Shite of the future - What are you looking forward to?

Insignia/Corsa D becoming cheap enough to suit my budget.

Won't be long now - fixable Cat C stuff is down to 1500 quid. Some even have a proper handbrake too. 1.8i Pez with the later EEEEEK! O'Tech would be the sensible shite choice.

I can see in 15 years someone hauling a Insignia 1.4 design out of a bush, and spending £1000'd restoring it as its one of only 3 left on the road...

I'd be surprised if many of the diesel variants of cars were on the road. If used as intended they would be intergalactic by the time they are at shite status. Those that haven't would probably be thrown away at the first sign of (delete as appropriate) injector/dmf/turbo/DPF/EGR failure...

Dacia's they will be great in 8-10 years, will be worth about £500 and will give us something to weld up  :-D

The posher 7 grand and up ones can be got under 5

These.

No longer sold here, so already plummeting in value. Give it ten years, and these will be worth about as much as a signed VHS of The Best of Jim'll Fix It.

On the plus side, if you stand on your head and look through the wrong end of a pair of binoculars, whilst pissed, it looks a bit like an Aston.

Couple that with Renault's legendary* reliability, and WCPGW? Diseasel with DMF please!

I really dislike these touch screens controlling basic stuff in the car for another reason; you've got to look at it to use it. With a knob you can just grab it without looking and twiddle it up and down until you're satisfied. Sadly the manufacturers don't give a toss if it works in 10-15 years time.

These will be interesting to watch the depreciation of seeing as they are so cheap new. I reckon that when they're all about 10 years old they'll be like the Perodua Kelisa, dealers will get one owner examples with hardly any miles and will try to sell them for £2,500 while all the ones with normal use will be under £1,000.

Edit: I wonder if this could be bodged  fixed to Autoshite quality? '14 plate car for under 3 grand?

That Dacia has taken some hit, looks like the sill is bent to so i would guess it would take some £££ to sort it out. Must have happened a while back as the sill is rusting already.

I have an unhealthy liking for the basic Sandero, grey bumpers and all, I can see myself running one in 10 years time.

Posted

At the end of the day a touch screen is still just a thing that's makes something turn on and off. When they are all broken and no chance of being fixed I'm sure an analogue set of switches could be made. Might look a bit shit but better than nothing

Probably via a computer though...

I could definitely see myself running a Dacia Sandero when they depreciate to 500 quid. So far they haven't become the modern lada riva like everyone thought they would and lose all their value the second they're driven off the forecourt.

In all honesty? Being grown up enough with enough money to buy a Subaru Legacy diesel.

What took them so long to make a diesel engine for their cars? The fuel economy is literally the only thing that puts me off MK1 and MK2 Legacy's. If there was diesel variants of the olthose I'd probably own one.

Their insistence on creating a flat-4 diesel from scratch, plus disinterest in diesel cars in their main market, North America.

I don't honestly think diesels these days will get the chance to suffer from old age or intergalactic mileage issues. It'll be legislation and more EU idiotic policy's that will see them off! Probably in this backward country imposed via another tax payer funded scrappage scheme!

Seriously though, if I were to go for 'future shite' it would be a a Ford Crown Vic or V8 Mustang (will these technically be shite though?).

My predictions for Premium* Futureshite

Something that should have sold better than it did: Vauxhall Signum.

Something that has sold as well as could be expected: Suzuki Kizashi

The Perodua Myvi, which appears to be the same car as the last Charade, and the 1-of-1000 imported to the UK Suburu Justys. Actually any Daihatsu just before they pulled the plug on the UK.... see also SAAB 9sig5

Any Renault post 2005, but agreed mostly on the Aston-esque Laguna. I'd definitely roll (coast to a halt....) in one of them.

What I'm really hoping for, like someone else, is for a 159 estate in black as above. But if I'm living in the centre of town and don't touch a motorway or dual carriageway, then the Suzuki Swift is a good bet i reckon due to go-kart ness and relative availability

Brave brave man.

Or perhaps you are Lord Rothschild AICMFP

The Rothschilds owned a country estate near where I grew up.   It was an Austin 3 Litre Crayford.   Class.....

MG6's have started to wink at me, you can already buy 61 plate models with 30000 miles for £6500 which come fully loaded, I'll give it another couple of years before they are sub £1000.

A few months before Scooby-Doo announced diesels I was sniffing around a Forester in a showroom in Zagreb (2.5 I think, with zyclon B, I actually had the money then). I got talking to the pusher salesman and asked him why no diesel? "Because it's not in their plan". I didn't buy it, mainly because I thought it looked a bit too much like a RAV4 (and now I have one!) and the dealership is now a freezer food shop.

As far as moderns go the XF is about it for me, I think they are awesome.

I believe those DMFs last forever if used by people who actually know how to drive.

Clutchless shifting FTW

Posted

The recommendation seems to be to change the DMF when you do a clutch, in the same way as you change a water pump when you do a cam belt.

Mind you, the book time for a clutch change for my HDi is 10 hours...

I want a 406 Coupe with a diesel engine. Based on a popular taxi so I'd guess they're pretty dependable & easy to run, good fuel economy and that Bertone Pininfarina styling.

Interior's not bad either

As well all know, Volvos are shite and sub-full fat Volvos are bargain shite, so I'm putting in an early booking on a V60 T6 with 300hp and AWD

Failing that then whom amongst us will be first to proudly state that they own a Ssangyong Rodius; winner of the coveted 'Were you fucking blind when you penned that?' award 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Subaru dealer loans a Diesel Legacy whilst my petrol Legacy is serviced.

It is not good, it really isn't, even at a few thousand miles.

A rubbish drive compared to the petrol, and all for 44mpg v. 34mpg for my two litre petrol.

A million taxi drivers can be wrong! I still see them here occasionally (they all got too old to licence in the UK). Oh, in case you're not winding me up, it's Pininfarina.

For cheap motoring with less to go wrong the tradition if fiestas will probably continue. Cheap parts easily available, easy to repair...

Hows that?

it's Pininfarina.

Ach it's just Italians twiddling pens on paper so it's close enough.
