Pillock Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I like those Civivivics. Still regret not buying one nearly new, it had Velour!
Bear Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Triangle exhaust trim I believe, there's a conventional exhaust behind it. The Corsa bodges are horrific, I thought I was a bodger but at least I don't make a living out of it. It's fairly standard in the borders. Why I only work on my own cars, this kind of shit was rife.
garbaldy Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 A little update on the UFO and the pics are the as bought uncut version.I quite like the way it looks like it has full width lights front and back and they are actually amazingly bright, I'm assuming some fancy from another planet bulbs or something. The interior follows on the spaceship vibe with the flight deck wrapping around you and complete with 3d look. The arse looks quite funky with the triangular thrusters which I thought where dummies but what's this hiding in here, FG was right. a strange design to divert a small amount of smoke through smaller off takes through the bumper. Anyway enough about UFOs as I really have no idea why I bought it or even what I'm going to do with it, but as you have probably guessed by now that's the running theme with most of my purchases, AnthonyG and Bucketeer 2
garbaldy Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 So friday night quick scran of the tea then away to collect a friend for the next collection, we met up in Berwick and filled up, shock horror dizzle is 96 ppl now and cheeper than pez at 98 ppl.A quick text to seller dood and we where on our way,The steed of choice tonight was the misterbishi lancer and after owning it for a year and a half it took a mate to set the sat nav which took us straight to the sellers door, I iz not clued up on shat nav.we arrived just as WW was walking out his garden gate a quick hello and some small talk before he insisted on a spin round the block to make sure I was happy with the auld gal, of course that wasn't necessary as I was having it anyway, I don't like to go home empty handed. After some shite chatting some paper was swapped and our farewell's where made. after years of not driving sierras I was transformed back 20 years and realised nowt has changed apart from dancing gauges I cant remember that. Now I'm not sure what's going on as I knew the fuel gauge was temperamental but the temp gauge dances about a bit too, this was all the way home on a cool night with the heater blowing toasty so the temp definitely wasn't altering much. the homeward journey was going extremely well and we where making great time until the old girl started to miss, the miss slowly got worse and I pulled into a layby to check and she died and wouldn't restart, I had visions of finishing this collection by rope, after knocking on the trucks door the driver luckily for me had a tin of wd40 we where all standing looking under the bonnet when the fuzz pulled up asking what's going on, after much chatting about old fords I now have a truckers number who wants to buy it, After what seemed like hours we where on our way yet again and approaching my hiding place the sound of WW words of fill it when it hits 200 miles where stuck in my head after glancing at this. Thank god we where nearly hame.It was too late to be posting this last night so a shower and bed and sweet dreams.I woke this morning and while waiting for the kettle to boil glanced out of the window and no sierra thank fook for that I had dreamt the whole evening and the story above is made up, after brekkie I tootled of to check I wasn't dreaming and guess what.nope I own a sierra again.after spending a bit of time checking the auld gal over to see just what I had bought its actually a pretty good car, the only bad bits are the slight ripple on the quarter and a wee bit rust next to the mud flaps,I have no idea why I even bought it but that's just me,big thanks to WW for an excellent easy honest transaction A+ would buy from again, thanks bud egg, DodgyBastard, Shep Shepherd and 4 others 7
garbaldy Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 What happened to the UFO? Its still sitting in my garden awaiting a good clean and check over as it has a slight fluffing noise, I'm going to join CBA to try and help me with my problem.
trigger Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I don't know why the temperature gauge had gone up, we fitted a new thermostat and rad fan switch as it wasn't cutting in when I first dragged it out of the barn. Check the pipes coming from the carb as one of them kept popping off causing air into the carb and making it run shit, I did cable tie it back on but it could have come off again.
Jim Bell Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Glad you made it back safe man. And sorry it wasn't smooth sailing. I think I'm gonna give up selling cars after the 406 travesty and Sierra aversion to atmospheric moisture. The outward bound cars have not been behaving well lately. That Unclean Festering Object looks lovely. I'll have a fancy swanky modern space invader one day. Probably literally for one day. Keep up the good threading!
