Taff Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 My flash function doesn't work on my F. My main beam worksMy dip beam worksMy indicators both workJust my flash missing. Now, using the most excellent wiring diagrams supplied here, http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/index.htm I have checked how & were the electricity finds its way into my switch and back out to the lights. All the wiring checks out as it should, 12v where you would expect to. Has to be a switch, right?Got hold of a replacement switch, same fault. The vendor sent me a replacement for that one (which he assures me he tested prior to sending) and guess what? Still got the same fault. Two duff switches, 3 including the original one? Has to be a car-side fault, eh?So I went back and checked everything again, and it all still checks out... Any suggestions? The MG forums all had loads of advice until I pointed out that I had done all that and it still doesn’t work, and have since gone quiet!
messerschmitt owner Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 you can strike a match - either to use as full beam or to set it alight ...
vulgalour Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 The problem here is that you want the flash function to work. The real solution is to just pretend like your car doesn't have that function fitted, one day it'll likely start working when you don't want it to.
New POD Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Does the hazard lights work. Usually a dodgy relay. It's probably a LUCAS Unit and therefore shite. (Said the former Lucas Automotive Engineer) Rusty Pelican 1

fred Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 It was made by Rover - in its death rattle days everything attached to it was purchased from poundland
HH-R Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Amazingly I've never had issue with Lucas electrics, all mid 90s to mid 00s stuff.
Noel Tidybeard Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 try turning hazards on & off then make sure the switch is off properly and try indicators then
Uncle Jimmy Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 So your indicators work? Just the dashboard light showing their operation?
PhilA Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Does it have something incredibly stupid like a second power feed that's always on so you can flash the lights but not leave them on without the ignition on? If so, is it alive? Phil
richardmorris Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Relay? No luxuries like flash on the 2cv or fiat, just turn the lights on and off quickly! Actually the fiat will flash but only if the light switch is on. Otherwise I think it'll just be illuminating the area behind the bumper as flashing doesn't pop the headlamps up.
Station Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 There's a red box behind the fuse box. It's like a junction box and this is usually at fault.Or the fuse has gone or it's the stalk.
Taff Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 Does the hazard lights work. Usually a dodgy relay. It's probably a LUCAS Unit and therefore shite. (Said the former Lucas Automotive Engineer) yes mate, everything associated with that switch works fine apart from the MOM flash function try turning hazards on & off then make sure the switch is off properly and try indicators then indicators are fine, mate So your indicators work? Just the dashboard light showing their operation? indicators work ok, as do the dash warning lights mate Does it have something incredibly stupid like a second power feed that's always on so you can flash the lights but not leave them on without the ignition on? If so, is it alive? Phil can't see one on the circuit diagram, nor is there one to the switch Relay? The guy who sold me the two replacement switches said relay but he didn't tell me which one, however... There's a red box behind the fuse box. It's like a junction box and this is usually at fault.Or the fuse has gone or it's the stalk. Cheers, Station, I'll have a fiddle when I get home from work. It can't be fuses's as the lights all work as they should (and bizarrely, the F has fuses per LH & RH side. Of course that makes sense). Cheers, All
Station Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Stalks are the same in all 80's/90's Rovers and Hondas. Every electrical problem I've had with the MGF has always been a very simple fix. Last one was all lights down left side were out, dash lights were out, etc. This was before an MOT, and after taking half the dashboard off, I found it was a single fuse had blown! The electrics are really simple on MGF's and easy to work on.

(Said the former Lucas Automotive Engineer) He (she?) is going on about the headlight flash function where you pull your stalk whilst driving NOT der indicators. writ by former employee of Walton Pier's amusement arcade
