Speed Cameras?

Just a quick question for you guys, I passed a speed camera earlier (approaching it/driving towards it) and it flashed (Gatso, not Truvelo as they don't flash and I don't think there are any in Scotland anyway) I'm not certain it was me as other cars were driving past it driving from behind it, past it and away from it, i.e. in the same direction it faces, however I was doing 40mph in a 30mph so I know I at least was speeding, not sure if anyone travelling in the same direction as it was, anyway 2 lanes in either direction, separate by a grass strike between the lanes, no lines on my side of the road, so will I get a ticket, some googling suggests not but a lot of what I found was from years ago, not sure if the rules on cameras flashing and ticketing you for speeding towards them not happening has now changed and they can now do you (its been said a few times without lines on the road a Gatso can't gain a conviction of you for speeding.

Towards them in the opposite lane, No.

There is one near me that goes off all the time because people going the opposite direction set it off, but the markings are on the other lane going the other way.

You'll be fine. it can only get you in one direction.

If it was indeed a Gatso, you should be OK. Check here for more info.

you're doomed

as you were going the other way, your punishment won't be three points and £60 but to spend four weeks in Arnold Clark's motability sales, dealing with the piss stained, smelly old men. As the rest of your punishment you will have to deal with the general public too, as well as the aforementioned salesmen!

Would it make you feel better if I drew a cock on the camera?

There's a Gatso right near my house that's been there at least 10 years, and recently it was joined by a static ANPR camera...

But yes, Gatsos take photos of the back of cars so you should be OK. My mum has an irrational worry that some Gatsos can do both sides of the road???

If you were doing 131mph in a Golf you will be fine. If you were doing 132 though.......Sorry, your'e boned.

I was flashed going towards a GATSO about five years ago, in an SORNed VW Type 3 with no MoT. Nothing coming the other way, I was the only car in sight. I was insured, not that it matters without the other two bits of the equation. Anyway, I was young and stupid, but seemingly the people that review the photos are even stupider since I never heard a peep despite the fact running the plate would have been proof enough of at least a couple of fines and some points.

I heard at the time that sometimes they do a single flash to "wind on" the film when it gets to the end - these aren't digital, so that might be plausible.

In this case, I reckon it'll be the people headed away from it that triggered it - these are fairly oldschool and only work with stuff going away. It doesn't need the lines on the road to operate (unlike Truvelo cameras that have sensors embedded in the road which are often "sealed" with thin white stripes across the carriageway) but the lines are there for correlation - without visible lines in the photo, there should be no prosecution as you've no way of proving how far you've travelled between the two pictures - depends on angle of camera.

Good news - I'm off to Dumfries in about ten minutes, so stand a good chance of getting home early if this it the case!

I'm almost certain a gatso can't do you if you are facing it.

I read up on all this a couple of years ago when similar happened to me... They're quite capable of it, but you won't be ticketed as they're only home office approved for "behind" shots.

I am of course an INTERNET EXPERT, and therefore never wrong

I got flashed by one in Bedforshire some years ago. I was heading towards it but can't remember what type it was. Poxy thing near blinded me. A week or so later the fixed penalty turned up. In my defence I was driving a mk4 Golf so getting 40 in a 30 wasn't too bad.
