Fiat Doblo 1.9 diesel any good.

Not having any idea on work vans a friend of mine wants to buy a 1.9 diesel Doblo to get himself about for the next year and has seen one that fits the bill.

 

Apparently it has an intermittent glow plug warning light that comes on from time to time but runs ok.

 

Knowing that 12 year old Fiats are viewed as quality shite I wondered if we have to look for anything in particular on one.

 

He was thinking about an old transit connect but I hear that rust is an issue on them and I just wondered also is the 1.9 in the Doblo the good old Peugeot lump which would be a nice bonus.

Well it doesn't look promising from the pic, the one we are looking at is a bit older so I was hoping it was from a time before Diesel engines were Shite lol.

If you note that van has a towbar . Clutches and flywheel can both be due to overloading and driver abuse tbh .

They aren't usually a bad van

I had a red 1.9D for ages and it was flippin brilliant, used to drive it 90 miles a day until I got sick of looking like a low-rent Postman Pat

 

Great van though, I did enjoy rowing it along the lanes

According to internet rumour, the JTD is the best out of the three, the multijet is the CDTI that Vauxhall use.

If its like what they used in the cdti Vectra. The general consensus was that it was a fucking shit engine. Prone to water pumps chucking belts off, egr problems, inlet flap grief then ultimately most likely the fuel pump fucking off.

He missed out on it in the end so I suggested a Nissan Vanette as I found a nice low mileage one for less than a grand but he doesn't want one of those, so it's back to the drawing board.

The 1.9 JTD is a great engine. It's what's in my Brava. I got that with 40k on the clock and I got it to 290k in my nine years of driving it. Serviced it every 12k miles. Brill. It's sat in my lock-up on SORN as it can't face scrapping it...Shite eh...
