A lot of money has gone into the red one, it was perfectly restored and modified. I liked it a lot.

I reckon I can achieve similar* results with a couple of rattle cans and a knackered Landy tarp ;)

I like these a lot. Good work Skattrd...

In the late 1980s an elderly couple up the street were often visited by their son and his family. They had a beige UMM, it was a safari/station wagon version that got a lot of caravan hauling action apparently. At the time I had no idea what it was...

The most recent I've seen in the flesh was at Castle Donnington racing circuit about ten years ago. There was a van version in the middle of the circuit all beaconed up for emergency recovery from the track...

I'm surprised the farmers didn't go for these more, as they are rated to carry over a ton in the back and tow up to 3.5 ton.

Quite a few Lincolnshire farmers went for the Daihatsu Fourtrak as I think that could tow 3.5 ton, but locally I've not seen one of these around here before.

Umm, that's a most excellent Alter-native to a Land Rover. Been reading up on these and was amused by the 1986 facelift having a Momo steering wheel as standard - surely the most misplaced 'sports' item ever

Red with a tan roof does look quite fetching I think.

Don't forget the bonnet flames  :-D .

It would look fantastic if you could match the interior and dash to the seats.

I had this vision of you doing the floor with some Flash and a veilida.

That would probably be more interesting than what I was doing.

I'm late to the party as usual:  many admiration, so Portugal, very excellence.  Top collection thread too.

Are you going for a looksee? It's only an hour or two down the M5 from you

If I can get the shifting for £150or so (that's a squid a mile full and £15 for the toll) I may just buy it blind.

Chris what's the all up weight. You can check the brochures? I guessed almost two tons.

Unladen weight according to paperwork is 1610kg.

I have got a bloke delivering a couple of cars to me in the next week or so that might be interested in quoting as I think that UMM isn't that far from me.

Posted

It's near Axminster I believe and going to Ruardean in the forest.

I have sent my guy a message to see if he will quote for it. He is charging me 650 to bring 2 cars over from France so might be pretty reasonable

Did a new quote on shiply for a Land rover defender 110 as a single quote of £306 is taking the pee. Obviously no-one knows what an UMM is.

Panhard - still keen to hear yours.

It being a non-runner won't help, Shipley quotes can take a day or two before they come though.

my experience of people driving a car to you is they charge the same as if it was on a trailer, then hand you a receipt for fuel, expecting you to cough up for that too. It's not often much cheaper than getting it towed.

Posted

sensible quote received! UMM is sensible price - one car too many on drive but that can be sorted quickly! Awaiting pics.

I've just filled up, just under 30mpg for the run up from Devon, £42 in fuel. That's not too bad, but I was hoping for more on a run, less nobbly tyres would probably improve mpg.

Driving this thing does make me grin.

that's excellent. In the short term I'm going to throw the master cylinder back on and use a spare battery and see how we get on with mine. Just have to sort out the XM and remove it so I have the space for the UMM.

Oh, once it's cleaned out, I'm going to see about a bench seat for the back - thank goodness for Land Rovers and their mucho cheapness!

Most of the lights are now working, 3 new bulbs and one new terminal (front H4 light) so far. The only one currently not working is the osr position light, that appears to be a wiring issue, I'll start trying to trace that next week as I've got family stuff to do most of this weekend.

The MOT is due at the end of the month so I'll try and get it in for that as soon as the lights are sorted, hopefully next weekend.

Today I managed to get the Umm on the lift at the garage for an MOT survey, the results are not fantastic, but could be much worse.

The main issue is that I need a rear spring ... I have no idea what vehicle Umm springs came from, our current guess is 504 pick-up or Jeep CJ5 - any thoughts on this or suggestions where to try for some? My current plan is to ask http://www.leafspring.co.uk on Monday.

A small amount of welding is also required ... The bed can wait but that will need several patches at some point.

A couple of different lights have now decided to stop working.

The fog light needs re-locating (it's not 100mm away from the brake light)

As things stand it doesn't look like I will doing any off roading at Easter, unless I can come up with a new spring in the next few days :(
