garbaldy Posted March 5, 2016 Author Posted March 5, 2016 Well strange as In unexpected,I popped round to put some flowgo in Sierra and while inside paying I noticed a cheeky old bloke taking a real good look at it, cheeky as in he was actually sitting in it prettending to drive, After a good ten or so minutes chat the forecourt tannoy asked us to gtf, the chap suggested we move to the car park so we did, to cut a long story short hes offered me his xr4x4 as he couldnt afford to run it on his pension so stuck it in the garage 4 years ago eddyramrod, DVee8, For Fiats Sake and 3 others 6
garbaldy Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 So I went to look at an xr 4x4 but what's this then and here's me strictly telling myself I didn't like silver cars but I quite like this one rust and all, at least it can keep the sierra company for a while. anyhoo back to the cars needing work Cavcraft and Bucketeer 2
garbaldy Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 After car collecting yet again I decided to relax a bit and have a look and see if I can fit the injector seals in the UFO, I removed the fuel lines and the return pipes, For a week now I have been spraying WD40 around the injectors in the hope it would seep down and aid removal unfortunately I was wrong, I wiggled and jiggled for a few minutes then pulled out the adjustable spanner and gingerly gripped the injector and gently started to twist back and forth but could not see any movement, a little more jiggling with a bit more pressure and it let out a ting sound, hmm what the fook was that. garbaldy Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 I gave up with the UFO and started back on the corsa, I removed the bottom half of the chain and all the chain guides to fit the new cam chain cover gasket. New gasket in place and due to the state of the tensioner I also fitted a new one. a new water pump gasket since some expert mechanic had fitted the water pump with four tubes of mastic or maybe it was decorators caulk they certainly used enough of the bloody stuff, then it was a simple job of bolting the water pump back on, After a small period of time the engine was back together. While I was bolting it all together I had the old shitty oil dripping into a catch can to try and drain every last drop, I stuck in some fresh Castrol gtx and filter then filled the rad with coolant and she fired up and purred like the old wheel nuts in a hub cap prank. Then I moved onto the wishbone bush so jacked it up removed wheel and all the bolts came of really easy, I cant believe how bad the bush was it was doing no bushy type things at all, at least I didn't have to get the press out. here it is sitting in the hole but in reality it was in many bits, new one tapped in with my old friend mc hammer. all I need now is two tyres and for sale it will be. garbaldy Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 The misses has just noted that ive got to many cars and that's just the 9 she knows about but in truth I now have 19 cars and 4 bikes so I either have to find more storage space or start a sale, yup as you may have guessed ive offered on yet another car. garbaldy Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 hbol for spaceship says dont turn injectors it also says they are coded to cylinder! ...they may be difficult to remove ...injector puller might not work ...may need to take head off!! I have learnt that the hard way although I wasn't trying to turn it right out just break the carbon free, I wasn't meant to break the injector though, shit happens I suppose, I certainly will not be removing the head I will break it before it comes to that, it is standing me at a grand so I'm pretty sure I wont loose to much on it. ruffgeezer Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I think we've run them without the injector clamp nuts off until the engine eventually spits the injector free. For Fiats Sake 1
fatharris Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 We had one lad try and change injector seals on his sizzler UFO, fail, rebuild it, then it simply wouldn't start, regardless of bleeding technique. Good luck, I can forsee a rant about it in the short future!
garbaldy Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 I think we've run them without the injector clamp nuts off until the engine eventually spits the injector free.Yes I was going to try that but got engrossed in my inner caveman wielding tools mode and fucked up. Jim Bell and hauserplenty 2

garbaldy Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 This fine chariot has mot right up to April fools day and it starts when it can be bothered, I may give it a service and see if it will start as I recon its struggling to get fuel, And here was me thinking the oil was meant to be on the inside It will start but cuts out after a minute or two and less if its revved up, I think it will be a breaker though as its suffering the typical beemer rust. garbaldy Posted March 8, 2016 Author Posted March 8, 2016 Just curious, where is it rusty? both wings and the bottom of the sills, I just think by the time the brakes are sorted (handbrake seized) engine looked at to see why it has the starting problem its probably not going to be worth it, but I shall have a look when I get some time, it wont be this weekend as it bike show time.
scruff Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 What was the XR4x4 like then?. Yes, need XR4x4 contentz Great thread Garbaldy

