Getting it home

I've been lucky with cars, have not had any mishaps when buying a car and driving it home.

I'm looking at buying this on eBay:

It only runs on LPG, and I think the LPG tank on these is really small. I'd have to somehow plan the fuel ups with the strategic precision of Rommel. It is also in Taunton. Home of four car purchases by me in one year. How is this possible, someone is having a laugh here, and this is the reason I don't want to go for it.

I picked up an Astra from Stevenage in 2004. The car was 900, so I took 1000 out, booked my ticket and headed down there.

I arrived, bought the car, then set off to the petrol station. It was then with an empty petrol tank I realised I'd left my bank card at home, and I had no money.

While pondering my actions at the cash machine with no money withdrawn from it, a young student girl asked me to help her down some steps as she was laddered. Halfway down I considered mugging her for about 20 quid just to get me closer to home. The seller wouldn't answer the phone as who answers the phone to a buyer 20 minutes after selling a car?

Fortunately, I found a credit card in my wallet which was due to expire on that very day.

take a sleeping bag so if it does go wrong you can get your head down in the back of it

There's a free Android application called Fill LPG, which tells you where your nearest LPG station is and how much they charge. It was kept pretty up to date when I was using it up until a year ago but it's worth bearing in mind that up to 50% of LPG stations are out of action at any given time due to broken equipment or empty tanks. It's not a big seller so a lot of them don't seem too worried about keeping the supply going.

I am not clued up on those vans but can you not take an a new fuel pump with you and fit it so it runs on petrol too? Or fit it tempory to make it simple?
