purchase. Saab 9-5s are excellent cars :)

My '00 SE estate behaves the same way as yours in 3rd gear; I think it could well be the 185bhp version of the model, as opposed to the 170bhp version :-D

Great buy. I like Saab's a lot. Not as much as fatha hertz though. He has recently upgraded to an "Dame Edna Everage spectacled" Aero which he loves after a long line of Aero's.  He's found a few parts specialists and even a dealer he uses to glean info off so there is still a lot of support out there.

Yeah there a loads of specialists so it's all good and there is actually a official saab parts department running out of a alfa dealer near me. Ordered a full update pcv kit from neo brothers and going to drop the sump next weekend as this weekend I am in Norfolk sunning it up.

Seems a good place to park.

I think it was either a victim of a paint ball attack or maybe Bart Simpson saw it driving round and catapulted it with catapults.

Or maybe hail damage but it has a few small 5p size dents. Not really noticeable. But someone has had a carbon vinyl roof fitted which luckily is also not very noticeable. As I am don't like this sort of thing.

The central locking is on some sort of police baton.

Also fount this behind the seat looks like it's been on a European road trip.

Volvo "Chiron" wheels.

The reason they seem to go so well in third is that they have restricted boost in the lower gears to (try) and tame wheel spin . Third is the first full power gear

I saw this in the advert and thought "somebody is in for a very good time indeed". Well bought.

I's rather have an H.O.T Saab than a T-5, there's something somehow more berserk about them.

You need to join UKSaabs and make friends with Karl. He does a lot of mapping for 9-5's very cheap from memory.

I think Stage 1 takes it from 230 to 280.

Mine's currently off the road but has done 286,000 miles (Yes that is accurate), so there should be plenty of life left in your car.

Cosmic Blue by the way is one of the best colours.

Cheers

Emailed him 80 quid for a remap. Duly booked in.

Report back on how you feel it changes the car  :-D

Enjoy

Don't think it's a huge difference in an aero cos they are pushing the limit for that turbo and down pipe . A lpt goes from 170 to 235 hp and trust me that's noticeable 😄.

A 3 inch down pipe will get you up to about 300hp

Posted

A full mornings work and some afternoons work has resulted in one clean sump and a breather kit fitted.

Bit of pain as the down pipe has to come off and obvs there 623 bolts holding the sump on.

Glad I did it as it was pretty manky in there, new oil and filter as well, so should have nothing to worry about in that dept.

I did have to buy some special red locate that was 18 quid or something daft for the sump.

No pictures as I am a idiot and forgot.

I did take one. The job had gone amazingly well till I put the dipstick back in and snapped the top so it don't stay in place.

Ordered a new one of ebay, they have a daft spring inside which is bleeding strong and god knows why it's needed.

Bugger it was like 20 odd quid as well.

Will put you top of my list for bits.

Just had this remapped. 265bhp/420lbft torque. Makes a nice difference.

Nicely, very nicely.

I do like wheels with rotational symmetry of order three.