The handbrake shoes are mounted on some wanky thin tin plate, just wear all the shit from the road gets thrown up I seem to recall on these. I note the usual oil leak on this one too, the 4 cylinders seemed worse than the 6s.
garbaldy Posted March 12, 2016 Author Posted March 12, 2016 What was the XR4x4 like then?. I was ment to be going to see it today but the old fuddy duddy forgot it was his grandsons wedding,Hes not quite as fuddy as me though as I've just realised the lancer is out of Mot and has been all week and my hippo is due tommorow, also the insurance is due on it to so expensive week ahead. Mr cav it is Indead rusty back-plates and the back calipers are also binding. trigger 1

garbaldy Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 I finally got to see this 4bee4 and its not for me, doors frilly bonnet edge frilly damage to front wing and slam panel, engine was sweet though. Its probably a good thing as the car count is getting a bit out of hand, with that above statement in mind I shall confess to another moment of phone madness with the agreed purchase of another car, pics to follow when I get to collect it.
garbaldy Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 I got a chance to play with the spanners today so attacked this ufo as the corsa is ready for sale after I clocked up 50 trouble free miles in it, I stuck a jubilee clamp round the broken injector and it nipped the cracked nut up so I guessed ive got nowt to loose and fired the engine, since it started and ran I removed the injector clamp and ran the engine up to full temp, this did nowt so I gently prised and tapped the injector while the engine ran and not a single sign of any movement, I stopped the engine and removed all pipework and while taking a call from a chap who was trying to sell me his car I was fiddling with the pry bar and the injector moved a tiny bit, I dare say I was that excited I agreed to buy the guys car, about 30 minutes wiggling later I managed to remove it, it took another 15 mins to clean the hole out too. I cleaned all the carbon of the injector and it slips in and out the hole with ease, a quick coating of PC grease and I bolted it all together. Then I stuck it all back together and took it for a hurl round the block, After a successful test drive and no more fluffing injector I'm now wondering whether to just leave the other three, I'm still contemplating buying a new injector to replace the one I cracked the nut on. Split_Pin Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 No matter how long I spend on here, an excellent thread which has existed for ages but that I have never seen, always turns up! What's the craic with the S40? I've always liked look of the pre 2000 examples.
garbaldy Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 The s40 is getting broken for spares then scrapped as its needing to much work. corsa has finally found a new home third time lucky, yes you read that right third time, no wonder people scrap cars. Honda is up for sale now after being cleaned not quite sure on value as the prices for them are all over the place. The car I agreed to buy while in happy injector came out mode was not quite as described but since I had said I would take it I loaded it up and strapped it down ready for the haul back to the yard. every panel has at least one dent in it and the mint interior has a hole right in the centre of the drivers seat, not one of my better purchases but hey ho you win some you loose some.
garbaldy Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 After the skip run I shuffled round to the yard and had an inspection of the mongdeo, both front springs snapped and one strut wet with oil, front brakes pretty rusty with one binding, brake pipes look a bit crap and will fail the testers scrutiny, rear exhaust section blowing badly and more dodgy looking brake pipes, The engine sounds sweet and doesn't smoke and is the tooleater duratec, I gave up then and decided its a breaker, I guess buying blind will occasionally shoot you on the foot.
Jim Bell Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I love real threads where things get fixed. How painfully expensive is the civic going to be?
garbaldy Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 I love real threads where things get fixed. How painfully expensive is the civic going to be? I stuffed it on bumbtree and believe it or not after two days it sold tonight for full asking price with no quibbles, I must have priced it to cheep. Lacquer Peel 1

garbaldy Posted June 9, 2016 Author Posted June 9, 2016 Another one to add to the pile which has a bit of rust round the arches wings sills and underside it is an mot failure, interior is very clean and tidy. engine starts and runs very well. millage is quite low for its age. here's the fail sheet so now its decision time.
garbaldy Posted June 9, 2016 Author Posted June 9, 2016 I decided to buy myself a new bike so I did some research on my chosen bike and hunted one down and went to view it, the seller was motivated as his wife's car had laid down and he had to replace it for her meaning he had to part with one of his bikes. I came home with this HGF foosty, 70k miles and it drove home no problem although the oil cap is full of sludge and he had fitted steel seal to try and nurse a few weeks more out of it. not sure if its worth doing the head gasket as I think these engines are all alloy, there could be trouble ahead. oh and I like the bike too.