garbaldy Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 Sorry I didn't explain that well.in the two pics you can clearly see the temp up and down and the fuel gauge also up and down, now the comedy bit is it happens as you drive, you can clearly see the temp going up and down and I firmly believe the clocks could be at fault here because no way the engine temp cam fluctuate so quickly,It's not a major problem im sure of that,I'm also 100% sure WW hit the nail on the head with the water on dissy leads issue as it was raining half the way home, As for plain sailing the collection was a doddle compared to some I've had. I would do it again tommorow but with more chatting time. trigger 1
djimbob Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 All cars should look like spaceships in this day and age, yet only XM's and civics manage it, poor show all round! really enjoy your adventures baldgaz, keep 'em coming
Noel Tidybeard Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 A little update on the UFO and the pics are the as bought uncut version.I quite like the way it looks like it has full width lights front and back and they are actually amazingly bright, I'm assuming some fancy from another planet bulbs or something.as its got headlight washers one must asume its got factory hids- and yes they are amazeballs
Bucketeer Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Another excellent thread I had somehow previously missed. I love how every purchase is followed by a combination of the following words . . . I have no idea why I even bought it Dave_Q and Jim Bell 2
garbaldy Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Today was a gid tinker day, first up I had to remove the front seat from the lancer as the milk the misses spilt last week was starting to stink so I had to break out the vax and wash the carpet, while this was drying I fitted a set of brake pads to a mates freelander and after supping coffee and chatting for a while it was onto the next job investigate the UFOs fluffing noise, I removed the engine cover and this didn't look good. It appears to have been fitted with a very rare two tone rocker cover. Ah ha that's not a fancy two tone rocker cover at all its bloody rock hard gunge from a leaking injector, just how long would that have to be leaking to form inches of glued on sludge, I shall call BP and see if its any use to them. I set to with brake cleaner didn't work, alloy wheel cleaner didn't work, thinners didn't work, neat RTF didn't work, so I broke out the small screwdriver and picked away and pressure washed it out until this was the result, Since I had the washer out I though I would clean the spaceship and I have to say it scrubs up ok, I still had an hour or so playtime so I had a tinker with my marders before tea. eddyramrod Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I don't know whether to love or hate those Hondas. As blobs go they are relatively stylish, and I think they must be quite strong too. The one that killed my MR2 looks like it hit nothing more than a snow flurry. Ah, but there's the rub, simmering resentment for the loss of my lovely little sportscar...
MarvinsMom Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 i don't care for them hondas one bit. just don't like them dunno why, they just do nothing for me, but the sierra, well as time goes by the more and more attractive they get. plus i seem to remember that the temperature gauge did rise and all on mine as and when the electric rad fan came on and went off. but as i last owned one 15 odd years ago i may, or may not be typing bollocks!
garbaldy Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 plus i seem to remember that the temperature gauge did rise and all on mine as and when the electric rad fan came on and went off. Yes that is normal but this one visibly rises and falls while watching it while driving along, no electric fan needed, it goes from the bottom of the R to the top of the O and back far to quickly to be the engine heating and cooling.
MarvinsMom Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 so there is another haunted motor on the forum, or, and more likely it has a gauge that tells lies.......
garbaldy Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 so there is another haunted motor on the forum, or, and more likely it has a gauge that tells lies....... I like the first theory better.
MarvinsMom Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 i'm wondering if these have a temp sender probe thing in the thermostat housing, i had a maestro that the gauge used to tell lies on, and giving the sender a quick clean improved things no end. i have also done a similar thing on the mini with the same result.
garbaldy Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 I'm pretty sure trigger replaced all parts when he recomissioned it. I'm also sure its nothing to worry about at all just old age creeping in trigger 1
MarvinsMom Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 its a sweet old motor, even if i remain to be convinced of the improvement of the CVH over a Pinto, but it is the same model year as the 1800 lx that i had. mine was a fab car, and i still regret selling it!!
garbaldy Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 Well it's Friday night and time for another collection, this time it was definitely the woos method as no t&t and to darn cauld anyway,Another quick wolf down tea and a quick hop over the border yet again to collect this. I shall take some better pics when the large orangey yellow thing wakes up. Saturday is gonna be a busy day as the postie decided to leave me some pressies for my cars. Bucketeer and Jim Bell 2
garbaldy Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 The sun is shinning for a change so a couple of pics of last night's purchase before I head of for collection two this weekend. It has been of the road for 18 months according to the seller,Only 24k as well so not that bad for a 99.I haven't heard it run but the seller asured me it was fine when he parked it up, come to think of it I've heard that saying before, I expect if it does run it will be noisy, what gives you that idea I hear you think.PO bodged that's what. Jim Bell 1
AnthonyG Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Ha ha that is a proper old school bodge, the sort of thing our grandfathers were doing with 1951 Spam tins. I like the UFO, I remember sitting in the dealers and the dash did some fancy lighting up welcome dance when you turned it on (on purpose, like a 90's Hi Fi, rather than an Laguna 2 where it has all gone wrong) thought 'that's really flash, but will piss me right off after about the third day of ownership'.
For Fiats Sake Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I test drove a UFO and a CRZ, preferred the UFO but in the end bought a new Panda instead as faster cars make me drive faster than I should, plus my line manager at the branch I moved to had one - tosser.
fordperv Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Nice simple engines on these bandits, quality bodge on that exhaust
garbaldy Posted March 5, 2016 Author Posted March 5, 2016 I may be putting the Sierra back on the market due to strange encouter, will confirm after viewing. Bandit battery charged and it only started straight up.Plus in a stupid moment two more tin boxes added to collection
